Actually, the main reason Hongo was out of the original show for a good chunk of it is because Hongo’s actor, Hiroshi Fujioka, got in a motorcycle accident that landed him in the hospital, so the writers came up with Ichimonji to take over for a while so Fujioka could heal.
Ahhh that was it, couldn't remember the exact reason for his disappearance while I was watching. Thanks

Did the manga version take that into account after the accident?
@@mb2001 in the manga hongo was put out of comission when he fought the 13 shocker rider's. as in they gunned him down ti'll he can no longer move his body, fortunately hayato arrived and defeated the remaining shocker riders. after that hongo remained as a brain in a jar for a while his body is getting repaired.
edit: also in the manga ichimonji broke out of his mind control/brain washing when one of the shocker rider's missed their shot and shot him on the head.
"Shocker" was just that in the original. For the Shin movie I think they added the meaning.
in the original shocker was a division nazi super science, while in this movie shocker is based on an actual irl cult plaguing japan right now called the Cult of Happiness which is currently under investigation by the current gov't aa they had found evidence of the said cult doing heinous things and where one of the reason's abe was shot last year.

still remains one of my favs. hongo's journey, ruriko's character, ichimonji saying "this mask feels warm" it all gets to me.
Kamen Rider #0 has been a codename for multiple Kamen Riders during development back in the Showa Era. It’s only until now that they decided to tie that name to an actual character

My main take on shin kamen rider is that, while it's not gonna win any oscars, I paid to see cyborg bug men fight and by god it showed me cyborg bugmen fighting, so I'm perfectly happy with the movie
It's a great Kamen Rider movie. I'd love to see a sequel to this.

well according to anno if the movie get's enough traction he will make a sequel shin Masque world. which is the title of the same kamen rider manga and focuses more on ichimonji's fight against a govt. controlled by shocker.
In the original 1971 Kamen Rider, Shocker was mostly based on a mix of both the yakuza and the nazis but in Shin Kamen Rider Shocker seems to be heavily based on the Happy Science cult a real religious organization that currently exists in Japan.
I love this movie, particulary beacuse the translation I saw said" This mask feels warm" which is way more adorable.
gonna be honest my biggest surprise was the goverment takin out Scorpio by themselves
This movie is a weird 9, have showed it to non toku fans and they got in to it, so by far the most successful shin movie yet(mainly beacuse the protagonist has an Eva´s Shinji vibe lol)
From what I read, Scorpion lady's role was cut down significantly because of schedule conflicts.

I get what you mean, but I kinda don't like how it was handled, one moment she was still in control of the situation, then we cut away from the scene and she's just dead off screen.
I'm shocked you actually hadn't watched it (- ^ ) This movie was great and those wide shots are gorgeous.

I remember watching this with my dad and when I ask him who his favorite rider is from all the ones i’ve shown him he always says shin Kamen rider
Basically like Shin Ultraman. This is just Anno indulging in his childhood.
Moreso here than SU. He wrote both, served as producer for both, even did some motion capture for both, but he only directed one of them while someone else directed Shin Ultraman.
This movie was such an Anno movie
Its Grey and bland and there is a lot wrong with the world and characters yet through it all the spirit of the rider shines through, there is a glimmer of hope and a sense of fulfilment to be hand and by the end we all have laughed and cried with the characters, its willed with tragedies and resolutions, some characters were given the chance to grow and redeem themselves and some was denied that, there's a lot of introspection and pondering, its slow and some might see it as boring but it has heart and soul
By the end, everyone we know ang love is lost, Ruriko who's been the main focus of this world died so suddenly, Hongo who we've followed all this time and who we have learned to love as he fights through his dilemma of killing to protect, he dies, completing the mission and although he did fail to protect Ruriko, he succeeded in protecting her will, at the end we were left with Ichimonji, Kamen rider 2, he started as a villain, he has more of a personality than Hongo and in fact he's a more fun character than him outright, when he became part of the team he was still entertaining, his personality has more bite compared to Hongo's bland justice, not saying Hongo is bad but Ichimonji has a better personality, he came in around halfway through the film and spent the good remainder of it contemplating until he decided to help Hongo, after Hongo died, the only friend he had up until this point, he was lost, and then he was given Hongo's will to protect, he is no longer alone, Ichimonji now fights for Hongo and protects humanity from whatever threat may come, and although the future is uncertain, the duo of Kamen rider Ichigo and Kamen rider Ni-go will always come out on top
Kezza fun fact Scorpion Augment is played by Masami Nagasawa the main actress from shin ultraman so if you think about it ultraman has his costar killed hehehehhe
Watching it in the Theatre really helps set the sombre mood of the Film.
The only gripe I have with the movie is the scene with Shocker Riders are too dark, I can't see a thing! Other than that the movie's perfect.
I watched it when it was released on Amazon in the US. I loved this movie, it is truly amazing
It was a really good year for bug deemed superheroes first my boy across the spider verse den blue beetle and now shin kamen rider Which is the movie I have not seen yet and this video has definitely make me want to see it even more

Same, also after watching Shin Kamen Rider I started watching the original Kamen Rider series from 1971 then after that I watched Kamen Rider Black, the three Kamen Rider movies from the 90s, Kamen Rider Amazons and now I'm currently watching Kamen Rider Black RX
Shin Kamen Rider Is Spectacular
I loved that I got to see this movie in theaters. I was hooked from start to end. I can’t wait for a sequel or the shin crossover when they make it
13:40 There's the original manga from 1971-72, and the Shin KR prequel manga in 2022(?)-23. Ichiro Midorikawa is not from the 1971 manga; he was created for this film, and the Shin KR manga follows his life before the present events of the film. That being said, it isn't the first time the Big Bad Rider was the eldest brother to a female lead in the KR franchise; it goes as far back as Kamen Rider BLACK from the Showa era.
Tips:
Ruriko said, "pain (辛) " and "happy (幸) " are almost identical when you write them in kanji characters.
As you can see, the difference is whether there is one horizontal bar or not.
And the name of Kamenrider No.2, "Ichimonji (一文字)" means the kanji character of " 一 " , one horizonal bar.
In other words, he is also someone who turns people's pain into happiness.
Just like S.H.O.K.E.R, but in a more correct way.

this kamen rider movie has a very strong evangelion feeling in it, because the director is also a creator of evangelion and huge fan of kamen rider and ultraman

Seeing this and the Five Nights at Freddy's movie were my highlights this year.
Personally, as a non-fan of the franchise, this movie feels a bit too much like a compilation film to me, all the enemies are kind too disconnected, while Shin Ultraman was also rather episodic, but Shin Ultraman feels more consistent with its escalation of plot.
I still enjoy it, but it just feels too much like it was originally a one season show cut into a movie somehow.
BTW, I really low the Shocker lackeys' design in this one, totally would buy that mask.

Make it a spy thriller and maybe set it in the 70s?

This probably won't be read, and i feel like others have already said it, but this movie is a mixture of the original 1971 show as well as the manga adaptation, which is much darker than the show. The fight with the 11 shocker riders(the evil riders) was original goings to be done in the rain like in the manga. The way Hongo survives is also a nod to the manga. Another thing, Im not 100% sure about this but i think kamen rider 0 takes some inspiration from kamen rider v3
Hongoes actor got in a bad bike accident so no.2 was introduced as a stand in until he got better

In the original show, Shocker is more like nazis. The wasp aug itself, is the one who uses the "German Gas chamber" in the slaves (yeah, they have slaves). The ending of this movie is the half story of the manga, but a bit diferent (is not hongo prana in the helmet, but the brain itself), so yeah... that makes me wanting a sequel.

Shin Kamen Rider is an awesome movie with a lot of awesome scenes and it is also a great movie for Kamen Rider fans but compared to the other Shin movies, it's one of my less favorites

It’s a hit and miss movie but it’s ok
This movie is a beautiful mess
The pacing was a mess, but man the characters especially the main trio are just loveable goofballs that I just want to give them a hug.
Though the movie has some great action, soundtrack and style... I'm rather cynical about it.
It is trying so hard at so many points, is so mean spirited at others and just ends in exoteric fanfic material.
I much more appreciate The First as a modern take on Rider 1...
