Had a friend loose his best horse that was gored by a longhorn steer. They were moving the herd and as he rode by the steer swung his head and gored the horse through the ribs and into his heart. Just missed the guys leg. The horse died right there. Pretty sad. Ryan, you were risking your life several times. Not worth it man! Longhorns are cool to look at, but I'd never own any.😂

My mother worked on an outback cattle Ranch working wild long horns,, she taught us lots of horse skills not found in normal English riding ..she also was the first lass to walk a horse up at Newmarket as she worked for John Penny when he was racing .(.later he was for years the voice of racing on uk TV..) I look at the cattle you are working and they look scary ..plus in a corral the danger must be More ..
Love your work , always learn something new ,, starting my last horse now ..as am @#$% years old..🐎👌💃🎵

Ik you probably won’t reply bc you have a lot of videos but I’m 12 and trying to train a 4 year old gelding I have him adjusted to halters lead ropes fly mask and allowing me to apply things to his body (mixtures to help with flys, since he’s allergic it’s really important) but I need help knowing how to teach him to be ok with fly spray, he’s very curious but spray bottles freak him out😅 also need a bit of help with teaching him to hold his hoof up for someone he lifts it up but won’t hold it very well. And last thing is how exactly do I adjust him to the weight of a person on his back
Ik this is a lot but it would mean the world to have some help!😅 Just some advise?😂

YaHOOOOO! Ride cowboy! What an opportunity! I've been to Fort Collins for hiking in foot hills. Visited some cattle fattening yards pre-shipping. Then went to learn horseback cattle gathering in Kiowa, CO with a cowboy church outfit I volunteered for. I was blessed to be on the most incredibly finished cattle horse I will ever ride. The memories will last the rest of my days. I was on top of the world ...living the dream for 3 days.

Good dog! I'm going to guess healer/border collie cross? And this certainly made me appreciate my old herd - black baldies out of Angus cows and a super gentle Hereford bull who'd been a halter broke show calf. No joke... He loved for anyone to sit on him and scratch his back. The herd was broke to the feed bucket. Just whistle, wave a feed bucket and you could lead them anywhere. Besides the cool look of the longhorns, I do think they forage better and are generally healthier than other bovines. My neighbor's longhorn bull has a really easy going temperament as well.

Many years ago, a small heard of buffalo decided to tour the area, by breaking down a 6 ft wood corral, and a couple of wire fences, and 3 of us were tasked with rounding them up. Lucky for us those beasts did not have a set of horns like those longhorns, but, it didn't stop them from trying real hard. My horse has walked past grizzly bears, big elk, and moose on 10ft wide trails between mountains, where there was no where to go with no fear, but did not want anything to do with those buffalo, even though he could outrun them. They were CRANKY, SNORTY, and charged everything. We finally drove them into a round pen built with 2 by10 spruce, and kept them running around the pen, until they changed their minds. The owners showed up with dogs, and bullwhips, and made short work of loading them up, and we spent the rest of the day repairing all the fences they broke. I don't think I would want to be on foot around either of them. They just don't care, and don't trust. Horses are such special animals, and after seeing those buffalo perform, makes me love them even more.

@@marycanary3871 ummm dehorning is actually to protect the stock too. A mild arguement with polled cattle can be deadly to at least one, or both of the combatants if they’re horned and at the least will result in vet bills. Most cattle these days are bred naturally polled, which means most won’t develop horns and debudding is only needed occasionally.
