As a Gothenburg native, I can't begin to describe how happy I am with this song and especially the music video (I laughed quite a bit when you thought it was a Halo/CoD map. Man, it would be awesome to have post apocalyptic Gothenburg as a map in those games)
Dont know if you know this Nik but the singer is the vocalist of Dark Tranquility and the original singer of In Flames. After both of the bands first albums they basically traded singers. This dude also has a killer singing voice

I recently started listening to Dark Tranquility and sweet virgin Mary on a purple unicycle, is it GLORIOUS! Insomnium levels of emotion and heaviness and I'm eating it up with a spoon! Why did it take so long for me to get into them?

There wasn’t a crazy solo because that’s not Jesper’s style. He was never a shredder but probably one of the best melodic solo guitar players out there. Here’s to the return of in flames!!!!!
There is no solo because both Jesper and Niclas are rhythm guitar players and NOT SOLO guitarists

Bjorn is the only part of In Flames that never changed. His solos are a definition of melodeath. I guess he would make this song even better. But he is probably on Friden's side in this divorce..
Jesper is still one of the best "in the pocket" players in Metal
lol sounds like Dark Tranquility more than anything. And based on your comment, don't forget Jesper was probably a part of 4 albums from In Flames you may not like. This is the definition of generic. It brings nothing new to the table, takes no risks, its limited by Mikaels extremely shallow range in his screams, and sounds more like a Dark Tranquility song even without his vocals. Take all that and add upon the fact that they won't make Jesper tour because of his "condition" that he has been fighting for nearly two decades now which is borderline enabling. They are allwoing him to write for them, but hey if you can't perform because of your demons, its cool, we understand, "heal up." Dude has had that chance and these guys are both enabling and exploiting him at this point.
So sick to see Jesper back especially rocking a Hetfield vee. In flames was never the same after he left.
Easily the best surprise I've gotten all year. Hearing the classic lineup of In Flames, alongside Mikael Stanne (the original vocalist of IF btw) is an absolute treat! Would've liked to hear more of the guitar harmonies, but I'm pretty sure they're saving all the best stuff for the album. Super excited to see what else they'll bring to the table!
Stanne was never a full time member of In Flames. Jesus. People should know that by now.

DT is the first thing I think of when this genre comes up in conversation. And this is definitely related to that. Closely related ;p
Mikael Stanne will always have my heart and this beats down into the roots of what melo death is/was and should be.

its like this line up had to come back to remind the world what true melodic death metal is! I never thought I would see this lineup release an album, but I am so pleased and excited!
This sounds as if old In Flames decided to become it's own thing. And as someone that loves both eras of the band, I am stoked to have both.

I think they have three eras actually. Pre Reroute, Reroute - Come Clarity or maybe even ASOP, and SOAPF - Present. Not too fond of the last one but I love the other two

What a frickin great time to be alive. Damn this Band makes me so happy. In Flames was kinda like my first drug that got me into Metal early 2000's and I fell in love with The Halo Effect the second I saw the Bandmembers
It's literally a blend of 2000-2004 In Flames and and 1999-2005 or so Dark Tranquillity, and that's not a bad thing.

It's like In Flames - Jester Race album with Mikael singing instead. The guitar tone is oldschool In flames. I missed that sound. Also the usage of sample is less than new In Flames, more than old In Flames which is perfect in my opinion. That's shame it is a single. Before to tell something about it, I think we might need to listen a whole album. But I'm sure the guitar tone and the melodies will not change as long as Jesper plays it, which is perfect. Also Stanne has a simple but very emotional vocal technique, a great example of the perfection in simplicity.
I think drums will be evolved in the album, maybe a bit more impactful or complicated as Daniel was in In Flames. That will most probably the only thing sounds missing in this single to listen the real swedish melodic death from the very founding members of the genre.

This song specifically sounds more like Dark Tranquility. There are songs that sound like you smashed both sounds together and then some are definitely In Flames driven where some are DT driven again. Killer album either way.
