  • The effect of concussions and head knocks over Gordi Kirkbank-Ellis’s decades-long sporting career isn’t immediately obvious. That is, until you see what’s happening to his brain. These MRI scans show Gordi’s brain is shrinking. The deep valleys in Gordi’s brain have widened and filled with fluid. Decades of head impacts are the suspected cause. Gordi has suspected CTE, a life-changing and controversial diagnosis dividing brain specialists.

My neighbour was Paul Green when he was young…he went to school with my daughter…when he took his own life we where shocked…my daughter went to his funeral and it was so sad…after they released the results that he had CTE my daughter said maybe he suspected he had CTE and was trying to protect his family from witnessing his decline..who knows…but with Wally Lewis confirming his possible diagnosis isn’t time it is made compulsory wearing of headgear regardless of the footy code. Mario Fenech is suffering early onset dementia and he believes it’s from constant head knocks too.

      Headgear doesn't help.
      Prevention is the only way.

seconding the other person saying headgear doesn't work for this. the brain is hitting the skull, even in a helmet. in the best helmet in the world even.
prevention is the only way. some sports aren't meant to be played. taking repetitive hits to the head, even without a concussion, can lead to cte.
some sports shouldn't be played. some sports need major rule adjustments.
it's not a matter of equipment. all that talk is distraction bc the truth is harder to accept and isn't what people want to hear.

I was friends with a member of a family which saw two brothers play professional NFL Football, with the 3rd playing for a major Big 10 University. program. All died young and had CTE. I won't mention the family out of respect for their privacy.

Overactivated Integrated Stress response leading to loss of protein production quality control.
    Similar to dementia.
Viral infections, extreme stress, or repeat concussions contribute.

It probably can, CTE happens from the stretching of the brain usually from front>back or back>front so yes it could probably stretch your brain

it won't cause CTE, but technically it moves the brain slightly, if you bang your head moderately and not all day aggressively, it won't cause a problem. I've already come back with headaches and a bad feeling inside after many hours of headbanging at extreme metal festivals, today I do this much less because I know it's not good to shake your head too much and I would even say we should worry not only about sports that cause a direct impact on the head, but also fights, running of football, which require stepping firmly with the impact of the feet on the ground, jumping and hitting with the feet, arms and legs, or falling with the backs too or spining and so on, all of this leaves anyone slightly stunned afterwards, because it moves the brain inside, very delicate.

Scans of the brain can show shrinking and tests can show certain proteins and markers for the disease but it can’t be 100% diagnosed until postmortem. I think they’re almost there.

They need to find a test just like Lyme disease to find out if you have CTE or not. There is no test until death and examination. Just like Lyme disease the bio weapon that I got that ruined my life 14 years ago completely disabled me unable to do anything but the med bed is coming along with Psilocybin which I have been Microdosing every day saving my life from that Bio weapon line disease
