The man in the paintg is Buchanan, James's tutor and teacher who physically abused him for years. Buchanan was a staunchy republican puritan so he dediced to teach to his pupil "to be humble" and he did it beating a child almost every day, a child with a crown but still a child. When he was already king of England James met a man who looks like Buchanan... and he was so traumatized that he started to tremble.
James's breakdown has a sense for him: his father was murdered, his mother sent away, his uncle killed and he saw his grandpa being massacrated in front of him... when he was 5.
He wanted to protect George by putting him on "the children table" so the Scottish thought he was only a flirt, but George didn't know about his traumas so he fucked up.

James recovering his love’s heart to bring it home with him was truly romantic. I too had a love who had cancer and gave me her hair. She really was the first real relationship I had. So I can relate to James on that spectrum. My heart honestly went out to John who was a troubled and wonderful boy who unfortunately didn’t have the support he really needed at the time. Can’t wait for more reactions!

I've been watching slowly but i really love its sexy and dark and historicaly it got king u can clearly see he has abondemnt issues form losing his parents at Young age especially knowing his Mom was exacuted
Most important when he was 5 his granpa was killed in front of him. He saw ol'Lennox being stabbed and then trow away from a window, it's traumatizing for a grow man but for a child... He never fully recover from ALL his traumas

also um this why i hate mary 😭😭😭 cuz like she is the epitome of what women especially during that era had been put through, and she just did the same shit to someone else for her own good. yah no surprise John's marriage turns out be awful........ almost as awful as her own marriage......she could have taken care of john without getting him married, she ended up doing that anyways.
