- i love dirty feminist propaganda
description so this video is more searchable: in this video, i read and review cho nam joo's "kim jiyoung, born 1982" (82년생 김지영) which was read by irene of red velvet and got her labeled as a feminist, trashed by male fans, and had her photocards infamously burned! after the mini book vlog of the 2 days i spent reading, at the end, i come back and give u a little review, talk about how i liked the book, if it really is all photocard burning, burn-a-witch-at-the-stake worthy and what irene reading it possibly means.

It's the double standards for me
When Nam joon from bts read the same book, he was praised for being educated on women's rights.
I notice this a lot. I once saw a video of a trans man explaining the difference in the treatment he gets when he talks about feminism as a man compared to when he was living as a woman. It’s very weird. People have this issue with female perspectives.
It seems like cuz bts fan base is mostly girls that's why he didn't get hate for it while her fan base is mostly dudes
I think its because the difference in the fandoms. Bts have a majority female fanbase. Whereas Irene had a large male following. When you look up the reviews of the book, it received 9.5/10 by Korean women, whereas men rated it a low 2.8 out of 10.
@@layloo5244ofc men wont likke it
This book was read not just by RM but many other celebrities too.. also this is not the only feminist book he have read...he've read a lot and I mean a lot...books about different topics. But no matter what, Namjoon be existing and somehow it's always in your minds...doesn't matter if he does something good or bad, if he learns or not...he will be criticised somehow
Idk but i find this so “funny” like…an idol (or multiple idols in a group) do cultural appropriation yet their Korean fans don’t care to acknowledge it…but god forbid an idol is a feminist or rumored to be one 😭 The movement in Korea has such a terrible reputation. Beginning to realize that a lot of them don’t exactly understand what the movement is for. They automatically assume “feminism” = men bad & women are superior. Anti-feminist men all think the same but the men in Korea can be so dramatic.
HDKDJDKFJDK let them find a photo of a book in the background or something and all hell breaks loose…
it’s such a shame that the “reputation” of being a feminist in korea even has women distancing themselves away from it bc w issues like the gender wage gap + spy cams (even mentioned in the book), it’s needed more than ever 😭
@@JESYCU
Yup
Women in SK are living in hell bc of spy cams
As a long time kpop fan sht like this bothers me so much. Women are always expected to act a certain way while straight men just get to do whatever they want. They'll do things and it gets called "cute" or "sexy" but the moment a woman does it, all of the sudden it's an issue. 🙄
yes ! the amount of scrutiny female idols are under is crazy
@@JESYCU ah so reading that book made you an ignorant of scrutiny on male idols😑
i recommend to read and review another book that irene read "please look after mom"
already on my list ! i’m looking forward to that one soooo much
thanks, i just read the book for the literal same reason, i was very angry while reading it, but still was a really good book imo, it shows that in any part of this world, women still suffer almost the same
Does it have less than 100 pages?cause i found smth on google pdf version like that
I just read this book and stumbled on to the internet to find anyone who has read it, just so I can feel a bit connected and listen to people who felt the same way about it (I do this whenever a book really makes me feel stuff!), I'm so pleased that I came across your video, it's my first time watching your channel and there is a really enjoyable energy here! I closed the book with the same expression as you, it hit me. As for idols, Dreamcatcher are my number one!
as dispassionate as the book seems, it rlly sneaks up on u and makes me FEEL doesn’t it… anyway thank u so much for watching :) dreamcatcher is in my top 3 fav ggs… luv luv luv them
I’m down for book reviews! And I like how you mixed it up as a vlog showing the reading process over a few days 👏🏾
I just finished watching the movie after reading the book in my high school IB english class. From an American perspective, I’ve read novels that have been WAY more on the nose with their feminist messaging, to the point of absolute frustration that made me stop reading. This book wasn’t like that at all. It felt so real. The movie was so well done as well and I cried more times than I can count. It is such an amazingly beautiful and tragic story that highlights the real struggles of women. My korean friend would absolutely not shut up about this book even before we started it in class and I’m really upset I didn’t listen to her before and read it sooner.
i really enjoyed this video! an absolute YES to more book content!! the way you edited this and did this whole thing in a "vloggy“ style was really refreshing since those typical book reviews can get really boring sometimes imo :‘)
keep dem vids coming, lots of love from seoul 💖
thank u thank u thank u ! argh i appreciate the feedback, will do :-)
한국에서는 아무래도 "페미니스트"인식이 안좋은것같아요..ㅠㅠ아무튼 언급해주셔서 감사합니다
I read that book cuz of joon and man... U can't imagine how angry it made me. I couldn't put it down cuz ooooh man... It was soooo freaking bad, like what happened to her and all the things she gave up for others but she ended up being sick at the end
If I would learn anything from this book, it would be never ever prioritize others be4 me
