Let me tell you something about Drakkar. It was a major hit in the 80’s! Every club you went to in Miami back in the 80’s smelled like Drakkar, because all the men wore it. It was that popular. I remember.
Lol! Man, I forgot about all those cheap 80’s scents. I was born in ‘81. My parents would have house parties and the main rooms would be full of cigarette smoke and then infamous colognes of today: drakkar, preferred stock, Polo Green, Stetson, Brut, etc. Then came Cool Water, CK Eternity and Obsession and flipped the script on frags that led to Issey Miyake and Aqua Di Gio in the mid nineties.
Honestly love this video. Aromatic fougeres are my favorite and im glad videos like this come along to show its beauty. Thank you!
Bro!!!! On my soul I was looking for a barbershop fragrance just last week and I didn't wanna blindly buy nothing and now here come this video!! Stay on your grind and thank you for the content J.
Perfect list! Love me a good barbershop fougere - BdJ might be my favourite frag. I would've thrown Chanel Platinum Egoiste in the mix.
Great video Justin!
I'm a huge fan of barbershop style fragrances. A few of my favorites are Viking by Creed (the best Creed imo), Eau de Cologne by Âge de Querelle, Zarahoff Signature, and Bon Monsieur by Rogue Perfumery which is the latest addition to my collection.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Amina! I'm happy to hear you enjoy Viking! Its amazing. I've heard great things about Âge de Querelle, need to try it!
Great picks, Justin! My favorite barber shop fragrance is Rive Gauche, which I’m fortunate to have because I think it’s now discontinued. Keep up the excellent work 👍
I like how passionate Matthew is, nice touch with the was stamp
Really love barbershop scents. Saving up for Gravitas, Masculin Pluriel might be my favorite.
I believe that was Autumn leaves you played as your intro nice intro and great idea for a video cannot let Mr Smelly do all the barbershop videos. Really enjoyed the video and insight into this genre of fragrances which I am starting to look at more.
What an intro! Wynton Marsalis eat your heart out! And, of course, another great review 😁 Also, that t shirt you’re wearing is so dope! Loving the cornflower blue. Where did you get it?
Congrats to the winners and great list and I enjoyed it and I had a bottle of Ralph Lauren safari and I like drakkar noir and zahaoff signature pour homme and im going to try the other fragrances and have a blessed 🌙
Awesome video man! Love the new intros too. Also, that Meleg documentary is really cool, went and watched the whole 14min video.
This is interesting especially because of the clip in the middle of the perfumer. Close to my process as well...and its funny that he mentioned creating a custom scent for the guy...because I think as perfumers we all love to do that...it feels so personal and unique to create something for another person specifically. Also he made a good point on the IFRA compliant stuff.....such a hit to the perfumers that larger companies abide by it.
Nice list Justin! So many on this that I’m interested in, thanks for taking the time and making the effort to shine a light on these. My suggested addition would be Nishane B-612. Hope to get to experience all these at some point.
You have great energy about you, my man. Great video as well. Very informative for a fragrance noob like me.
So many memories of dads and grandads. Just picked up a 30ml of Drakar for memory’s sake. Favorite has to be At the Barber’s. The smell takes me back to my childhood when my stepdad would take me and my brothers to the barbershop. The only thing missing from the smell is the chatter of all the old men complaining about everything in the neighborhood.
This video is right on time as I am planning to up my fougere collection. My favorite among my current collection is Chanel Platinum Egoiste. You introduced me to Pasha de Cartier Parfum and that is now on my list of favorites (haven't tried the original). Most interested in testing: Roja Scandal, Zaharoff Signature, and Mr. Smelley's fragrance (especially since you rated it above Scandal). Another fougere high on my list is Acqua Di Parma's Colonia Futura. This is a sleeper! Released in 2020, this offering from ADP deserves more reviews. Smelled this in-store last week. Very impressed. I just ordered a decant. Would love for you to review this one.....Also interested in Masculin Pluriel, since I'm a big fan of MFK.
Great review man! So many hidden gems. Thanks for shares it with us.Stay safe and Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷👍
Great list! I love Barber Shop from Authenticity and Beau De Jour
Autumn leaves opening... sweet! I’m a sax player but you’ve got some tone.
Great list! MFKs Masculin Pluriel and Nishane's B612 are two fougeres I'm really keen on trying (in addition to Beau De Jour which you mentioned).
I love At the Barber’s, would love it more if they brought the price down
Believe it or not a small batch of the line hit fragrancenet. So wait it out just a little longer!
Great review bro.... great review
Man I love Zaharoff right now. Got At the Barber's 3 yrs ago and I like the scent. I just don't wear it much. Now I'm not really into vintage scents but I want to try Beau de Jour, Barber Shop, and Gravitas. Good vid as always my g 👊🏽
Out of the individuals that wears a beard, I'm likely one of very few who sincerely misses shaving. Also very few men these days use the brush and shave soap which is a must when using a razor.
Having a father explain how to shave then growing up to do so yourself.
These are fond memories for myself. I appreciate fougeres because of the memories they invoke. I prefer rich florals so I don't wear where them out often. I wear them for myself.
Come on Autumn Leaves!! I was just listening to Chet Baker's version with Bob James, Ron Carter, and Steve Gadd. Killin'. Sounding great, my man !!
YSL M7 Oud Absolu is my favorite in barbershop fragrances. I wish I had an opportunity to experience the original. But, I'm satisfied with my newly acquired scents.
Wearing Safari today - Nice list bud , I was expecting to see Rive Gauche PH and Paco Rabanne PH but I know that you could go on forever. - love the vid’s autumnal opening.
Matthew Meleg’s fragrances may not be considered traditional in a sense that he is not a traditionally trained perfumer, but in my opinion, his fragrances are some of the most traditionally crafted fragrances money can buy. They are beautiful, rich, complex and old-worldly... especially since they aren’t IFRA regulated. Have yet to try Canadian Gentlemen yet, but hopefully will be able to soon
I think that Rochas Moustache EDT smells quite similar to Gillette "Barbershop Fresh" cans of shaving foam. That foam, in turn, seems to be in the same category as what I recall Canoe smelled like when I sniffed it a few years ago. Another one in the same category, as well as being somewhat similar to Clubman Pinaud in the opening and Lalique lion & Eau Sauvage EDT in the drydown, is Capucci Pour Homme. So, those are two barbershop fresh fougeres. Somehow, in a very different sort of way, Aramis reminds me of a classic upscale barbershop even though it's a woody leather scent.
Aite bruh! Autumn Leaves at the beginning! I like that sauce u put on it. I may have to do a video an put some brushes on that 🥁 🤔. Love this content as well! ( I’m not watching in order lmao). I’m very new to fragrances so I’m loving all of this...so is my wife lol.
Houbigant Fougere Royale, and Penhaligon's Sartorial, prefer them over Beau de Jour, although I like the later as well.
Honorable mention to some wonderful barbeshoppy aftershaves: Pinaud Clubman´s After Shave Lotion, and Fine Accoutrements American Blend, both excellent!
MFK masculine Pluriel and Zaharoff are my favorite and at the barbers is fire too
Bro, getting your own scent made to order, thats gotta be overwhelmingly awesome. I mean the choices and decisions that must be made to determine what of your favorite notes, will be put together in one bottle of magic potion. I'll be looking at his site just to see his offeres. As for my Fougeres I rotate between TF's BDJ, Frank's No. 2, Zahroff "The OG", Eight and Bob (OG and Egypt)and Nishane b612. Good to see you brada.
Thanks so much for watching bro. I still gotta try B612. Btw, I didn’t forget about Sicily! Gonna be featuring it in an upcoming video.
As a musician myself, I love the new intros. Great list by the way. Also do you still wear Drakkar Noir?
Even though I'm bald, I do love a barbershop fragrance. I'm not bitter
😔
Great intro!
Good list! Have you tried Platinum Egoiste? Considered by many to be a modern fougere, even though it launched in 93. Also, Acqua di Parma’s Colonia could be on your list. Thanks!
Thank you! I haven't smelled PE in years, need to revisit it. I remember enjoying it. If I had Colonia, I'm sure it'd be on the list as well!
Definitely Zaharoff Signature was a miss, but you corrected it in the comments hahaha. I'd also add Guerlain's Vetiver, very nice, classic and classy aromatic fougere that transports me to a 1950s barbershop like the ones we see in the movies. Great vid, Justin!
@@stayfreshproductions It's a lovely classic, my friend. Give it a try at least in a sample or in some store. Interestingly enough, you can get some Roja similarities and inspiration adopted from Guerlain. Today I'm using a hoodie with some Guerlain Vetiver sprayed yesterday. I didn't remember as soon as I was wearing it and at first I thought it was a Roja.
Drakkar Noir was what we used to call pimp oil back when I was younger. Probably one of the first scents I wanted.
my personal fav? MDCI Parfums Invasion Barbare... modern take on classic barbershop frag. Love it. I heard Alexandria Fragrances has a clone that I may have to check out (just due to how expensive it is), recently got into AF house... not those bootleg clones you'd see in chinatown in the 90s lol.
Do like At the Barber's - went thru a bottle a few years ago.
Gunna have to get my nose on the Authenticity Perfumes Barbershop... sounds very pleasant.
Appreciate the content and thanks for the giveaway...so grateful! Apologize for the delay in hitting you up.
Nice video! Cannot go wrong with more fougeres! :-) Meleg is so awesome! Discovered recently and really love it. This guy is a genius!
Eight & Bob original would probably be my favorite fougere/barbershoppy fragrance
Great review just subscribed, been watching for a while though. Not sure if you tried Houbigant Fougere Royale Amazing Barbershop scent
Majority of the time classic fougere or so call Barbar shop fragrances have in the base
Oakmoss
Patchouli
Leather
Civet
Castorioum
Wow! I need to get Gravitas!!
Great review my guy. How many sprays for the barbershop and other authenticity perfumes. Cheers
That video clip about the indie perfumer, is that from a larger documentary? Because that had me super interested.
Aaron Terence Hughes, oud. Layer his onyx on top, WOW. Beautiful.
I love YSL Rive Gauche gotta try Roja parfum Scandal
Nice video, man! Also, I've been wondering, where do you get your test strips from. I like the style of those, but I haven't been able to find any good test strips with a lot of surface area to them like yours.
Can you do a video on how to be as smooth, cool, calm and collected as you.
Were you always like this?
Did you train yourself to be this smooth?
I'm dying to know bro, please share your tips
I think of the ones you mentioned I’d be down to smell Viking, Scandal and Barbershop.
I did get a sample of Canadian Gentleman and I look forward to trying it.
voice smooth as ysl l'homme
This guy can steal my wife😂😂😂 great review
@@stayfreshproductionsfr nobody wants the left overs 🤢🤮 keep that for yourself or send it to the streets
You got to try happyland studio barbershop. That house has some good stuff 🙌🏽
If you’ve not yet got your nose on Xerjoff Mefisto Gentiluomo, you’re surely missing out on one of the most amazing & fantastic gentlemanly scents on the market. One of the most beautiful barbershop scents available. You will love it. I guarantee it.
You made Future Justin work 2x this video...hope he forgives you. Great list, I have some of those. Others with the barbershop vibe that I enjoy include Diptyque-Eau de Minthe, Floris London-Santal and Amouage-Bracken Man.
Paco Rabanne homme purr barber ...my very first fragrance I bought so long ago. Boucheron homme , Jaipur also Boucheron
Since you like Viking, check out Bracken Man by Amouge. Even better modern take on a fougere.
I see another brother on CZcams doing his thing I support & subscribe! - Tolu
Hey Justin, where would you put Nishane B612 and Tom Ford Fougere d’argent on this list now? Im looking to buy my first fougere and I always trust your taste.
Hello, do you like a lavender note? Do you like a candle? Try the feuille de lavande candle by diptyque. When I lit mine, I noticed a blue hue in the wax. Its amazing
Also, have you tried much from l'occitane? L'occitan by L'occitane is a beautiful spicy, lavender. They also do a lavende edc which is awesome
I still gotta try more from L’Occitane! I’ll look into that candle.
I have had my eyes on Beau De Jour and Eau Sauvage for a while. ☘️
I prefer Roja Danger to Scandal, but Scandal gets more YT love.. Also really like Penhaligon's - Endymion for a barbershop sort of scent.
I remember those Barber Scents
...someone is sleeping on a few other greats like Penhaligon's Sartorial, MDCI Parfums Invasion Barbare and Histoires De Parfums 1725 Casanova!
I love Invasion Barbare and 1725, just don’t own them. Same with Eight & Bob Egypt.
azzaro pour homme , jaguar original , paco rabanne pour homme , zaharoff signature pour homme :)
Percival has an identical note breakdown to Drakkar. Smells very similar to me.
Interesting...they are both fresh, but they don’t quite smell that similar to me.
What do you think about Chanel Egoiste Platinum? Did you ever tried!?
Its been many years, I need to try it again...but I remember enjoying it every time I smelled it.
I completely forgot to include Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme, but it should TOTALLY be here. Its fantastic. Links to check it out (and all other fragrances) in the description!
Hi
Just a question that it seems I can't get an answer on about z indie perfumer brand called Sandovalis with a Mexican perfumer with the same name that uses only 100% natural ingredients.
They don't sell to Sweden what I can see, they are not cheap either $ 450:- for a 30 ml bottle, but I was lucky to find them, not on a site that sells fragrances but on a auction site for pretty much everything with a lot of vintage stuff I was looking at, I think I got a real bargain when nearly nobody wanted this unknown brand but bought things like L'artisan, ELDO and brands like that instead.
But seems most reviews and videos are Spanish speaking, would be dun to know if someone knows anything about
"Sandovalis - Cicle Club"
and
"Sandovalis - Aqua Colonia"
I would be grateful if someone had some info om them.
Sitting here myself at a inheritance distribution after an estate register at the moment so I have to det someone else pick them up at me and have 2+ weeks before I can smell them myself, (had some accidents with the Post before so I'm not so keen on sending them here with the post either.
U also forgot mfk's masculin pluriel
@@Zvooonkoo didn’t forget, just don’t own it
