This may be the first concert programme of Raschid Khan that I have ever witnessed him singing without acoustic tanpura.
He now keeps an ipad with a digital version of yanpura called iTanpura. Its a superb app and yet, cannot possobly hope to resound in the way that a distinguished artist such as Ustadji deserves.
The ancient art of tanpura is fast becoming a lost art. If senior artists such as Ustadji are abandoning the very "ground of sound" that manual tanpura provides, then we are withessing something truly remarkable.
The number of classical vocalists in India whose sur is provided by keeping two tanpuras, one on either side, can be counted on one hand. I do hope it will not become a dying tradition.
Most artists complain how difficult it is to have a tanpura at the concert, how hard it is to find a player, what a problem it is when tanpura goes out of tune.
But i would ask any artist to consider what their guru's guru do? For this artform is handed down through antiquity to successive generations and therefore can be considered a traditional artform, wirh traditional elements which must be preserved.
The repetitious nature of "Telephone Tanpura" means that the subtle modulations that occur in a naturally resonating instrument are lost when using a recorded loop.
I humbly request vocalists to use manual tanpura for their concerts and recordings for a more timeless aesthetic.

Except Yogesh ji, other beauties telling about the program are all English cultured with little or no knowledge or reverence to divine blessed Hindustani classical music. Ustad Murad Ali is always even above the prefix Ustad. He is in our hearts.❤❤❤
