thanks for taking care to speak clearly. it's professional, gracious for ESL viewers, and lets me watch at higher speeds
And you get extra info too! Eg. Tip #9.
bonus tip even for players in MR: take the throw when you’re in the corner. it’s not worth the risk trying to avoid 1200 dmg, rather than taking 2k-5k dmg trying to tech a throw. drive rush combos do dmg PLUS punish counter damage is insane. you gain. meter back while being thrown too. TAKE THE THROW
U have no idea I can’t get pass 1550. I take every shimmy lol😊
@@BalbuenaNYC who’s ur main? only asking cuz i finally broke the 1550 curse myself recently and finally playing at 1600 level💀
@@BlackWeeebI use sim. I just got to 1600 last week. Im back at 1550 lol

So weird I clicked on this random video. I played you on Sunday in a Custom Room. I use Chun Li@@BalbuenaNYC
I recently hit Diamond then went into an insane rut dropping all the way back to Platinum-4. I do 7/10 of these regularly. This is probably what I needed to hear today, so thanks.
Yipes said something recently that I super agree with - this is one of those games you shouldn’t play when you’re tilted. If you do find yourself losing a lot, especially to people you know you should be beating, it might be time to take a small break/walk/scream into a pillow
@@trillager8602 excellent advice mate. you can also rank with two different chars.
Don’t worry, with mindful practice you will get back up to diamond in no time. I’m glad this video is what you needed!
Yipes is a real one
The amazing thing about this is if you can successfully follow all of these, you effectively are employing a solid gameplan and your consistency will go wayyy up. 🤘🏿 You will become much stronger as you learn a few small things every single day you touch the game
Thank you for such a kind comment! Learning a few small things over and over will quickly add up and make you a better player!
These tips can be applied for other fighting games too, thanks Chris. Miss your KOF videos 😢
Thank you! If Hinako is good I’ll try her out and put something out for her
Super helpful video for a plat 3 player. Spoke directly to my current habits and gave me stuff to work on, which keeps me excited to play. Thank you!
Great to hear! I love that my videos are able to help people like you enjoy the game more. Keep it up!!
I was relieved to learn that I was doing okay. The only things I hadn't thought about before was the unnecessary side-switching and holding onto lower dmg combos to avoid burnout. I never stopped to think about burnout being that serious. Thank you for the perspective change.
Glad I could help! Burnout can be brutal in this game for sure. Thx for the comment
I’m glad to say a lot of what you listed are things I’ve already been thinking about on how to improve. I’m been bad about walking myself into corners as I charge Chun fireballs. Thanks for the video!
You got this! Thx for the comment!
Your cammy guides carried me all the way to plat 2. This one will carry me even further.
Great video as always. Looking forward to more great content. Thanks !!!
I love comments like this! Thank you! Happy I was able to help and I hope my future content does as well!
Awesome video man, keep it up. Settled into D2/3 and this is the kind of stuff I need to hear.
Glad I could help!
As someone who has been playimg since release I struggle with all of these concepts. The trickest part will be trying to fix them but i have enough time to do so. Thanks for all the viewer replay streams !
Just try to pick one or two concepts to work on at a time then move on to new ones once you’ve mastered them. I’ll have more replay review streams soon!
Really helpful. I gotta stop neutral jumping in the corner, of *course* there's very little benefit if it works! Why didn't I realize this! Thanks for a great breakdown.
Glad it helped! Thank you!
Great advice chris_F. Thanks!
Any time! Thx for the comment
Just wanted to let you know that I’m loving the content! Keep it up

not blocking and the high risk low rewards are the most helpful to me, thanx man

Really happy to hear I was able to help you with this video! Let me know if your gameplay improves after some practice, id love to know!
@@Chris_F The jumping out of the corner one helped me the most!! I honestly had no idea what to do in the corner, I always jumped straight up, and I just got messed up haha. I never thought of jumping forward out of the corner 😆

Absolutely fantastic video
Thank you very much!
Amazing work! You definetely should make a second video on that topic! Subscribing now.
Thank you so much for the sub! I plan on making a second topic about this but I need to watch more intermediate replays first.
Good tips. I have a lot of trouble using drive rush in general. I never know just when to use it from neutral. The worst is when I go for a low punch out of DR and it comes out is a DP.
try not to use it from too far away, it get's easier to defend from it. just throw some jabs and lows, move backward and forward to distract the opponent and then dry rush to keep them guesing; sometimes go for a low, others for an overhead and others for a grab.
If you’re getting a DP that means you’re hitting down-forward before your drive rush. Try to focus on going back to neutral before hitting forward for your drive rush
Thanks
No problem!
This video was great, here’s a thanks 🙏 wish I could make a video request on something like consistently serenity stance canceling, but all your tips are great
What do you struggle with during serenity stance? I can def go over it with you during my live stream
@@Chris_F no way really?
And I went into training yesterday and think it’s just an input error
I think I have a fundamental lack of understanding combos and managed to get to plat 4 with modern chun mostly with patience but I’d love to do the cool stuff haitani does
Absolutely! Send me a DM on twitter and we can get it set up
Top tier game per usual. Thank you.
Much appreciated!
Good video, I was definitely guilty or number 5, as I try not to go HAM and to play smart, I found myself in the corner often and getting randomized by throw loops and random players.
I’m glad you liked the video! Thank you
Another note about walking back into the corner, your opponent walks faster than you do if you walk backwards. So they can literally follow you with constant pressure
Yes! Thanks for mentioning this
These actually seem very logical and some of them do look like they can solve some of my problems. I'll definitely try them
Let me know if they help!
I always blanked when it came to how to try punish shimmy attempts, for some reason the low short didn't come into my head so thanks for that
lows with always catch ppl walking backward.
Glad I could help!
bro you need more views and subs. You are amazing
Thank you! My channel has been steadily growing so I’m just going to keep doing my best to provide the most helpful content I can
I don’t follow many FG CZcamsrs. Literally only Justin Wong, now you. Upon seeing this video, It’s criminal that you’re not AT LEAST at a million subs. Your videos are amazing. Started playing FGs seriously just tail-end of last year. Reached Gold 2 with Luke on SF6, a goal of mine considering I didn’t anything about FGs. Thank you so much for taking the time to type out such a kind comment! I’ll have more coming soon!
Agree with all of these, but I ain’t gonna stop going for high-risk options lol
Win or lose, if it’s fun I’ll go for it outside of a competitive setting
Whatever works for you, we all have fun in different ways. My videos are from a competitive standpoint but I understand that not everybody cares about that
I am stuck in Platinum for a while and I admit that I have made most of these mistake - also, it takes a lot of practice to implement them and other in-fight strategies.
Just pick one or two things to work on at a time. Once you’ve got them down, move in to a new one!
I've had some success jumping back vs grapplers by recognizing when their throw whiffs and immediately drive rushing as soon as I land, which results in an optimal combo in some situations, EG DR + Punish Counter St.HP then Cr.HP as Ken.
The upside is there's less risk they'll be able to pull off their anti neutral jump fakeout, the downside is if they late throw instead of command grab, you'll have lost a punish opportunity. I guess it all depends on the opponent.
Absolutely depends on the opponent, you pretty much nailed it and I couldn’t agree more. I find most intermediate players don’t have enough awareness to back jump and react which is why I recommended neutral jump
Pretty much, the risk reward depends on the options your opponent goes for. However, as for the more optimal combo, neutral j.hk actually does more damage.
If u keep jumping back on my zangief i would just SA1 you down.
KOF MUSIC! what a surprise mate! is it Arashi No Saxophone? "Cool Jam".-
Yup you got it!
Thx!!!
You're welcome!
Lots of g points, & a fairly short vid. Examples of #4 might be unsafe specials or DI, maybe.
Hope to get past the Capcom ID link error screen someday to try online & use these. Thanks.
With all the “so you’ve never played a fighting game in your life” guide content, some intermediate sf6 stuff is greatly appreciated
Do you mean my videos have been too beginner focused lately?
Not at all!!! I meant on CZcams in general there isn’t a lot of content geared towards intermediate players especially for sf6
Not neutral jumping in the corner blew my mind... I do that all the time thinking I'm going to land some big punish when I come back down...
Glad I could help! Neutral jumping is actually really risky at high level so it’s a good habits to break
Chris what do you mean by always buffer drive rush during combo? Are you talking about on hit or block or should I be looking for hit confirm. And I love your content thank you for your hard work
I mean in neutral.
Thanks for liking my stuff!
As a master rank player, the demonstration of drive rush pressure and neutral jumping vs vertical jumping really simplified the corner options for me. I used to way overthink it loll.
I had that problem myself until I took time to break it down. Thx for watching!
As someone stuck in diamond I'll take notes
I feel this, I’m stuck in diamond 2/3 rn. Honestly first time I’ve felt so frustrated with the game I need to take a break from playing
@@MrBones105 I been playing the battle Hub and aiming to fight va people with higher ranks than mine(ours) to learn a few things w/o losing points

@@Chris_F i definitely need to practice DR combos
Good comms, been stuck plat for a while now and most of these are (or not) in my gameplan.

Can you do a video on risk reward? Or do you have any currently and I just missed it?
I don’t have a video on that yet. I’ll talk about this during my next stream on Wednesday and I’ll try my best to do a video on this
@Chris_F Thanks man, appreciated!
honestly? i make a lot of these mistakes lmfao. good guide, you really cut me down to size XD
Glad it was helpful! Do some mindful practice and im sure you’ll improve in no time!
more please
More coming soon! I also stream on twitch 3x a week so check that out if you like!
Good stuff! One question on drive rushing on KD. Maybe this is a character specific thing, but I generally don't drive rush on knockdown against characters with OD DP (Juri, Ken, Ryu, Guile, etc...a lot of the cast) if they've plenty drive. I used to do it a lot as Manon and I personally find I just get OD DP'ed every single time easily on react, like it wasn't even something my opponent had to guess, all they had to do was look for the green flash and bob's your uncle. The only KD I could find from labbing and researching that was safe from this was from cr.HK (universal sweep), anything else seemed like was an easy gimme green flash react for my opponent if they weren't low on drive. Am I...doing this wrong? Cause now I just don't ever drive rush on kd unless they're low on drive or it's a character like Honda or Dhalsim where I don't have to worry about it...
You can do a drive rush then whiff a jab attack. That should give you enough time to guard and block, baiting their OD reversal for a big punish!
@@Chris_F ah, I haven't tried that, will give it a shot -- thanks for the tip!
I see so many people who walk themselves into the corner.
The reason I jump away from grapplers is that I'm trying to jump from a block position. My fingers are trying to be fast going to up back instead of up.
Go into training mode and set a grappler to do jab jab command grab then practice the muscle memory for neutral jumping
I'm not sure if you should always buffer DR after long range cancellable normals. Even if you have a lot of gauge. I feel like if you DR cancel a normal on block and your opponent takes the throw, they won the interaction. And I they DR cancel on my block when they are in the corner, I'm drive reversaling most of the time.
The best habit to form is to always drive rush cancel just outside of your effective range. This way, if you whiff punish an arm or leg you will always get the punish combo and if the opponent doesn’t push a button you won’t get the drive rush
Also good drive rush cancel strings will still give you time to block a drive reversal but this depends on timing and the character
I dont use drive rush.... AT ALL, because i already have ebought thing to worry about in this game. I recognize how strong the rush is, but the game can be quite mentally taxing already for add another layer of complexity.
Still love the game, and almost gold with Kimb, such fun character!
Drive Rush is basically The neutral in this game. At least use it to extend combos, if you're not using it to pressure your opponent, then you'll get used to it using it offensively.
with kim you should use it, she has no other way to get in at higher levels. good players will always punnish you teleport, your slide and you heavy kick. she only has DR to skip neutral.
If you play Kim, you must use drive rush lol
Yes, i know, but how to put it... my hand dexterity is not how it was any more, and i still like SF. if anything i am amazed to be so close of rank gold with kim of all characters
@@euroanez998 the time frame it's pretty forgiving and remember you have more plus frames after a drive rush. at the beginning just use it after OKI until you get use to the mechanic. having said that i dont think kim is a good char for beginners in SF6. ryu is a better pick imo.
1:07
alright I do wanna bring something out about this being the ONLY time you should use this. What about on wakeup when you know the opponent is going to grab or hit you and you don't wanna make that guess? If they block it, it's bad yeah. But again this is when you KNOW they'll do it.
I was very confused about ONLY OD version working on wakeup for a while as i'm used to anti airs being an at least alright wakeup option.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I meant to say that in the context of using it as an anti-air. It’s perfectly fine as a wakeup option
@@Chris_F Ah thanks for the response on that. You actually had me wondering for a while not gonna lie
facts
In regards to #3, if I'm in the corner in burnout you bet your ass I'm buffering Ken's level 1 SA as I wake with my eyes glued to my opponent ready to tap kick the instant they press a button.
Really though I do overuse it because of the side switch
It’s a good super!
Anti-air, frame-traps, consistency
All important!
I need tips on what to do *as* a grappler when players know to just jump out of everything, but I suspect the answer is "pick another character". :(
I’ll try to put something together about this once I’m done my current videos. You can always catch my twitch stream and I can help you there directly!
Currently at plat 5. Still watched this video, because im guilty of too many of these things. Lol.
I hope it helps get you stronger!
@Chris_F Thanks Chris. My goal is to hit "master" with Luke, (who I've been playing since the demo), by Evo.
I'm actually going there to compete in sf6. Do I expect to win it all? No, but this is a bucket list thing that I finally have the chance to do, so I'm going for it. I'm just looking to vibe with as many members of the FGC as I can.
My biggest mistake was picking Manon and trying to fight Chun-Li and Luke
Those are hard matchups but they aren’t un-winnable
@@Chris_F I won 8-20 😂granted I was drunk, I did learn a lot from fighting a Real Master Chun since there’s a lot of “youtube masters” that just started playing SF 2 months ago
I think one of the biggest one is random DI's. If you're winning I feel like you shouldn't risk doing random DI's since if it gets countered the round can turn the other way.
Very true and I totally agree!
You literally look like the gigachad holy moly
Haha thx! Best compliment ever
✌👏👏
I noticed i have a lot of those bad habits
Work on these and you’ll get rid of them! Also let me know how it goes, I’d love to hear your feedback
@@Chris_F thanks i need help developing a training habit that will get me past intermediate level
0:58 why shouldnt i use the heavy versions?
It has too much forward movement and it’ll cause your reversal to whiff
@@Chris_F true, in some situations it will land but i guess medium and light will be more consistent
i think if your opponent jumps and your in the corner its the best option and always seems to land from experience but even that could potentially whiff
Part 2?
I will make a part two, just need some more time
how does one buffer a normal cancellable drive rush
Push MP+MK right after you attack.
How do you buffer, something that is one input.
1. By staying outside of your attack range. If you whiff punish an attack you will always get a drive rush cancel with the buffer
2. By doing it in range, then reacting to hit/block during the drive rush screen freeze
I like 1, thats good advice. But 2 should not really be a buffer imo, its a hit confirm - not to be pedantic, but people need to not just mindlessly always press drive rush.
@theSaani depends on the button, most attacks don’t have a big enough cancel window to hit confirm into specials or drive rush.
Buffering drive rush is not that great. 3 bars for what is usually nothing more than a mix-up is terrible. I've seen so many people lose games over this, even in tournament
Depends on the situation, but I think it’s best used to catch limbs and get a high damage punish.
Number 3 doesn’t apply vs Manon lol.
If beginners and intermediate’s didn’t do this mistakes, they wouldn’t be beginners or intermediate’s lol
It’s ok to be beginner or intermediate. The goal is to never be stuck, and always improve even if it’s just a tiny bit at a time.
That’s why I make these guides!
This was great
Thank you!
You BrainF's brother or something?

1. Not playing Ken
Guilty
These are more like beginner tips
But if I burn myself to get that 40-60 percent.... I get to show off the fruits of training mode
-Low diamond Ken/Honda
I’m not saying to never do it, just speaking in general terms here. Pulling off what you practiced in training mode is impatient too!
