    Finding games for the original PlayStation has been my big focus this year, so it's pretty neat to see you find quite a few in this episode. Longbox games are a special curiosity; I took them for granted for a time and even took to disliking them (because they took up extra space) back in 1995-96, but I've warmed up to them since.
    Thanks for putting together another fun episode!

    Always awesome to see a new Flea Market Madness.
    I don't have any outdoor flea markets near me, but couple miles further into the town where I live, there is a brick and mortar style flea market. I only go their on rare occasions, because I rarely find anything. Up until last weekend, the best thing I found there was a GBC version of Frogger in an original plastic cartridge case for a $1.50.
    But last weekend, I and a couple friends went there and, in the basement section of the place, I was passing by a small rolling bookshelf that was loaded with random items, but noticed on the middle shelf sat a loose Model 1 Sega Genesis. It was a surprise to me because I had never seen one in person as everybody I knew as a kid that had one, had the Model 2 version.
    Of course, I wasn't expecting to find that it had everything with it, but I pulled it and all the cords and such up to the top of the bookcase to find that it had the power adapter and RF cord, two original Model 1650 controllers, and in the cartridge slot sat Sonic Spinball. Considering the item and the typical pricing of old items in my town, I was expecting higher than eBay prices, but the white lot sticker on the side of it said 25 dollars. I immediately said, "Mine!", and grabbed it.
    Took it back up to the register, and it turned out that they were giving everybody 10% off, so after taxes I got myself a perfect working Model 1 Sega Genesis with two controllers and a game, for $24.08. As much as I love the two retro game stores in my area, I wouldn't get such a deal from them. And looking at eBay, it appears that I saved around 10 to 15 dollars.
    I already had a couple boxed Genesis games from random eBay game actions, so now I have the system so I can truly start my collection.

  • @HeyShnubby
    @HeyShnubby Před 9 lety +3

    All of these prices that are being claimed as "too high" would be absolute steals here in the UK! It's so much more difficult and expensive to collect retro video games here!

    • @AlexLintonUK
      @AlexLintonUK Před 8 lety

      A problem with sellers here is for example on PS2 games most people will ask £1 a game but in the US $1, because it is a nice figure but £1 is worth more.

      Deathbrewer I'd say that is part of it but I'd say even more so it's guys born in the late 70's/early 80's who grew up on the nes/snes approaching middle age and looking to collect and play some games from their childhood. A meeting of two opposites exploding the market really.

      skabcat242 never buy your kid something new when they got something expensive already, especially not selling that first thing cuz of the second thing
      i only had NES,SNES,N64,GB+GBC,GC,GBA,and wii and also had PS1 and sega mega drive (genesis in america.... they love making same things with different looks and/or names), but never did my mother buy me a SNES and i was like: sell this, i want sega genesis (mega drive here)
      she bought me all that, but 1 at a time, as i never had much money

    You can get even better deals at garage sales, except at garage sales, you never find games for anything pre-2000. I've purchased loads of Xbox 360 games and a few Nintendo Wii games, including Elder Scrolls III, Fallout, Gears of War and loads of Lego games, all for less then $2. At one sale, I purchased six Xbox 360 games for $5.00. I purchased factory sealed copies of Diablo 3 and Lego Batman for one or two dollars.

Both at a Flea Market. I saw a Neo Geo at my neighborhood Flea Market, but i could tell the dude knew nothing about video games because he priced the damn thing at $120. The other was an NES Top Loader with Super Mario Bros 3. The guy priced it at $70.

      @codedthreat5981 Před 9 lety

      Shockwave Dude, that place is awesome. I live in Pa not too far from there. It is a great flea market and the stores do have some great pricing on their stuff (I believe the last time I was there, there were actually a couple VG stores in there). It is not exactly yard sale cheap, but still way below most reseller pricing. There are also a few little hole in the wall stores around the area that sell D&D and MtG stuff, but they also have older systems and games, they are usually a bit more expensive, have some uncommon stuff but still not a total rip off. So keep an eye out for those if you do come back to the area. Good hunting! =P

      Yea, the prices over here are much better than over on the west coast it seems. Also don't forget that you can haggle a little with the people there on pricing. They do drop prices, especially if you are buying multiple things or they remember you. It is why I always talk to them for a bit and try to get down there once a month or so, even if just to look around.

      Preemie Maboroshi but it has terrible gameplay and poor hit detection.

    I dunno about that PS2 claim. I mean the console has nearly 2000 titles and in DVD cases as opposed to the cardboard boxes of old. So long as people don't use the discs or cases as beer coasters (Except all those old sports games nobody can get rid of), I think they'll be around for a VERY long time...

      NES games are also built to last I watched a video where this girl subjected them to the most insane harsh treatment and most of the games would still work. He means the quantities will dwindle over time especially the more rare titles like what happens to everything as more of it moves into collections attics in a house or just happens to be thrown out etc...

      Blu Ray games will last. Scratch resistant unless harshly treated.

      Perhaps but it remains to be seen if the PS3 will top the PS2's lifetime and titles records...

      They'll be hard to find like all games end up. Kids who were 7, 8, 9 at the time and grew up with the consoles, will likely want them again when they reach their 30s and 40s, etc... Just like what has happened with NES, SNES, Genesis, etc... Same thing happens with old toys.
