- Recently we had the opportunity to take part in a debate at The University of Cambridge.
The debate was regarding youtube and essentially aimed to answer the question Will CZcams over take TV?

Seriously? Of course, they aren't the same he's taking a different path right now. They aren't meant to be funny? They're informational and cater to people who want to discover new things. He loves filming and filming is not just sitting behind a camera and eating bad baby food. It's showing different perspectives. He wants more. Support him or go find a youtuber who entertains your needs. It's a click away and leaving negative comments won't get you where you want to be any faster.
EXACTLY. He grew up. He's doing awesome, creative, and inspiring things. He's not 20 years old talking about "types of people in high school." He's doing great things.
Well i think i dont know he its not more funny o is but not too much but youtube is another social media to shear your apinion about some topics and stuff he only post random things that he thinks help and inform the society XD however is my opinion about his chanel

Kyndal Harp Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think people that still do silly things just for entertainment just haven’t grown up. If that’s their thing, fine. But Jack and his family are a hugely talented and creative family. As a creative, he wants to use his skills and creativity to bring light to issues he cares about such as global warming. He is 27 now, he has to grow up someday and it’s not fair for some people to assume that he will never change. As I recall a saying, change is the only constant in life, accept it.
I dont want youtube to be a dominant form of media because i would rather keep the youtubers to myself for selfish reasons of course. sorry jack

Lizzie Monsreal Yes! And it's not because we don't want to spread the CZcams awesomeness, but we feel kind of special... the content made by all the youtubers it's done having the susbcribers in mind (no matter if are a lot or just a little).

These two are going to school. Just reminding you people. It is not easy to juggle everything at once, especially when school is a major factor. The projects that Jack and Finn are partaking in is really admirable. It goes to show that they are not trying to be the cliche youtubers but actually two boys who are trying to make a change in this world or help out in some manner. That is a really mature thing to be doing at such a young age. Also, I definitely do not think that these two are leading a 'mediocre' life. They are obviously quite busy, running from one thing to the next. Just because they don't film every second of everyday doesn't make them boring or simple. I think you two have a lot to be proud of Jack and Finn! :)

I feel like his content now actually has meaning behind it. It isn't silly videos anymore it has thought behind it and causes chain reactions whether that's for a charity or inspiration. These videos aren't just videos that are simply watched and enjoyed they are videos that do something and have an impact.
***** what's changed is that his channel is not anymore about him, but about his films; Jacksgap has become the media where Jack, Finn and the rest of Jacksgap gang share their content, read the new banner. I think it's fantastic, i really like the fact they are sharing their passion with us. Someone once posted "My poetry blog is more personal than my personal blog," what i mean by showing this example is that when sharing our projects, writings, and films, we say more about ourselves and the way we see the world, than when we say things sitting on front of a camera doing tags, jokes, or even -talking- about ourselves. when someone shares something very intimate, like it is sharing your poetry, or your own films, in a way it makes you feel closer, because they are taking a risk, they're are putting something that is theirs, that came from their inner selves, in a place for everyone to criticise it and share their opinions about it, and everything that people say is not directed to the "project itself" but directed to the creator, and its creativity, opinions, and sense of life. If someone knowing this still has the courage to do that, i appreciate it a lot, because is a deeper connection, ya feel?

Jack and Finn are clearly perfectionists, it may take a while for them to upload a video, but when they do it's certainly worth the wait. Wow. It's now 00:13, I've been subscribed since yesterday morning and I can say I've watched every single video on this channel in a single day. I just loved seeing Jack and Finn evolve through these last years. You both started as inexperienced teenagers and you're now young adults who seem to have seen and lived a lot of amazing stuff. Your videos make me want to travel around the world and make changes around me. I went through many emotions while watching these. This definitely became one of my favorite channels on CZcams. Keep up the good work, this is amazing.
I absolutely love CZcams but I hate the idea of it being the dominant broadcasting medium. CZcams has already got to the point where giant companies and corporations are trying to worm their way in and I just worry that even more success for CZcams makes it a profitable target for people who don't understand it. CZcams should always be about normal people with a camera, ever since money was introduced into CZcams it has already become full of people try to cheat, lie and shortcut their way to the top, bring in more money opportunities and I don't see it being a good thing. This is all speculation though.

If it does become our main source of media I do hope we can keep it raw. Big companies can come in and take over, but we the people are watching it. We all have a voice. We are the creators, the commentators, the ones who share the content and without us CZcams isn't sustainable. Just as TV isn't sustainable without the views.
I don't even watch tv anymore CZcams is all I watch and TV is so old I honestly think broadcasters will move to Internet as it is used more and more through out
I think it's a matter of content on television is not as interesting to you as content you choose to watch on CZcams.

I rarely comment, but I have to say that this is just awesome. I really enjoy the new direction you are taking Jack! It is (and has always been) obvious how much work and thought you put into the editing and creative ideas behind your videos. I don't think it's boring, I look forward to you "just sitting there and talking" haha. And thanks for the advise on just putting your creative material out there - that's definitely something I needed to hear myself :)

Speaking as someone who uploads videos on CZcams, my argument is slightly biased toward the internet. The reason television is seen as a better medium of entertainment is that it's more established and that you're usually more comfortable when watching it (rather than at a computer). However, with the advent of internet televisions, CZcams could overtake mainstream entertainment in popularity. This probably won't happen though,at least not for a good number of years as the ease of access on standard TV is a whole deal, well, easier. You don't have to search and find the video you're looking for. However, CZcams does give the viewer a lot more freedom in how and when they watch. TV is like VHS and CZcams is like DVD - it's just the evolution of entertainment. Don't know how to wrap this up, and I've already written too much, but, yeah. Das wut I tink innit.

Sabrina Suminski The thing is, this same argument was held 50-60 years ago about radio - the previous dominant form of entertainment - and television. And look at radio now, it's still around and whatnot but it's nowhere near as popular.
CZcams is acually like TV to me. I used to always watch TV but ever since I made a CZcams account its like a better TV to me. Just an opinion

Right what i believe is that CZcams will never overtake tv and tv will never overtake CZcams. THEY ARE DIFFERENT THINGS. You also have to remember that TV is locked in to contracts where as CZcams, well it could be all switched off with one button people loose interest easily where as TV will always be TV and will always be there. I know CZcams is a great place but there are some things that could go wrong! I hope CZcams can become a much more stable environment for content creators like myself so we don't have to worry about one day everybody loosing interest.
This video was unreal, amazingly edited and the footage was perfect. To top it all of the actual content was brill. Well done!

CZcams needs to stay relatively small in order to function as it is, it is free, uncensored and the best part of all is that it allows anyone to succeed with only one skill - hard work. If it takes over TV the population will be so big that advertising and money will reign over creativity and inspiration, plus the chances of actually succeeding become slimmer and slimmer - which really ruins the magic of this great site.
Keep it small - keep it cool.

I believe they'll be a shift when it comes to the talent's relationship with the audience. Nowadays, people prefer following a personality over a product of traditional media. The social platforms on the internet allows a much more intimate communication between both content creators and audiences. CZcams has obviously evolved into something that encourages the growth of a community throughout the internet. However, I do not believe that CZcams would be able to do so without the help of other social platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr... That said, I do not think either will take over one another. But content delivered online might...
I personally prefer that CZcams stays as it is. I really enjoy how independent and community driven it is. Even if most of us content creators would like traditional media to respect us, I still want it to stay "small" and not this huge corporation.

I agree with you, Jack. CZcams and T.V. are two completely different platforms. There really isn't much sense in comparing them. However, I do believe that in the past 2 years or so the CZcams community has grown drastically and will continue to grow because of the amazing content being produced by lovely CZcamsrs such as you and Finn, and many others. I personally watch videos on here as much as, or even more than, I watch T.V. But I do love both platforms of creative content and will always support them both.

I completely relate to the feeling of 'starting fresh', trying to move on to a new phase of life and trying to grow as a person, I've loved your videos from the start and I honestly love the direction the channel is going!
Also I believe CZcams has a bright future, even if it never replaces television completely, the ease of viewing 4-5 minute videos is something our fast-paced world will appreciate for years to come. The diversity of content on CZcams is insane, it's truly changing the world one cute cat video at a time :)

What is TV? It is the box on which you watch shows being broadcast, is it the programs being broadcast, or is it the conduit between the programs and the box? I have reached a point where I think of CZcams as a _part_ of TV because I think of TV as the collection of programs I watch on my screen. I don't foresee CZcams becoming dominant, but I do see it as a vital part of TV's future. It will have a place for most people alongside their traditional broadcast/cable programming and their subscription video services. In that way, CZcams will help TV become a far richer experience for more people than it ever has been because it is the way that the average person can get their vision onto other people's screens, and we've never had an unfettered means for one person to reach another person's screen before.
Oh yeah like the smart tv you can also watch youtube on there but its still tv

As to the argument TV and CZcams *are* quite different things and I think they draw people for those different things usually. I don't know how to exactly compare them since they apply to separate things in my mind I do think that CZcams is getting steadily bigger :)

CZcams and TV are for two completely different things. Not to mention the budgets are also completely different, and an average teenager can't exactly start a TV channel or make a show like they can here on CZcams. One will not take over the other they will both simply co-exist
The whole videos on demand ( Netflix, CZcams etc.. ) and not having to wait for schedules is definitely going to be challenging Tv in the next few years. Great video guys, hope you had a great Birthday so far!

The only way CZcams will be dominant in the future is in user-created content. You can't compare CZcams to Television. They are two different things. So CZcams wont be dominant over every broadcasting medium, but it will be dominant over internet broadcasting and user-created content.

The editing + style of this video was wicked! So inspiring. Like Smay Prangley said I think its a generation thing too. The younger kids who have/are growing up with youtube will probably see it as a dominate medium as opposed to TV. A lot of flats these does don't even have a cable subscription let alone a tv bc, we sort of just feel like we have access to everything online and its so much easier that way! I don't think TV/Film will necessarily die out though, just bc, like you said they're all for different things.
