  • The Czech Republic. A small, central European country of 10,5 million people. A country with a extremely dense rail network, yet no high-speed rail. In this video, we'll look at why that is, the plans for finally making it happen, and why it will probably take a while until the high-speed rail is done.

    Honestly when we'll get to 160kmph in Slovakia the rest of the Europe will be already driving 300kmph.

      We're now finally traveling to Slovakia in 160km/h, so this comment is a bit outdated, but I understand your point. Thankfully, the VRT project does actually seem to be moving quite decently now.

    thanks for letting me learn more about your country, i really liked the convenience of taking high speed rail when i can (unfortunately the malaysian government is terrible so im not taking the train to kuala lumpur anytime soon)

    I wouldn't trust Britannica's definiton: In the UK, the max speed of our trains in 125 mph (1 mph over the definition's requirements)

    nice video. I am from vienna and really love drum and bass, so I travel to you guys like 8 times a year :D We always travel with the rail- or regiojet form vienna to prague. I heard, the EU wanna increase the speed between vienna-prague-berlin, to cut it in half, but since the european announcement I heard nothing. Do you guys in the czech republich here some things about this project in your country or form your politicians?

      Well, high speed rail lines from the Austrian border to Brno, then from Brno to Prague, and then from Prague to the German border are planned, but they're not gonna be finished for a long, long time :(
      they're supposed to start with the first segment of the Prague-Brno HSR in 2027, but from what I've found on the Czech railway administration website, all 3 of these lines should be completed in the 2040s-2050s, which.... yeah 💀💀

      it's probably the car lobby (cars are the biggest export of the Czech Republic, by far), and just the lack of political will
      with energy, at least they're gonna expand the Dukovany nuclear power plant, so at least we've got that over Germany, we didn't shut our nuclear power plants down and so, we are not that dependent on Russian gas

      The same units are going 220 in Portugal, I was going from Lisbon to Porto and it really is the same Pendolino we have. I think they don't care much about some special infrastructure, track looked pretty ordinary to me, like some of our corridors, but instead of 160, it's going 220. 😀

      @@TheTramly traveling between different cities in north-west is not that bad, honestly, from karlovy vary to east it's always comparable time between car and train. only if you want to get from north-west to any other part of the country is when it gets painful. the routes are indirect because they all go through either Ústí or Cheb, which is why i think the HSR line to most is quite important. the north west is also i'm pretty sure the least developed region of czechia with the least work opportunities so the HSR could help that

    I though 160km/h was *kinda* high-speed rail. In my country (Belgium), 160km/h is the fastest regional rail.

    • @TheTramly
      @TheTramly  Před 9 měsíci +6

      160 km/h is definitely a good speed, it's faster than highway speed, but I'd consider "true" HSR to be 200 km/h or more. but that's just my opinion, to be honest

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin Před měsícem

      It's enough speed for regional trains in country whih has size like average potato (Belgium), but for trains crossing your country let's say from Germany to France (no WWII jokes pls), 160 is pretty limiting speed. But yeah, 160 is not bad when it's really going 160, but in reality, you stay in middle of nothing and wait because tracks are too bussy.

      It's just a small detail. And no. Our country is named both the Czech Republic and Czechia. Czechia is just a shorter name. I often hear about the Russian Federation and not just Russia, the Federal Republic of Germany and not just Germany, the French Republic and not just France,...
      Both names are right from every perspective and can be used interchangeably. So stop lecturing people.
