Thanks for watching!
I like the idea. One thing I don’t like about sleeping in the back of a truck is, if in the middle of the night the SHTF, you’re stuck back there. Sleeping in the back seat area would allow you to get behind the wheel and vamos, without exposing yourself.
Getting out of a camper, trailer, or truck bed to drive away is a big issue for me. If pick ups would have an egress window on the back of the cab that would be a game changer.
I made sure I could get thru the back window so I could escape and drive away.
I do like the bed in the back seat idea. I wish the interior width was revealed. Bob should ask to tape& measure the key dimensions. That would be valuable to many of us trying to decide which is the best vehicle. Bob is only 5'8, so he says. Some of the widt
Of the widths are not doable for those 5'10 or taller.
I agree with bed in back seat I haven't tried to climb through the cab and camper windows yet but not a spring chicken so don't know if it will work!!
You might consider putting something on the side of the platform that rubs against the seats so that that seat upholstery isn't damage by the motion of the platform while traveling.
Hey Mike- I decided to do that with the same thought in mind- I trimmed the tips of the screws used for the latch and wrapped the edges of the platform pieces that would rub against the seats with a towel and stapled it in place- that seems to be working great - no wear on the upholstery so far.
Pool noodles or pipe insulation
@@melissamasters8936 awesome idwa!!!
So glad to see you're still active and passionate about making this content Bob!! My wife and I watched your videos for years. Your videos are what convinced us to live in an RV. We did it for 3 years and now we're living back in a normal house, about to start a family. But I wanted to leave a comment and say thank you so much for the content you make. If not for your videos I'm not sure we'd have ever moved into the trailer, and if we hadn't we'd have missed out on some of the best memories of my whole life.
Wow~. Love this, thanks Deb for sharing!!!
Great idea, great woman, great video, Thankyou
A Dodge with the mega cab is fantastic for build-out 😁
Beautiful Springer Spaniel!
Excellent ... happy travels. ❤ Jake...have fun
I learn a few things by watching Deb build this. Nice lady and knows quite a bit about tools. Thanks Bob for this video.
Love viewing your interviews.
Jake appears to be an English Springer Spaniel. Mine is named Maddie. The sweetest digs ever. Safe travels!❤❤
That's a GENIUS idea. I might incorporate that same idea in my build. Thanks Bob!
Wow, wonderful, Deb and Bob. Window latches, 2 would work great to secure your platform section together. I find them used at Re Store and flea markets. I absolutely love the way you secured the legs for easy removal and storage. Great job, Thank you for showing us the process and product.
Her dog is taking up all the space 😂
Die with memories, not with dreams, I love it! Great idea for your back seat area. that is amazingly versatile. I hope it works out well for you.
Perfect! Now I've got more ideas for my minivan too!
Papi-power makes a point, and we have to feed the algorithm. Thanks for the walk through build Bob and Deb 😘
Over 1.800 views and only 10 comments come on people he does a fantastic job for you. this man has to go out and find people to record . go back edit the video and do all this and put it up on the internet and a timely manner for you guys to enjoy and you can't even make a comment and like the video if you can't make a comment share the video thank you be safe and love you all God bless
I put a mattress in the back seat of my RAM 1500. The seat folds up and flat platforms fold out for a nice flat floor to put a trimmed foam mattress. I traveled across country both ways three times like that. At first, it was good. But over time, I grew less and less comfortable. I am just a couple of inches longer than the width of the back of the truck. Laying diagonally worked for a bit, but eventually I could not get a good night's sleep from feeling cramped. The last trip from the west coast to the east coast was to buy a teardrop with a queen bed. Now that the wife is retiring soon, we are considering something larger for full time.
This is exactly what I wanted to know! She is amazing! She explains things really well and she knows her stuff! I have a dodge ram half ton 4 x 4 truck. The backseats in the cab fold Totally flat and leave the same large space that is large enough to make a sleeping area out of it. It also holds a huge dog crate. Thanks for sharing this information!❤
Always something good to see on here thank you for sharing!
Hey Bob, can you please do more videos on these types of vehicles. You've done heaps on small cars, vans etc but no one shows us any builds with these vehicles.
Thanks
Thank you! I never thought about sleeping in the truck that way. Our Springer Sam would probably like it too!🐕
Leaf levelers would keep the two boards level with each other with a leaf lock to hold them together. look at an old table that is made for a leaf to see how it goes together.
I love it! I always wondered if one could build a bed in a truck like that. Then you can jump into the front seat without having to climb out of the back of the pickup and run around to the driver’s seat. She did a great job of describing what she was doing.
Yes I did get something good. I like how to videos like this. This lady has it going on.
That is well done! I like how she can unbolt it and fold it flat, if she wants to.
You are so talented. Good job. Jake is so cute ❤❤❤. Sending thanks for showing what you have done.
Interesting- I didn't expect those 2 bolts at the base of the legs to give so much rigidity! I'll try that with my next project!
Goodness....my knees don't bend adequately to crouch down like she does!
This is my plan. I'm having back surgery in 2 months, and I know after that I'm screwed. 3 fusions doesn't leave much room for a good working career after. I was homeless for 4 years on the street in active addition, but have been sober almost 4 years, so I feel I have a good mindset. I would like to make it to slab city, but that's gna be tough. I'm sure I will be messaging you with questions.
May you keep the strength to stay clean! Kudos to you. I lost my 36yr old son to addiction. Good luck on your journey.❤
Great idea and very easy for just about anyone to do.
I see that beautiful Jake. My favorite breed. Safe travels to you.
Bravo !!!!!
Try a pair of old school double hung window latch to tie the 2 pieces together
Good stuff. Showing her efforts a confidence-builder for me and my ambitions.
Thank you Bob
Getting ready to take a trip in my F-150 and was wondering how to make a bed in the back. Thank you folks for the demo.
#Grateful 🙏 love you guys, thank you, #mahalo
hope to hear of any follow up comments after the setup gets used!
Hi Kathy- I’ve used this set up now for months and Jake loves it- the storage area is incredible and it accomplishes what I had hoped- which was allowing me to build out the bed of my truck to sleep back there. All of my tools fit under the platform and the truck bed is my sleeping space. I am very happy, so far, with the build- including the truck bed build out! (Which I did separate from this video) go check out Linda’s build out video for the plans for the Truck Bed!
I loved watching the build. A gentle reminder that we can all do it. Thanks again! ❤
So cool. I have a Tundra, and I will save this video!
Thank you Bob. As always a great post
A unique creation.
🏕🏕🏕🏕 Good Show! ... Bruce
Awesome. I may copy. I like how versitile it is. I think a second latch would hold the two parts together more securely.
Another idea is to build the bed frame but instead of a sheet of plywood to sleep on, drill holes along the sides of the bed rails and run Mason's twine through the holes in a weaving pattern. This is called a rope bed and it's much more comfy.
Great idea. I have been considering something similar because I think a pick-up truck is a very ideal vehicle for just about anything a person might want to do. Over the years I have owned a few trucks, a school bus and a motorhome and a Classic GMC Vandura. All of these vehicles were great and I loved them but a pick-up is more useful and can go more places for less money in the long run. Thanks for sharing. Nice to know your dog approves !
Beautiful!!
Nice build also!!🇺🇸👍👍🙏🏾🙏🏾
Cool idea, looks kinda easy thanks Bob and Deb!
She is wearing a Natural Life T shirt and so am I today!
This is great it’s exactly what I did. I have a 2006 Silverado crew cab but I took my backseats out and made a bed platform so I could have storage underneath but wasn’t carrying the weight of the backseat.
Fabulous!
The I think about it, I like the idea of using the rear seat of a truck cab- super cab would be my preference - as a bed. I could use the bed with a toper as my apartment, kitchen, etc. the cab bedroom would solve the safety issue as long as I could design a configuration whereas I could sleep sideways.
Great video. Love the build. Including the thought process was informative
Thank you for your video ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you I’ve been wanting to do this I have a smaller truck and seats go up as well! Thank You Happy Safe Travels 🙏😊
Great job 👍🏻 🐾🙏🏻✌🏻
Great idea, thanks for sharing, Debbie & Bob. Dunno if my F250 rear bench folds up or not, bc it's older and I never thought to try it. Thanks for all you do, Bob.
I like this format. Teaching how to. Very simple. Excellent 😊
Love this whole idea!
This is a fantastic idea for traveling in a truck. I could spend my days in the back with kitchen area among other things while sleeping in the cab. Safer this way
very well done
Thank you for this! Bob, I havent seen the quotes to live by lately. Hope you're doing well!
Nice job Deb, I like what you've done! Happy traveling.
Nice job! I have a modified F150 (diesel heater, solar, frig, etc) that I’d like to sell and get an suv. Is there a place to list it where nomads would see it? Nomads classified ads!
Great ideas!! Thanks for sharing
Great video! I think I'll try this for minivan also , I think I'll put a piano hinge between the 2 pieces and put a heavy tote under legs to have front of bed inclined [like lounge position]. Collapable could fit in behind front seat of single cab trucks also.
Always inspiring!
Fun, informative video. Thanks for sharing your truck build.
Thank you!!! Been racking my brain trying to figure out how to do exactly what I just watched! I have a Dodge Ram and I’m am so happy to see her design!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Nice! Thank you for sharing 🙏🕊🌏🤟
Oh boy, I am interested in this. My road trip vehicle is an F-150. Awesome job!
nice video thanks
Lucky dog 🐕
Another awesome vid Bob!
Another interesting build
Great idea 💡
I have just loved your videos over the past few years! It’s neat to see how others live and arrange their homes. So many creative ideas that keep me motivated.
Great video 👍. Thanks for sharing this with us 👍
I love Bob Wells!! This channel is my go to for all things Vanlife🫶🏽🫶🏽
Thank you for showing us how you converted your cab. I was wondering if I could just sleep in the cab if I purchased a truck. I see I can. That gives you time then to build out the truck bed and consider trailer options.
Nice! 😁👍
❤
She's very smart and will save lots of gas traveling that way for sure. Another nice video Bob!😆
What a great idea! 👍🙂
Keep up all the great interviews Bob. Your interviews and reviews keep me coming back. Lots of love from Perth Western Australia 👍
HI YAY
Nice addition to the back seat of your pickup Deb. If you have or can borrow a metal file, you might consider filing off the ends of the screws that are sticking through the top of the plywood after screwing on the latch to hold the two pieces together.
Thank you for this video! Great information😊
Awesome
I have an F150 crew cab and I have slept on the back floor board to camp over night..If you put the passenger seat all the way up you actually have room to stretch out but your ideas is where I want to go with this..trying to figure out a bed from Dash board to back seat as low as I can get it..but the passenger seat has to lay back low enough to do what I want to do. But your idea is great but I need to have room to stretch out even though normally I don't sleep that way. So my idea might be better for sleep and not block my view and more storage but your idea will be perfect for the rest of the back area
Bob you always find great ideas and people to demonstrate! Great job!
Nice!
Great video easy to follow. I am interested to see how she makes the cab work for her for sleeping. Also is there a way to make the window between the bed of the truck and the back seat larger to crawl through if needed? Always enjoy your videos Bob. Thank you
Useful addition. Great job!
Mark the legs so they always go back into the same spot Just in case they were custom cut for the different contours of the truck floor.
Hey Pete- I did do that- thinking the same thing! Great idea
Nice video.
Very good idea. Thanks for sharing. Be safe Be happy.
I've learned so much from your channel, Bob. Thanks for the inspiration
