  • Geoff Castellucci is by far my favorite bass singer and his covers are always a (comfort and) joy. This 'god ye merry gentlemen' is no different!
Go check out the original video: • God Rest Ye Merry Gent...

The fact you can hit even close, and can recognize those... I am impressed. I know that isn't easy.

Geoff shows respect to the "original" arrangements he covers but takes them apart and travels down a different musical path I love hearing beloved songs arranged in a different way. Expect the unexpected from Geoff and Voiseplay Kudos

This dropped to the public this morning. I just love the way he acknowledges his other selves like he's quadruplets.

I am so glad you loved this one! This arrangement is killer. Geoff mentioned that Eli helped him with the lighting on this one and it really lends to the feel of the arrangement and the vibe of Geoff’s performance. Happy Holidays!!! 💜🎄💜

Wow. You jumped on this fast. This song just cries out for his beautiful slow and low treatment. And those harmonies!
I love your obvious enjoyment (and maybe envy 😉) of his amazing flexibility. This really showed off his ability to bounce around in different octaves , different vocal techniques and different It seems like it shouldn’t work but it does.
I like that you pointed out that he shared his low note awesomeness with his background singers. I hadn’t noticed that, which is one of the reasons I try to watch a lot of reactors with musical backgrounds.
You have a nice sonorous tone as well. I listened to two and you did a great cover of a cover. Have you checked out Geoff’s tutorials? (Maybe you won’t hate him😆).

Geoff does the best arranging. It's why I like VoicePlay best of all the a cappella groups. You keep hearing new things. It reminds me of Manheim Steamroller. I love the cadence he used in this and his range is always outstanding. If you want a funny one of VoicePlay's try Mission: Jingle Bells. It's the traditional song, Mission Impossible theme, with a bit of the Saw series thrown in. So creative! BTW, you've got a really good voice.

Oh It's out now! The shanty feel is the drums which have a medieval feel, as does the later section with those beautiful harmonies. He mixes up the styles so much in this one and I just love it. Astounding arrangement. He just gets better and better. And well done!

Bro, you got a great voice. Geoff is 41 I think 🤔 if your voice is already as low as it is, you have the potential to be a bass beast yourself by the time your vocal chords get a few years on them. Bravo and keep it up 😉

As Medieval Christmas Doom Jazz goes, this really is a standout arrangement. Why do Geoff sets always look like back-of house at a rustic wedding venue? It's starting to feel like all the loose, empty frames mean something.

I love this arrangement, but I'm too distracted by that jacket. I want it so much!
On a more serious note, I get a real Mannheim Steamroller vibe from this version. Very nice.

I was disapointed that Geoph didn't wear any holiday costumes or colors for the christmas song, I also was disappointed that the background wasn't having more decorations for the holiday. The things that I loved, was his low voice singing this song, and dropping so many low notes, that made it so unique and interesting, that is why I gave it the the thumbs up, great job keep up the great work.

I don't think green and red and Christmas stuff would go with the tone of the song. This is intense and deep. Not light and airy

Loved your reaction and loved this song. :) If you want more awsome songs other then Voiceplay and Pentatonix, try Home Free. I love all three groups and every single member, former or current, that does solo stuff. They all have their own styles and twists. The same goes for you reactors, you all have your own angle. :) I enjoyed yours so you got another subscriber. Take care!

I love your reactions. It’s always such a pleasure to see a reaction from someone who really sees/hears what’s going on. (I do have a question: I have trouble hearing octaves when you get into 1 territory, but are you sure that’s not an A0? We know he can do a Bb0, and this sounded lower than A1 to me.).
Just curious about your own singing, because you clearly could do a cover of this song, but do you do any arranging? I’d be interested in hearing things that are uniquely yours. I’m going to be checking into your playlist.

    • @CJayBass
      @CJayBass  Před 2 lety

Hi! Yes I'm certain it's an A1. It was a chest note and if you're basing it off off what I sang, I sang an A2, just to figure out what note it was (I secretly have a vocal pitch app open on my phone).
As to me arranging... That's.. Not exactly in my skill set. I have never done any music theory. My insights come from experience. That on top of singing bass (for myself and now the internet) for a year and a half, makes me know more than the average reactor. But I'm not as knowledgeable as a vocal coach.
The most I've thought up is a small piano bit. But arranging something from start to finish is a bit out of reach for me atm. I'm planning on doing more of my own covers though. (rather than covering covers) But that would still be with an already existing instrumental version.

Hi. Geoff is great and his range is stellar! I am going to refer you to Avi Kaplan. He has given up the power bass sudden drops just for effect but bass singer he remains. Don't worry about your range Geoff and Tim Foust are both around 40. Avi Kaplan is just 32.
Change On the Rise is epic but his latest is just a beautiful demonstration of a natural bass singing without dramatic effects. "First Place I Go".
I am always partial to the original music of singer-songwriters and Avi is one of those.
