    THANK YOU for the commentary! I loved listening to you describe the process. I watched the original video a long time ago and loved it as well. But I love this one even more. I WISH I could have some of this paper - it's so beautiful and thin. You take such great care in all the different steps along the way. I am amazed at all the steps it takes to make these large sheets of paper. What do people use this large paper for? And do you also make this paper in other colors? Or with flowers mixed in? Just wondering.

    Hi , can you please show us hw to make that mold and deckle, the sugeta you use?

    • @fumin8
      @fumin8 Před 2 lety

      They can't make sugeta by themselves.
      It's quite difficult and needs high quality craftsman's skill to make ''su''.
      There are professional craftsmans for that.

    Please what is the use of this paper? And is it makes by hand for what reason?
    Or just as an art? Thank you

    • @chopin4525
      @chopin4525 Před 3 lety +4

      Multiple uses. It is acid free so it has archival qualities, you can use it depending on the gsm and the sizing for many different things like origami, chochin, calligraphy, watercolors, sumi-e, prints...
      I think it is also considered Intangible Cultural Heritage because there are very few families in Japan who make the paper following the entire traditional process which is very old.

    I would really like to buy some of your paper, but I live in Ecuador so it's dificult to do it. So I'm trying to make my own paper, I have already had a kozo plant, from it I plant a bit more six months ago. I did my first try making a paper but I fail the frame that I built didnt work. So I have a question, what can I use to replace the bambu frame? I couldnt find it in my country. I hope you will answer me. You did a good work and video.

      Not a paper maker but the next best thing I can think of is a silk screen. Usually bought at art supply stores

    Does using the bark kill the tree?

    • @fumin8
      @fumin8 Před 2 lety

      Japanese paper makers use mainly mulberry bark. They cut few meters high mulberry trees every winter.
      Only cut, not kill. New trunks will grow again from the root of the same tree in Spring, it's sustainable.
