The bridge emphasizes the pressure to conform to societal expectations and be like everybody else, leading to a feeling of being trapped in the rat race. Thus, the song describes the inner turmoil of feeling like a no-one and longing for a life that could have been, but never was. Overall, "Heavyweight Champion of the World" could be seen as a reminder to follow your dreams and not to get bogged down in routine and societal pressure.
