- The owner of this forklift couldn't get it running after it sat for a few years so he bought a new unit. He offered it to a scrapper friend of mine who said if I can get it running and sell it, he'd give me the 6v53 engine from The Chevy C70.

You Are “A Workhorse” Chris! I am envious!
I'm sure you have heard of a 8-71 or 6-71 blower. Those originally came off Detroit diesel 8v71's and so on. The hot rodders of the past modified them to fit on V8 gas engines. Also the architecture of the two stroke Detroit diesels is that they can't draw in an air charge without some sort of forced induction. That's why Detroit labeled their engines that only had blowers as natural aspirated and an engine with a turbo and blower as forced induction. Detroit diesel engines also share the same architecture as EMD locomotive engines that are also two stroke, EMD was once part of GM.
U started an engine on an engine hoist.....a diesel none the less......love it
What you do with motor
Dude you are the MAN.
When I buy a 1970 Monte Carlo I want you to build me a motor. I will pay you. Youre the man I am always amazed at how much you know.
Man I love this channel simple, honest, real, very entertaining; what else can you ask for? Keep them coming
I really enjoyed the entire video. Fork lift, Detroit Diesel, a great boat ride with friends and Gus! That’s a complete presentation! Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback and I appreciate you checking up out the video!
Chris I just can't get enough of your videos mate.
Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
Can't thank you enough for checking them out! Cheers from Pennsylvania 🇺🇸
I love the sound of Detroit Diesel Engines! I look forward to the day you find something to install that engine into. The John Deere tractors are a beast but that was a little "okay a lot" too much for it! Always nice to see you and Jen and Gus too. Thank you Chris!
6V53 sounds good. If you can hepl it, try not to the emergency shut down, especially at rpm. It can suck the seals out of the supercharger. Then she is an oil user and possibly wants to run on her own oil. Big difference between a stuck rack and running away on oil! Loved the video.
13:15 Gus has such expressive eyes.
The engine hoist is rated for two tons, but the wheels on the hoist apparently are not,.... 😄🤣😄 Fun video bro..
I had to laugh when you said you did not know anything about forklifts...you are a mechanical genius dude. If the damn thing was built to move if at ALL possible...you will make it move!! Your dog is handsome also. I guess he is a dachshund ???
The possibilities are endless with what you could put that motor in.
it'd be a pretty good motor to swap into my 50cc scooter
Man, as a forklift field tech, this was immensely entertaining. Cuz when I get sent out to work on some old random junk like this, I'm just as confused!
Hey chris nice to be back, still waiting on the collab vids with andrew camarata. Keep it up
The front view of the DD running is so cool looking. I'd definitely swap that in something with the top sticking out of the engine bay like an Australian blower at a burnout contest. My 69 F-250 with a greasy looking beast like that would be my dream truck.
Finally! Where have you been?!!😊Nice footage by the way!!! As usual!!! God bless you!!!
That's quite a beast! Something handy for moving your engine lift is laying down a 4x8 sheet of body metal, rolls a lot easier!
Good idea!
My gawdness i have been binge watching all you video since Friday and let me say I enjoy every single one of them. Better than watching a movie for me.
Just keep doing what you're doing,, i enjoy your uploads and your style .what your doing works and stats seem to back that up pretty well! Keep it up
I hear that motley at the river!! love it !
Thanks for the fun info and content !! Happy to see more of this kinda stuff, sad cause kids these days don't wanna learn & don't want try to fix!
Happy to see anyone take apart & fix.
Learn by living !! & NEVER stop learning !!
Sweet I'm glad you got that oil diesel. I thought you said you were hoping to.
That Detroit would probably make an interesting engine for a boat. Just an idea. Stu (and his Detroit engine guru) over at Dangar Marine could probably give you some pointers. Stay safe out there.
yeah Stu would dig that motor for sure
By far one of my favorite channels to watch...thanks for pumping out another video...love your channel!
Best channel on CZcams
Im glad you give alot of these projects second chances. I hate seeing anything goto waste that someone can still use.
Nothing like working on a non running forklift at night using a headlamp
You always seem to find a solution, you pick through the problems and get whatever you're working on running once again. That Detroit sounds really nice, it really will be interesting to see what you put it in. Thanks for another great video and enjoy your time off on the water 👍☮️🇺🇲
Keep them coming ,very talented you are
Im a retired auto mechanic love watching your vids I would like learning more about how diesels work and run and trouble shoot them. Have I worked on diesels yes but I dont fully understand them
I love your adventures into the unknown, and how you figure things out as you go. I love your videos. Keep doing what you do.
Oh man what a treat! Torino trip looks like it’s been a blast but glad to have a video
Yeah the Torino trip was definitely a good time! Back to work now!
Gus, the most worldly Weiner on the planet.
And got to ride in some seriously cool cars!
Great video again. I love Chris’s ambition and desire to simply mess with things.
Can't get enough of your content Chris. I check everyday to see if you've uploaded anything, and I download as soon as something pops up hahaha. I wish you had a whole production crew following you around to keep content uploaded regularly.
Learning so much from you too!
Sending love to you, Gus and the Mrs from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬❤️😄
Just a suggestion but that engine on that air boat would be absalutly awesome
It's a little too heavy for that. The power to weight ratio is not very good
Torque monster gear reduction 2 blade prop woah baby.
Midnight in Philly!!! You gettn jacked., Stay safe Chris, Lovya channel......
Dude, you are one hard worker!!! Great videos
Love the videos man, thanks for the uploads…love watching the problem solving
A lot of fork trucks are duel fuel, they can run off gas, or propane. Good chance there is a valve to switch back, and forth between the two.
From an Englishman’s perspective, this channel is doing much for the good reputation of America and Americans themselves.
Love the videos man! Can't wait to see that 6v53 torn apart and built!
Congrats Chris on getting the DD engine as payment. it is a Beast. lv the story and ur pup.
Great video Chris. Well done on this one buddy. Love to the family ❤
Excellent score mate now, just something to put it in, all the best to you and your loved ones
Love the vids man been watching a couple months catching up. Ready for some Torino footage. Ur a intelligent guy
Glad you're back. Been missing the vids. Cheers from Giddings, Texas.
Some of the best content on CZcams imo 😀
Man that engine has torque!! 👍👍
The end of this video is really cool... would love an update on the 6v53.
You are relentless Chris! I say that to your credit!
this engine would kick azz in the truck Ranchero !!!
awesome as usual Chris... keep up the great vids and look forward to the vid on the GranTorino! Have a good one.
Awesome video as always man!!🤘🤘
For the John Deere to lift a bit more, I think AvE did a video years ago about tinkering with the relief valve on the loader circuit on his...
Finally a episode. Glad your back
Mr. OPTIMISM. LOOKS LIKE BRAND NEW. Blessings man! I love your show.
I worked for Ballantine forklift in Huntington Valley. We fixed hundreds of those forklifts
@NoNonsenseKnowHow I know this is real old Chris, but I just have to let you know, you can't use starting fluid on a propane engine. Propane when present with starting fluid will not fire since the mixture is so rich that even with good spark it won't ignite. So on a propane motor you have to nail down all the details first like you saw here. Fix the leaks, clean the plugs, ensure the solenoid is opening ( yeah removing it works too! ). Wala the motor jumps to life! Low compression on a propane motor is almost a non-issue.
You’re doing great man, keep it up.
Always a fun time , and very interesting!
Awesome startup
Awesome puppies, Gus is the bomb, I bet he is the life of the party with his brother around.
Excellent video great content thank you for sharing this with us four stars
Chris, I really like your videos, you have a lot of talent and skill, greetings to the whole family from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico....
Whats happening Chris, long time know hear..great to see another vid..made my night dude..thanx
We flew out to Vegas to do a road trip. Thanks for checking the video out! I appreciate the support
Looks like you have a great piece to start with.
At first I was confused the title has 6v53 and you were talking about propane and my mind was warping until you opened the hood. That Ford motor in the forklift is a good engine
That would really go nice in an old vintage school bus from like the 40’s or 50’s ! You could make it a camper and pull your boat ! There has to be one in PA by you !
I figured that Detroit was about 2k lbs. I pulled the 7.3 IDI out of my 88 F250 and it weighed 1100 lbs.
Great job.
Great video!!
My 6v-53 has been on the engine stand in my workshop for nearly 10 years! Now I want to get it running...
That whole set up is cool.
HEY! I was just thinking that we had not seen you in a while! Thumbs UP man!!
Yeah we were on a little trip for a bit. But now back to work. And thanks man
I wanted to share the vibe I’m getting watching this. For some reason, to me it feels like you’re on a flight line at night, of course. I don’t know what gives off that vibe to me or why I would feel the need to share it, but there it is. Oh. Well. I’m high too if that matters. I dunno 🤷🏻♂️
It might be all of the reefer unit running in the background. They were causing that drone
Great video bud!
Thumbs up 👍 that not smoking 💨needs a TLC 🛠️
the sound on last engine 😍
great video love it
That little tractor said”uh no I’m not picking that up”
I hope you can get that airboat out on the water this summer :)
I really enjoy your videos
How's the fan boat coming along? Like to see some closure on a few of the older projects!
It will hopefully be one of the that's videos.
At least your boat runs!! We bought a Seadoo Utopia 205. Beautiful boat! Mercury power head and Jet drive was a pain in the ass to locate parts! End game, the wood sandwiched in the fiberglass was rotting compromising the structure and resale.. BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand..
Thanks!
Thank you very much Curtis!
LOVE A 6V!!!!
Seriously? What could I possibly suggest that has been more random and cool than what you have "will-it-start(ed)" lately? After this forklift, all I could think of is that the other dudes who wrenched on this saw you get it started and just had to eat crow. I think a cool contest would be to have your subscribers call out a ride that you could marry to that monster of a diesel. I can't think of one right now, but it would have to be something worthy of all that torque. Thoroughly enjoyed this video!
The lpg won't run until she's up to temp, you can take the sensor out and warm it up.
You have a lot of ⚽️ starting that thing on the hoist. I kept thinking it was gunna break that chain. That was awesome though.
It's handy for home take care All ROB
Enjoy your trip to Vegas, cant wait to see the Torino.
Try it out, I dig the field mentality of fix it.
12:14 What'd I tell ya hahaha. Soon as she lit off at all, all six came online. Sounding GREAT! Quiet, though, needs the exhaust header dumped.
Your videos very halp full for my future garage and car and bike 🚴 so thanks for every thing...... I remember you till i can live.... Your like Hogwarts school of automobile..... For me....
I definitely like to try and revive this old bobcat skid steer sitting in a guys yard just down the road from my house. It hasn’t moved in a while
That engine sounds really good make a hell of a truck motor what are you been for so long You need to make more videos man more consistency would be much appreciated I know you're a busy guy love the videos anyway👍🇺🇸✌️👌
Cool old Detroit, it would work well in some kind of work boat.
Any willitrun video will do.! Nice job 👍
