my grandpa worked at warner brothers from 1925-1967 told many stories of the stars he said that pernell roberts was a class act very kind and never looked down on any cast are crew always said thank you are excuse me, but then grandpa though a bit gruff at times was class act himself he and grandma lived around the corner from the studio at 239 n cordova in burbank, ray elliott was his name miss ya grandpa
I knew Hoyt for decades, since I was just a kid, toured the country and sang backup vocals with him in L.A. and on the road, and sang on a couple of his albums... and yet I never realized he'd done any episodes of Bonanza or had sung with Pernell Roberts. Hoyt was quite an interesting man with a stupendous voice and singing style, tremendous ability as a songwriter, and many demons to wrestle. Sadly, he never took good care of his health and left us too soon. RIP, big bro.
This episode is always a sad episode for me. Because this was the last episode that focused on Adam and was really the last episode of Bonanza that Pernell Roberts was in. What a fantastic song. Absolutely love it.
Thanks Byrd, I was just getting ready to save and to send this out to everyone, this was the best singing I’ve ever heard in my life I hope you agree . Your friend KATHY
This episode was my favorite, Hoyt was simply fantastic in this show, and Adom just harmonized perfectly, great TV back then, Bonanza was just exciting 😀
I'm 17. I will never have the pleasure of meeting any of these greats and I lose friends on the daily because I love things like this. R.i.p pernell you had the voice of an angel
People are extremely salty when they hear you listen to some old songs. You'd think in a time where morals have been thrown out the window, they wouldn't care what you listen to. I lost my fair share of folks because they found out I listened to old music. I'd say it tells you what they're up to.
@kansasadventure1831 same here. I was even bullied because of it and told to go back to my time period. Like y'all if I could do you think I'd be here listening to you idiots
This is one of my favorite episodes. It was the last full episode Pernell Roberts did. The songs were good, and the duets were memorable. I have the DVD for this episode.
Oh yes Pernell Roberts was so incredibly gifted and even more under appreciated in his acting and his magnificent voice - singing and speaking and his smile those eyes that melt the heart I encourage anyone who hasn't not just to watch the episodes he was in but particularly the ones he sings like The Wooing of Abigail Jones-he could woo me anytime 😍
I had no idea there was music on Bonanza ! Very very cool ! Hoyt Axton was just perfect for this show. And who knew Pernell Robert’s was a good singer!
I had the Pleasure meeting Hoyt Axton in person in the late 80's and He told me the doing the Bonanza Show was his first acting Role, he had gone to acting school in New York, and they flew him out to California for the Western T.V show. He invited me to come out to his Ranch in Colorado, but sadly I never got around doing it. Rest in Peace! Mr. Axton
Why songs like this aint in on the Billboard charts and radio is beyond me. I need to find me some Hoyt Axton albums playing solo without the orchestra playing behind him. Sounds so much better with just him and guitar, and Pernell Roberts singing harmony.
I love how Hoyt acts in the duet every road I see will lead me home. As Pernell sings he listens and patiently waits to imply Oh no I'm serious I will ramble anyway.
Hoyt Axton was my Dad's cousin. Later he wrote " Joy to the World" & "The Pusher". My Grandad's sister wrote Heartbreak Hotel 💔 Mae Boren Axton. Hoyt is usually noticed more for his role in Smokey, Black Stallion and Gremlins 💙🎶🎵💙
4:16 *Hoyt* :Well every road I see, leads away from me. There's not a single one that leads me home.. All the roads keep sayin ," friend, come see what's round the bend.." So is it any wonder that I roam?.. All the places I have been , keep ah-callin me back again.. How down in the pines. I hear the cold wind blow.. My heart keeps tellin me ... footloose and fancy-free, but the road goes by and calls me as it goes.. *Adam* : Well maybe somewhere there's a someone waitin there with a smile , And maybe there'll be someplace I can stop and rest a while .. Cause maybe you weren't mean to be just a rollin stone. And there's a road to travel on that leads you back to home .. *Adam & Hoyt* : Oh but I'll keep travelin on, keep ah-lookin at the dawn. Till I can lay this lonesome body down.. and when that day has come, I never more will roam. And every road I see will lead me home... Well , when that day has come , I never more will roam.. and every road I see will lead me home. RIP Roberts and Hoyt
Jim Morrison sings a version of the first song here at the beginning of 'Runnin' Blue,' originally as a tribute to Otis Redding, who died shortly before recording. The song is (AFAIK) first attributed to the blue singer Lead Belly - the song is called "Poor Howard."
Beautiful! I have never seen Hoyt Axton so young. I just watched a video of him near the end of his days on this plain. So poignant and beautiful. His voice was a deep joy.
Hello fellow Hoyt fans. I agree with pretty much all your comments here, and just wanted to let you know that there ARE those of us still carrying the torch. There is very good music being made, always has been, it's just not typically broadcast on the airwaves any more. You have to do some digging, but it's there. I find it a crying shame that most people don't even know the name "Hoyt Axton" these days, he should by all rights be a legend. I describe him as one of America's best (possibly THE best) virtually unknown singer songwriters. From Voodoo Blues to Della and the Dealer, Joy to the World to the Pusher, Gypsy Moth to Boney Fingers, Daddy walked in Darkness to Never been to Spain, all amazing songs sung by an amazing voice. My personal favorite is Wild Bull Rider. I front a band in Asheville, NC, the Hazy 88's, we do all sorts of music, most RnB or Rock n Roll based, and some originals, and plan to work up a set of Hoyt's music. I really look forward to performing some of his works, paying homage where due, and keeping Hoyt's name alive. Cheers!
I've seen Bonanza since I was a youth. Then more recently on the oldies TV channels. But it wasn't until just a few years ago while watching this episode with Pernell & Hoyt singing by the fire that I became a Big fan. Thanks for putting the singing parts together for this video.
1Bandit455 I believe the Doors band played this song on their Parade album in 1969, and named it Running blue, in honor of the late Otis Reading. I wonder if Axton knew of this.
Hoyt also guest starred on Dukes Of Hazzard, Murder She Wrote, and Sam McKinney as little Sam's Dad on Different Strokes, I dream Of Jeannie, and WKRP in Cincinnati, and other shows. I would often confused him with other country singers.
Living in Australia,I never had the chance to see Hoyt live, Great Singer/Songwriter, His lyrics really hit home many years ago ( Saved My life) Stuff like Snowblind Friend etc, RIP- HOYT. -- Think i should have watched Bonanza when it was on. Thanks for the post. Great medley of tunes
It would have been great if Pernell Roberts and Hoyt Axton would have sing more together. Brisbane ladies, Greenback Dollar and The Balladeer surly would have been cool songs for them together.
Hoyt axton a great phenomenal songwriter and singer, hr wrote a fewer songs for Nashville's finest from Eddy arnold, jim Reeves, pasty Cline, kitty wells and a few rock like rocky bernrtte, Greg Allman, three dog night, others.
my grandpa worked at warner brothers from 1925-1967 told many stories of the stars he said that pernell roberts was a class act very kind and never looked down on any cast are crew always said thank you are excuse me, but then grandpa though a bit gruff at times was class act himself he and grandma lived around the corner from the studio at 239 n cordova in burbank, ray elliott was his name miss ya grandpa
Maybe that's why he got out of Bonanza, Michael Landon was a real diva and brash
That's an amazing story! Do you have any other stories about his time at Warner Bros.?
I knew Hoyt for decades, since I was just a kid, toured the country and sang backup vocals with him in L.A. and on the road, and sang on a couple of his albums... and yet I never realized he'd done any episodes of Bonanza or had sung with Pernell Roberts. We'll never hear these men sing again. The world has lost such great talent.
Thanks from my family!💙🎵🎶💔💯💙 bonnieblue 💙💯
Thanks Byrd, I was just getting ready to save and to send this out to everyone, this was the best singing I’ve ever heard in my life I hope you agree . Your friend KATHY
Thats a sad thought.
We will never hear them sing again in real life however in post’s like yours were able to hear them in videos. Thanks so much.
@4:10, the best one of all, especially when Pernell sings harmony.
beautiful
I loved this episode. I smiled whenever Hoyt sang. Then Pernell started singing and I cried. His voice is so beautiful!
I can understand that exactly. Elvis did not do much for me however these two, yes
This episode was my favorite, Hoyt was simply fantastic in this show, and Adom just harmonized perfectly, great TV back then, Bonanza was just exciting 😀

Love the bit where Pern ell realises he singing about him,l love his smile.
Hoyt axton just seemed like he was a really nice guy. rip
Hoyt Axton was handsome when she was young..
This made such an impression on me on a Sunday afternoon so long ago.
Why songs like this aint in on the Billboard charts and radio is beyond me. I need to find me some Hoyt Axton albums playing solo without the orchestra playing behind him. Sounds so much better with just him and guitar, and Pernell Roberts singing harmony.
This man had a beautiful voice. Could listen to him all day, sang some beautiful songs. Very mellow voice. Sadly another great singer whose passed on
I love how Hoyt acts in the duet every road I see will lead me home. As Pernell sings he listens and patiently waits to imply Oh no I'm serious I will ramble anyway.
this is such a beautiful episode because of the music. I'm 37 years old and I'm a diehard Bonanza fan
my family always watched Bonanza but I sure do not remember Pernell Roberts singing. He is actually quite good.

God bless you and your family for the great music and light that enriched us all.❤
Just found out he wrote Joy To The World but Pusher, too? Wow!
My step mom was related to Hoyt Axton. Small world!

Whooohuaaaaa?!?
Hoyt Axton was in a league of his own. Distinct voice and a great songwriter and always a treat to watch on screen.
“Great big man with a black hat on..” I do believe that made Adam a bit giddy.
I read an article about Pernell and he said he never liked being on Bonanza.
Wow I stumbled on a memory from the past come to life tonight . Love Pernell and Hoyt . Two great folk musicians
Linda voz que tienen
Hoyt Axton great. His character perfect con man. They say I will never settle. Damn good.
Que voces tan maravillosas !! Y que hombres tan guapos ❤ Pernell Robert siempre te recordare 😘
When the vid gets to them both doing Endless road, it just gives me chills. Beautiful!
I TRULY ENJOYED THIS😁
Came back to hear this again!
Brilliant.
No more Adam episodes. This is the most tragical thing to ever happen. Ohhh the void. And he's such a lovely singer. Sniff
Tragical?

Hope Yvette he wrote the song by Steppenwolf called the pusher.
I agree completely. There should be a holiday to spend listening to him
Thanks!
Just realized this is the song the Doors sing at the opening of their song Runnin Blue 💙💙💙
Check out Leadbelly’s poor Howard
I like they just use the instruments shown instead of having a full orchestra come in from nowhere.
Hoyt is great
love the show and love old songs thank for putting them on here
watched Hoyt many times at cosmos seal beach 1966 all ways friendly ..great talent
They're all gone now. Dan in 1972, Ben in 1987, Michael in 1991 and Pernell in 2010. RIP with love 💕. Loved your work!

What a musical episode this must have been with 6:15 of pickin' and singin' just from these clips!
"Adam" sang in several episodes of Bonaza. I can't swear it was always Pernell Roberts singing, but I assume it was.
logic1st did u know the Bonanza cast released a record many moons ago?First LP I ever had.All four had good voices esp Lorne n Pernell.
He was he made records and did musicals. He played the guotar and the horn. He pkayed in the Navy band

Thank you so much for this video its amazing!!!!
Adam podia ter cantado em mais episódios, ele gostava tanto que pena não é ?🍁🍁🍁🍁......
Esse Homem tinha todo de bom cantava bem lindo belo pancoso elegante fico triste por que ele se foi
Jim Morrison added this section to the song "Runnin' Blue" (in the very beginning to the rest of Robby's song)
Early One Morning can also be heard in the episode The Actress. Julia Grant (Patricia Crowley) sings it to Little Joe Cartwright.
