Tips for New SWTOR Players (Part 2)

- Have you already made your character and finished your first planet? These tips are for players level 10 and up who have reached the Republic or Imperial Fleet and are looking for new player tips about SWTOR's gearing, crafting, strongholds, flashpoints and more. These tips are specifically for players starting in 2017 and 2018.

#40 If your companion dies in combat, just dismiss them and re-summon them - it's quicker than reviving them and healing them.
#41 Companion gear doesn't matter - it's just for looks and won't make them stronger. A companion's strength is based on their Influence with you, and grows when you bring them along for conversations, crafting, and by giving them companion gifts.
#42 As you quest you'll pick up items along the way - some of them will be trash that is meant to be sold to a vendor for credits. All vendors have a button you can press to quickly "sell trash"
#43 You can also send your companion to go and sell trash for you, instead of having to wait until you are near a vendor if your inventory is starting to get full. Right click your companionâs portrait to send them to sell trash.
#44 If you're on a free to play account, you'll eventually reach the credit cap of 200,000 credits. Any credits you earn beyond point that get stored in your escrow - you don't lose them, but you can't access them until you subscribe. Don't worry though, you probably won't even come close to this cap until level 40 or higher.
#45 There's not a lot to buy with credits while you are leveling up - I recommend saving your credits for later either to buy nice looking cosmetic items or useful unlocks. Due to their restrictions and credit cap, free-to-play players can only access a few of the special legacy unlocks. These legacy unlocks require a specific legacy level - as you plan any of your characters on your server, you contribute towards your shared legacy level. Legacy levels donât come quickly, especially for free to play players - for example, at level 31 Iâm still at legacy level 1. The unlocks I recommend players save up for and eventually buy are:
Under Character Perks in the Legacy Panel, these perks apply only to your individual character...
- Basic Field Repair droid for 50,000 credits at legacy level 5 so you can sell stuff and repair your gear on the fly
- A Field Mail Droid, which also costs 50,000 credits for legacy level 10 and allows you to access mail wherever you are
- Field Respec which costs exactly 200,000 credits and allows you to change combat proficiencies on the fly at legacy level 10
There are a lot of other really useful unlocks, but they arenât accessible until later legacy levels or are very expensive and new players likely wonât be able to unlock the mfor a while.
#46 If you are on a free-to-play account, you may pick up cool pieces of purple-bordered gear that say they require artifact authorization to equip - you can not equip it unless you are subscribed or have purchased the expensive artifact unlock. The good news is you don't need great gear to do your class story - you can choose to sell that purple-bordered item or save it for if you subscribe later.. but you'll likely out level it quickly.

You've put tons of work in this and these tips and hints are gold for newbies to the game. Great work.
As a SWTOR player that has played for 3 years i'd say it's definitely worth playing.
But if you believe it's free to play, you're gonna have a bad time.
Why is that? The game is F2P, its just that a subscriber gets more goodies available to them.

I've played SWTOR on and off for 3 years, and even i didn't know some of these things. I never knew the PVP introduction quest gave free relics and earpiece!

Great video. Couple footnotes: Some Scavenging skills can enable shortcuts like opening doors/gates, calling elevators and shuttles (ie. Archeology, Scavenging, Slicing). And, unchecking Flashpoints may be best done AFTER collecting the daily/weekly bonus which requires all flashpoint be checked to qualify for them.

Ive been playing since 2013, and i just found out armor on compainos dosnt matter.. i was so used to give them what i had gotten after i got something better... am a baka

I love upgrading weapons and armor the starter lightsaber can be the most OP if you constantly upgrade it at lvl. 18 my lightsaber did 105 dmg.

Itâs interesting looking back at how the game used to be.
I mean I started with Swtor back in its beta so all this stuff is stuff I remember but itâs all changed so much when I come back to it now in 2021, it also makes me wonder how much it will change as time goes by (assuming it last as it used to be unheard of for a MMO to last 10 years, heck Magic the Gathering didnât even make it out of beta before it closed)

If you have level 50 comp and are double DPS-ing. use your companion Quick Bar and let them initiate combat. They will draw the aggro and let you focus on your rotation. They will have a ridiculous amount of health compared to you. As SWTORista said, if they get down to 2% health after the fight, dismiss and recall or mount and unmount and they will have full health.
I haven't played since 2016, but not gonna lie, I'm jumping back in thanks to the resurgence train by The Mandalorian and Fallen Order. I never finished the Bounty Hunter questline so now feels like as good a time as any to brush up on some basics and come back to the Old Republic

I like to point out that the skills trainers even tho they are not picked also give points just for visiting them. Or, pick up the skill quest and decline all, then go back and pick your 3/2/1 skills.

Merry Christmas Swtorista, and thanks for the nifty tips! Its also worth mentioning that for strongholds, you can get a wall safe that acts like a personal bank for a bargain of 15k credits from the security key vendor, particularly useful for non-subscribers!

Great video as always Swtorista & once more Merry X-mas & Happy Life Day. I got a problem with the Galactic Datacron Master title a few weeks ago I finally got the last ones on Rishi and only got the Datacron Master for Rishi, but not the main one Galactic Datacron Master even though I got them all and my Legacy Achievement as all of them mark, later I discovered that two of the Planets' Makeb & Belsavis weren't counted. I took my main Merc from the Former Shadowlands now Star Forge back to Belsavis to back track and doublecheck & once more already had them even the shard one at the Tomb and the two 10+ Datacrons I got them finally this year after years of trying to get those two. I tried to back track the hardest one the Endurance, but after a few hrs. got tired of falling to my death trying to rush to it. but my legacy achievement as the date, but as I mentioned the overview clearly says I need those two. I posted a thread in my swtor account, but so far no reply. have a good Life day and Happy New Year's.

There is so much stuff I'm missing out in this game, it's ridiculous.
Great videos. I've been playing for about 6 months and barely scratched the surface of what you can do in game. One question I haven't fount the answer to yet and that is how to acquire or craft augment kits and augments. Do you cover that in any of your videos?
I don't really have a guide on it sorry. But you can craft quite a few augments straight from the crew skills trainer as you become a higher crafting level. same with the kits. or the gtn.

I was going to ask what or where could I find a good guide to outfit my character's if I am preferred. Oh one thing I noticed when I was subbed I was able to outfit my trooper in the tier one outfit from the vender (entrnal commando). But she is still have to wear it (i left it on her) after i went back to preferred.
From what I understand if you had gear equipped before, you mostly can keep it if you unsub later as long as you already had worn it. But new gear you can't wear without artifact authorization.
