  • A Confucian Confusion 獨立時代 (1994) | directed by Edward Yang deconstructs romantic comedies in this film. I review this Taiwanese film with has recently received a beautiful 4k restoration. Edward Yang is one of the most well-known and significant Taiwanese directors and a director I love dearly, however every one of Edward Yang's films begins in such a way that I find the themes hard to follow, leading me to believe that this will be the Yang film that I finally dislike, however Edward Yang is truly the master of "slow build" cinema and by the end of a Confucian Confusion, I was again astounded to see all the themes of love and life come together in such a way to form another profound message about life and love. This might be the most hopeful and sweet Edward Yang film, watch my review of "A Confucian Confusion" as I discuss these ideas and more.

Yi Yi and The Terrorizers would be the best depending on which day you ask me. Out of the 4 Yang films I’ve seen, Taipei Story is my least favourite but it’s still a very strong film

Confucian confusion is the best. But all of his films are masterpieces.
