    she needs to watch them in a miced up full live performance because I feel like there is a gap in her understanding of how kpop idols train. Yeah, beyonce has been doing this for years and years, but this traiining system is perfected by 100,000s of thousands of manhours over decades.

    Also you're gonna be hard pressed to find a kpop group that can kill vocals and choreography at the same time the way Seventeen does

  • @atozatiny

    "i want whoever is doing the main vocals to just walk down the stage if it means hitting the note" and that's what is so great about seventeen bc typically, at anytime, they give the person singing in the moment the least movement if anything they have them standing or walking. So they definitely keep that kinda thing in mind!

    • @atozatiny
      @atozatiny Před 2 lety +9

      Since it is KPOP, it's not like everyone is singing at once. Its only one maybe two at a time and typically wont be dancing nearly as hard, if at all, when it's their spotlight.

    Seventeen, BTS, Mamamoo, Ateez , NCT127 are a few groups I can think of off the top of my head that can slay vocals and choreo at the same time . Generally if they have a huge note they’ll step out, hit the note then step back into formation .

  • @svt6724

    Where the formations seem "off", there is a member who doesn't do the full dance due to an injury - they come on and off

    Hmmmm...I think there's also a difference between an idol group and a pure dance group? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the point of being the center of an idol group (whenever you're in the center position) is to get the audience's attention. In a lot of idol group competitions online, they have a lot of tests to determine the center of the formation because the center has to have the ability to grab the audience's attention more so than other positions. I can imagine in a pure dance group, it is much better if nobody overdances, but an idol group is a totally different thing in my opinion.

    • @Koko3op
      @Koko3op  Před 2 lety +8

      Hmmm yeah I see what you’re saying. It may be a case of taste. I personally don’t mind it for someone in the Center to pick up their energy a bit more than others for sure if the movement stays clean in quality like Vernon did imo but yeah it’s a case of taste I guess!

    • @serenity_in_chaos
      @serenity_in_chaos Před 2 lety +5

      @@Koko3op Hmmm...I'm talking more about the way some idols are considered the center of the group, actually. Since I'm a newbie, I googled it up and found this: "What is a center in an idol group?
      In the K-pop industry, “center” is a term that refers to a group member who receives the most support and publicity from their agency. A center often literally stands in the center during a performance, has the most song lines and screen time in music videos, and is prioritized when appearing on TV shows."
      I also don't mind if someone in the center position is more energized than others. After all, they're in the spotlight. That said, though, I also googled if Seventeen had any particular center, but it seems there is none, though I know some other groups have a clear center member.
      Edit with additional comment: I think these days being a center of a live show is less important because of the so many provided personal fan cams of each member, though. So you can always look for these personal fan cams of your biases.

    Sorry but the concept of singing and dancing always being separated from performance is something alien in the realm of Kpop. Very few comebacks from Kpop artists have consisted of stand still and sing types of performances. However, because Kpop is so demanding visually, dance-wise, and vocally, Kpop stars aka idols are trained to have high vocal persistence and stamina. Obviously, some idols are better at this than others, but they also combine backtracks in areas with emphasized choreo. All of this mixes together to create the beautiful art of Kpop that is not just singing, but dancing and acting as well.

  • @gp2671
    @gp2671 Před 2 lety +21

    I've noticed triangle formations are slightly off in other group's choreography as well. It's like they are trying to form a triangle pointing to the side of the stage. Sometimes, it will look sideways for a few seconds and then another member will step out nearby, when it's their time to sing, and then the triangle is better aligned.
    For groups, triangles/formations can be slightly off depending on the number of members in the group. If they have too many or not enough members, a lot of their formations are slightly uneven. Sometimes when a member or a few members are not apart of the choreography, whether it be from injury, not being in Korea, or military service, it can mess with formations. A lot of groups, like Twice, leave a spot open and dance as if the member was actually there. In SEVENTEEN's case, a member was injured so he kept going in and out.
    Over-dancing is very common in dance practices but group members tone it down during live performances, mainly because they are trying to focus on singing and rapping live and want to be as steady as possible.
    I don't really like to criticize dance practices too much because the group has probably been practicing off screen all day and film like at 2 in the morning.

    i love that seventeen can actually sing this LIVE. and seungkwan and dokyeom eats that bridge on their livestages.

    OK so, the vocalsit will usually be the centre... and of course the centre changes constantly. The choreo [usual in kpop] is usually designed to highlight whoever is singing at the time. Not only that, but often, the vocalist will be doing something less intense as they sing, before melding back into the main body of the dance again, to be replaced by the next singer. if you watch carefully you will figure out who is singing at any given moment. For the really difficult singing parts... the singer will most likely be stationary or almost stationary - before handing vocals over to another member and dancing again. its sort of wizardry [smoke and mirrors as we say]. Seventeen. with 13 vocalists. are masters of this technique with constant shifts in centre and formation.

    @marystombaugh2282 Před 2 lety +5

    Totally agree with her on the vocals thing lol While Seventeen is pretty great at singing while dancing, in general I would much rather have groups sacrifice some dance for a good vocal performance. I also wish that companies would rely less on backing tracks. Sometimes the idols are singing well but their vocal tracks are turned up so loud that you can't hear them, or it feels like their competing and makes it feel off.

    Seventeen have one of the most stabel performance also when it comes to vocals... there is a benifit of having 13 members because everyone only has a few lines and they trained good enough to know how to control their breath when they have to sing... also the one who is singing most of the time has not as mich movement as the others
    also they have other songs that are made to showcase their vocals and to which they dont dance
