Love this vid, definitely something I'm more conscious of when shopping. Can you please make a vid of how you take care of your clothes for longevity? TY!
Thank you ❤ I’ve been putting this video off for a bit because I feel like I don’t do anything special at all (with the exception of knitwear) but I’ll be putting something together soon :)
Very thoughtful and appropriate editing. Just enough of your own image and highlighting of the items or details you are talking about. 100 times better than some influencer’s videos where we have to see so much of their own face and have to pay attention to how bad their teeth look lol Keep it up. Great job!
Helen, purple shimmer looks amazing on you! ❤
I’m a bit hooked on Sezane’s Betty cardigans, they keep making them in such pretty new colors that I can’t resist “just one more”. The 100% Merino wool knit is super comfortable to wear, it’s warm, but airy, and not nearly as itchy as most woolies (I have to wear an underlayer with any woolie, even cashmere, because of hypersensitive skin). I also love their Paula Babies (block-heel Mary Jane sling-backs), the most comfy “nice leather shoes” ever. I’m not really a sneaker fan, the approximately 2-inch heel on these shoes is much more flattering to my short frame, and they can be worn on any occasion, from a casual jeans day to a party. One thing we learned from the elegant French decades ago, here in San Francisco, is to always wear nice genuine leather footwear, not sneakers or flip-flops. Of course, even the French wear them now, in back then they didn’t approve of jeans, either. In those days, we could tell who the visitors were by their footwear, it was the thing to dress up a bit more “for the city”. My Mom even wore a hat and gloves, under protest, when I was a child in the early 60s, for going to The City, she hated both! The casualization of dressing and the huge decrease in quality are the biggest changes I’ve seen in 50 years of styling myself, the other fashion aspects and details cycle in and out.
A fresh idea to find the source of a certain trend and buy from the companies who make it the best. I will surely keep this in mind. I so agree with a high quality coat made with natural fiber, light and warm and nice to touch. I have a long coat made with wool and cashmere , not lined, very light, well fitted. So nice to wear it in the mild winter with dresses and skirts underneath.
I always love companies who have been around for ages and work to perfect the item that they're good at :) Thank you so much for watching xx
your videos are super informative and helpful! keep it up! also that purple colour looks so good on you!
I love your videos and this was so informative especially garment instruction and materials. I realize you are right to mention practicality of design plus fibre is needed to be considered not just quality of fibres
Great video, Helen-excellent tips. I’m inspired by your purple top white pants combo.
Loved your Vlog. It's so easy to overlook quality when you see a sale item, especially if you shop online. So it's good to know which store excels on which things. I do avoid trend pieces as I think they tend to be cheaply made. Obviously not always true. Sorry to hear about the Cos bag, how disappointing for your Mum😔 Loved all the detail you put in to everything. I appreciate your insights and tips so much. Tracy x
I love wool, linen, and cotton. The quality varies though. I bought some printed calico fat quarters (1/4 piece from a yard of fabric). The thread count is not good and easily torn from sewing needles (i use blunt tip). They are worse than the yards of muslin I bought as bag liners. Some merino the worst is not done well. The yarn would break to create holes (not moth eaten). I have thrifted wool pieces no matter how i wear and wash them, they don’t budge. I love cotton or silk velvet and cotton corduroy but it gets very hard to find good quality fabric. Most velvet and corduroy today are synthetic.
I completely agree, there are HUGE differences between high and low quality even within the same fibres. I do love it when I find something that is sturdy and won't budge :)
Love your videos! They are so helpful :)
I'm so glad, thank you! :)
This was such a good video! Thank you, Helen. ❤
Your advice and insight are so helpful. Can't believe I've heard these things the first time. You deserve so many more followers, this is genuinely so well crafted. :)
So glad I could share something helpful with you ❤ thank you so much 🥰
Thank you!
Excellent video❤
Thank you very much! xx
Hi Helen, do you have any recommendations for denim jacket? Great video! x
This was very helpful! sometimes I don’t pay much attention to the details :)
I’m always guilty too :) I have just about the worst attention to detail but getting better 🥰❤️
🫰I usually screenshot your outfits because they r so nice and great combo! I think u r similar to Lydia Tomlinson! 😉
The shirts look really high quality, sinply because the pattern of the pocket blends into the fabric. Regarding wool I personally would recommend a wool mix, merino is soft but has rather short fibers and is prone to pill compared to longer fibers like Mohair or cashmere. Still merino is a superior choice compared to synthetic fibers.
Can you link the Maroon tshirt you talk about? I like it’s thick collar at 11:10
I’d love to know where you got that necklace! 😍 Please share. 🙏🏻 Thanks for another wonderful video.
Thank you! :) The opal is an ethiopian opal from Etsy bit.ly/4br4GYE - I would recommend doing a little research into Ethiopian opals as they are very delicate and can turn yellow/dull without the proper care (so won't work for every lifestyle). The chain is antique from Lilicoco on Etsy.
What Tshirt are you wearing at 3:28 underneath the plaid shirt? I love it as a layering piece!
I’m not sure if you mentioned the brand name of the nylon hooded long black coat, but I would love to know.
has anyone ever machine washed your Betty cardigan? It seems durable i wonder if i can wash it inside out in the net bag under delicate program with cold water?
Hi Helen, did you keep the gray coat from & other stories? I bought the same item and am wondering if I should keep it. I love the look and quality but as you mentioned in this video, it's a little heavy to carry around. Just want to hear your thoughts!
I didn't keep it. I would have loved to but couldn't justify another neutral coat as my coat wardrobe is getting to be excessive. I thought the quality of the wool was really lovely, it had amazing thickness but I guess the biggest downside would be that it is heavier than I like (in weight and warmth). My Australian climate probably wouldn't have worked too well with thick wool.
@@DailyHelenJ Thank you for the reply! It's quite cold up here and it indeed is a great coat to keep me warm:)
I'd return it if it feels too heavy for you.
Hi! I saw you style your beautiful Carel shoes in this video, and I remember you mentioning in a previous video that you have wider feet. Can I ask if the Carel shoes are comfortable width-wise? From online photos they look like they would be narrow. I have wider feet as well and love the look of them but I’m afraid to buy them 😅
I feel they are medium width. However it seems to still fit me comfortably and I haven’t had any squishing/discomfort on the sides. Something to note is that I don’t wear these shoes for errands or daily wear. They’re more of an occasion shoe for me so that might be why.
@@DailyHelenJ thanks for the insight, very helpful!
