On December 2, 2010, FIFA announced the 2022 World Cup would take place in a surprising country, Qatar. At that same meeting, they also announced that the 2018 World Cup would take place in Russia. These selections set off a new chapter in FIFA’s history, one where the public would have a greater sense on how bribery and corruption have a huge role in who gets to host this international sporting event.
The last 14 World Cup locations were decided by a group of 24 powerful men within FIFA called the executive committee. Their votes meant a lot to bidding nations and allegations on bidders bribing members of the committee lingered for decades. These allegations reached a new level when criminal investigations were launched nearly five years after that FIFA announcement. The fallout of these investigations nearly broke FIFA and tainted the World Cup.

it is corrupt though. did you just ignore the facts from the video? Qatar doesn't deserve a world cup if they're paying and bribing to do it. especially a country that has no football culture does not need to be hosting a football event when their own people have no interest in football. hosting it in egypt or turkey or morocco for example would all make much more sense because they actually care about football and they even have a chance to get picked without corruption and bribing

The bribe-taking and bribe-giving I think happened in New York City. Under Interpol rules, if a crime happens in U.S. territory and there is strong evidence--video evidence, witness evidence, etc.--showing said crimes occurred within the U.S., then the FBI and other U.S. authorities can then call for those alleged criminals to be hailed back to the U.S. to be tried in U.S. courts. All signatories to Interpol are allowed this privilege. So if criminals commit crimes on Swiss soil, and those criminals then escape to the U.S., then Swiss police authorities can demand that the U.S. hail those criminals and send them to Switzerland to bring them to justice in Swiss courts.
