Tbh, it's a way different ball. I kicked both, it feels very wierd to kick a NFL ball. Rugby ball is quite heavy but feels kinda natural to kick (played rugby not american football tho).
That Thorburn kick is something else. Old, heavy, wet leather ball, no tee, worse surface than modern stadia, heavy old boots - really amazing.
Watched this amazing kick many times, and yet never really thought of this. Thx for lighting up my view of that great kick again.

Frans Steyn’s kick was by far the best. 66m on the angle. He kicked a 63m penalty for the Cheetahs against the Lions earlier in the year.
