  • The Sakata Festival , one of the three major festivals in the Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture , has been held for the first time in three years. The Sakata Festival has a history of more than 400 years as an annual festival of Hie Shrine. Due to the influence of the new corona , a parade that was canceled last year was held for the first time in three years.
The highlight is the procession of festival floats held during the regular festival on May 20. Above all, the four giant lions with a length and width of 2 meters and a body of 10 meters is incredible. The Lion Pakkun is popular where the large lion bites children in its mouth with the wish for their sound health but due to corona virus safety measures the lion pakkun is prohibited this time.
