    As a cleaner, I've used a lot of different vacuums. I'm here online looking for vacuum tests, so I really appreciate that you gave a stab at objectively reviewing these products. That said, professional cleaners are often WOMEN. Most of the cleaners I know barely clear 5 feet tall. Strong ladies, but they still appreciate a vacuum that is maneuverable up, down, and ON stairs, therefore you can't underestimate the value of owning a lightweight but strong vacuum. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that men are the ones designing these behemoths. Bias is baked into the design. I just cleaned a house and ended up vacuuming for 30+ minutes. The thing I was judging was the condition of the carpet *over time*, maneuverability, and its weight. Those are completely different standards than the ones you've just offered. I could care less whether or not a vacuum picks up Cheerios. I can do that myself in 3 seconds. I use vacuums for jobs that a standard broom won't address.

    I have had to Orecks at home in the business I used to work at went through vacuum cleaners like a mad replacing one every six months. I love my Oreck so I recommend they buy the commercial model the price is great compared to other expensive ones. They are extremely durable especially when dealing with employees who are rough on equipment. This vacuum lasted for six years under heavy use at the store I worked at! For the money it’s worth every penny and totally made in the United States! I highly recommend this Oreck commercial vacuum!

    So, I was in need of an inexpensive vacuum to use to clean up shredded scratching post debris and scattered kitty litter in the foster room in my home. I don’t care to use my Miele canister for kitty litter. I picked up a used Oreck XL at my local vacuum dealer where I purchased my Miele a decade ago. I got it for 20 bucks… refurbished with a new belt and 6 replacement bags. While it is very loud I was stunned at how well it picked up the stray litter around the litter boxes on my hardwood floor without kicking it out the back. I was so impressed that I decided to do a quick run through my house to test it on my hardwoods and area rugs. Here’s what I love: There is no need to bend over and change carpet/flooring settings. I go from area rug to floors seamlessly. Also, the machine cleaned the area rugs great without sucking them up like my Miele unless it’s on its most gentle setting. The low setting on the Miele means the rug doesn’t get as clean. I love my Miele and the great attachments… but I’m thinking about getting a new Oreck upright because it’s faster to vacuum my home and comes with a much longer cord allowing me to clean a several rooms without unplugging. This thing is loud, not as pretty as my Miele, but it’s light and works great. Best 20 bucks I’ve spent in a long time.

      I have this model in this video, and I see that they can be bought for only $150 now...when I got mine about 3 years ago, it was going for $300-$350, I got mine slightly used though at a good price, so I couldn't complain. But for only $150 now, that's crazy. I'm wondering if they changed anything much.

  • @woofpuppy
    @woofpuppy Před 4 lety +2

    We use two of these daily at my restaurant. The intake between the brush and the fan CONSTANTLY clogs up and is difficult to clean. Both are broken after a year of use. There is a major point of failure between where the pipe (reaching from the base of the vacuum to the bag) and the base meet. The pipe on the bottom has cracked, and the base that the top ring twists on to to connect the pipe also breaks. This is on both vacuums, each being used for about 20 minutes per day, 6 days per week.

  • @dalex60
    @dalex60 Před 4 lety

    I use this model with the HEPA filter bags, and am pleased with the results. What most people don’t understand about Oreck vacuums, is that the outer bag which houses the inner dust bag, is part of the filtration system, and needs to be removed and cleaned on occasion. It’s a chore to do, and I only do it once or twice a year. I keep it, because it’s lightweight and easy for me to maneuver.

  • @graysonsvacsandmowers5426

    Although these old XL Classic style Oreck's weren't the most powerful of vacuums, they were still half decent machines that hold up pretty well as long as they aren't heavily abused. And I imagine this probably would have gotten a better score on the particle test if it had the HEPA bags installed. I would love to see in the near future if you tested either the Magnesium or one of the Elevate series.

    Having used both professionally I think the Riccar Suprlite is better, but Orecks have a lot of thought put into them. The Riccar is just way more powerful and for me parts are easier to come by.
    Also, that cover for the belt is due to the fact that the body of the vacuum isn't that strong, so you have to put on the base plate then put the belt on afterwards.

    Nice to see you using a particle counter for the filtration tests now! Much more accurate and can actually show some numbers to compare model to model now instead of a simple pass/fail like the previous testing method. Now you need to go back and update all your other vacuum tests lol.
    Are you going to test the sanitaire tradition series soon? Make sure you get a model with a DISPOSABLE bag instead of the simple shakeout style fabric bag only, they have MUCH better filtration!

    Orecks are good if you need a commercial vac that's easy to both use and service. They're limited to basic surface cleaning mostly on flat and low-pile rugs, but for many applications they make up for that for being light, cheap, and stupidly simple to repair. Like, the only vac I've had an easier time repairing was my Simplicity Freedom, which has a similar form factor but better overall performance.

    Since I have a Kirby an Electrolux and a Miele in the house for big cleaning days I purchase an Oreck XL nine years ago and it functions in my house like a plug in stick vac would in someone’s home. In that respect it’s a good machine at the right price as I’ve never had a sick vac last eight years before but as an only vacuum in the house it’s not capable of a thorough clean.

    So here is the thing about Orecks. They are very different then traditional vacuums and take some time to learn. After having one in my home for 8 years now. I can say it’s one of the best vacuums I’ve ever used. The first year I hated it. But once you get used to it’s quirks and how it likes to clean it becomes a muscle memory thing. It works way better then my Dyson ball multi-floor 2 on floors which I only have now because the hose power is so much better then the orecks non existent hose

      The higher end models use the same 4amp motor as the XL does as well as the same basic design. They have more features like multi speed motors. The big difference is really insubstantial in that they redesigned the base of the powerhead. Basically the difference is where the seems are so that the motor could be accessed from the top.

    I bought HEPA bags with mine straight away. I use it for routine vacuuming because of the light weight and use a more capable model for messes and large debris. I think the trade offs are worth it if you want it as a secondary vacuum or for a cleaning service.

    Oreck is the Kalashnikov of vacuum cleaners. Engineered to be affordable, simple, lightweight, reliable, without any BS, while being powerful enough to get the job done. And just like the Kalashnikov, you can equip an entire crew with vacuums for the price of one single Gucci vacuum. They are made to excel at one job: cleaning low pile commercial and hotel carpeting as cheaply and efficiently as possible. They are not an air purifier. They are not a sound dampener. They are not a shop vac. They are not a broom.

      @@VacuumWars the oreck elevate conquer but the command is the exact same machine as the conquer , the only difference is the conquer has a swivel and 2 extra years added to the warranty and 2 extra tune ups but other then that they're the same, in my opinion though i would kinda stay away from the control model (base model) because it has the same loud motor as the commercial oreck you tested and it only has a one speed motor to where as the command and conquer have a 2 speed slow start motor and its not great with hard floors .plus it doesn't have the lifetime belt or motor guard like the command and conquer do

    • @RyanBonetti
      @RyanBonetti Před 5 lety +1

      @@VacuumWars all of the orecks on the Platinum/xl21 platform will preform pretty similar, however they did redesign the base a bit in the elevate command and conquer and they seam to do a bit better if you have a mixture of floors. The command and the conq are the best oreck has to offer now tho

    It can pick up large debris if you lift up the vacuum.

    • @BuffaloNickel9
      @BuffaloNickel9 Před 3 lety +2

      Yep... and it's so light that lifting it up is no problem and on top of all that I honestly rarely come across a lot of large debris in the vacuum does well on dirt sand and pretty much everything you encounter in summary if you come across a Cheerio or to it'll normally pick it up but if not just lift it up and put it on top of it.. I agree with you and this vacuum is great for the house my mom loves her and always has compliments on how good the vacuum and looks on her floors honestly never have any need for a hose they're just a pain in the butt and they always fall off when while your vacuuming Oreck XL and all the other Oreck similar to this or incredibly reliable my mom had one for at least 16 years...
      And I really enjoy how they don't have hoses on them to get in the way

      And compared to the entry-level riccar commercial, the riccar is definitely a lot more durable and powerful. But if you're going to use it on hardfloor you would probably want to buy a soleplate with a squeegee for it as well.
