  • In this video I show you how to tie a soft hackle mop fly pattern. I was a bit skeptical of mop fly patterns in the past but recently this one has been working really well for me. I encourage you to try tying it in different colors like green and pink. Let me know how it works for you!

    Thanks for the tying & fishing videos on mop flies. My luck with mop flies has been hit & miss, but, like you pointed out in the fishing video, you need to have the pattern tied on to catch fish with it. I tied up a few, but substituted a partridge feather as the soft hackle, and omitted the rubber legs.

      Sounds like a winning combo to me. I think they are a bit hit or miss on most days, but if you hit it right it’s killer

    I like this version of the mop fly over many others I’ve watched thus far I haven’t tried them yet but getting very frustrated watching a lot of fly fishers on my local waters in Upstate NY slamming trout on them. Especially like the way you added the rubber legs and collar. Very nice buggy looking touch! I really need to tie and get some wet! Nice video! Thanks!

    New to your channel and new subscriber. You have a very nice well rounded video selection not often scene. This will be a new pattern for me, though fly fishing for over 20 years now. Here in Southern Italy, I’ve never seen it used and curious to give it a go this year when the season opens. Gotta tie some first; hence your video. Thanks for sharing!

    Thanks so much Zach for the "recipe"!!! Where I fish here in Spain there mops are very usual and irresistible for trouts. But I was expecting to tie them myself. I like your version with legs and collar!

    Thanks for the variation. I don't know why people don't like the mop fly it is almost the mirror image of the maple syrup nymph that was the rage a few decades ago.

      Yeah I guess it’s not a traditional enough fly 😂

    Sweet video I enjoyed it. When do you use a dubbing loop over putting dubbing on just by forming it to the thread by hand? Also would this be a good fly for indicator nymphing?

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m sure you could fish it under an indicator. I use a dubbing loop when I want the dubbing to have a more buggy look as it doesn’t trap down as many fibers.

    Hey, Zach, curious about your waders (I know they aren't relevant to this video but it reminded me...) The short URL you've included doesn't link through to anything. Got another link? Thanks!

      You can pick them up at a local fly shop or online. They are Simms G3 waders, hope that helps

    Going to try this on the Provo next week and see how bad it does =P the fish on the provo are (I would bet) the worlds most damned picky fish! If 1 fuzz is off they wont take your fly. If you're not using a 40 foot, glass rod with 70x tippet No fush for you! (it seems....)
