- Simone Biles is giving back to her gymnastics family. The Olympian surprised teammate and fellow gold medalist Suni Lee's father with a heartfelt gift. The "Today" show helped Simone present John Lee with a brand-new electric wheelchair this week, and his reaction to the heartfelt gesture was priceless. John was paralyzed from the chest down after falling down a ladder in 2019, just two days before Suni competed in the World Championships.

It’s ridiculous that this electric wheelchair amongst other VERY BASIC HEALTH NEEDS is unattainable to most of the US because these hospitals, insurance companies, and big pharma care more about turning a profit than taking care of the people. I think Simone is a great role model and wonderful example of young black excellence, and refreshing philanthropy. Personally, I’m a huge fan but I said what I said!

Some people will always dislike what makes the majority of us smile and feel good. It's mind boggling. There's also people that will never forget what Simone did at the Olympics, because they can't read, and/or refuse to believe in the very real phenomenon of "the twisties." They'll downvote anything having to do with Simone... because she DIDN'T go out and break her neck.
Let them hate because that is all that they can do. While some of their hate may have bothered her a little, she has not and will not let them stop her. They were never her fans to begin with nor real supporters of the US Olympic team.
There is no denying her abilities as a gymnast or that she is one of the best in the sport. However many people feel as though her choices during the Olympics were confusing and felt let down.
At first it was no people in the stands that was throwing her off...then the twisties....then her Aunt dying a few days before she competed.
I have been a competitive gymnastics coach for almost 19 years and I can tell you that anyone truly suffering the twisties doesn't come back to compete on beam. Where focus and balance are paramount.
There was definitely something going on but in the end it was her decision.
Die hard athletes will tell you that you "never give up" and they are probably the ones giving a thumbs down.
Sometimes I honestly think people just miss the like button. Or maybe it's just me and I am always so happy when I check back and find my mistake. I can believe that about 1/1000 looked are clumsy 😄

So happy to see this special friendship.Sorry to learn this sad news about Suni's father. Kudos to Simone. I wound up in a wheelchair when I fell down at a retreat in India. I had to rely on so many to push me around and only for 2 weeks. He gets around by himself but it must be exhausting so this upgrade is truly a blessing for him.

To be fair Suni just became famous. She doesn’t have anything close to what Simone Biles has as net worth. Even with the money coming in for Suni that chair would be a significant investment for her… where for Biles it’s probably like buying a nice recliner.

Unless you actually have a loved one who uses a wheelchair, you can’t fathom how expensive these electric chairs are. My daughter has a custom build MANUAL chair and it was $20,000. These custom electric chairs are easily $35,000. It’s a very generous gift. However, it is physically impossible to go out of the house unless you have a handicapped accessible ramp van. Those wheelchairs weigh about 300 pounds and they do not fold. They only way to transport this chair is with a tie down van. Those cost $90- 100,000. The next step would be to start a gofundme to buy Suni’s father a van.
