Charlie is a very lucky boy to have such a caring Momma! I had a basset when I was a kid and we had no idea what we were getting into but I've wanted another one for decades ever since then. If I ever am lucky enough to get another I'll be sure to follow your suggestions. Much love and belly rubs to Charlie!
Basset hound nails are like tree trunks! My Pippin does very well at the groomer for a trim, but not for me at home. So far, a light wipe of her ears every few days does the job for her. I love the ear-cleaning mumble. LOL Pippin's ear tips are sometimes soggy as when she's bored, she sucks on them! We just got Pippin a harness and she went from pulling and being a brat on a leash, to walking nicely and being cool and calm when strange dogs bark from behind their fences. I didn't know about the collar/glaucoma connection, but now I'm very glad I did get the harness! Her great-grandfather lost an eye to glaucoma last year. She's a young dog (a year old next weekend) and I'm hoping she will reach as old or older than my last Basset, who was 13-14 when he passed. We aren't quite sure, as he was a rescue.
I wish your Pippin a very happy, long life! Erasmus was a few days shy of 16 before he passed. I think that weight control, exercise, and lots of love really help.
@@BassetHoundCharlie350 So far she has been the healthiest, most well-adjusted dog I've ever had. Gorgeous shiny coat, rippling muscles, and the biggest heart you've ever met. I'm working on training her to be a therapy dog, since she absolutely ADORES visiting the nursing home where I work. Yeah, she sometimes tries to eat rocks, and she yaps when she's excited. But hey, nobody's perfect!
I've only owned Basset hounds for a dog to have I could have used all this for mine, an ear infection smells so bad, the vet did an ear was. what came out .I gaggedt o me the puppies are the cutest I've seen, their innate quality is I think the worst is difficulty training. potential owners of this breed should research this breed 1st. Like personality traits, the care they should know about just like your video
That’s true about the nails . My Jackson has been ban from almost every groomer in town because of his dislike for the mani/pedi 😂. I have to take him to the groomer at the local animal shelter because she owns a horse ranch and deals with large rambunctious animals.😂
Charlie was just at the vet for anal glands. He was already upset about the glands and had whined and growled a lot. They tried doing his nails and he went totally berserk so all they got was one paw done!
Short long eared shake Charlie, is going to be spoiled no doubt in my mind...as for glaucoma....in fifty (50) years I've never had that issue agreed on the folds...also baby powder under the front tree trunked legs...
He was a rescue so we don't know! But there are American Basset Hounds and European Basset Hounds - European ones are more saggy and wrinkly, so we think Charlie is an American Basset Hound!
He is so fluffy, snuggly, cute, and sweet. 🐕🐶🐴
Aww thank you! He is!
He's a happy hound

Oh he is horribly spoiled lol :) He was a rescue and neglected his first four years of life so my husband and I are trying to make up for it now!
@@BassetHoundCharlie350 just a big toothed jackass, they are wonderfully loyal non agression animals who deserve to be loved...
I would love to have a basset just like him. Is there a particular bloodline that’s makes him not so saggy and with those colors?

@@BassetHoundCharlie350 Thanks! I will look into it.
