Thank you that was a great video. I've been a little scared of pulling the board out of my machine but from this I can see how much easier it makes it to test the resistance of things.

Hi Mark !! Thank you for taking the time to make these informative videos. I still struggle with EM Game troubleshooting. Reading the schematics and understanding how to follow them is one of my main weaknesses.

Ditto John, I get that!! It is like learning a foreign lanquage! It takes hours to figure out one simple connection in the schematics!, oh wait, no such thing as one simple connection!! lol

Ohms testing means resistance testing means electrical continuity testing. You are testing to see if that wire (the winding in the coil) is one continuous, insulated wire. You must disconnect at least the positive side (as you did at the end of the video), otherwise you are checking connectivity with "who knows what". Power off, as you said, and disconnect. Your ohm meter readings test to see if there's a short (meaning "no resistance") leading to very low readings or none at all. But you kinda need to know what the coil is rated for. If there's a short half way through the winding, you're going to get a reading about half as much as it's rated. Which might make you think it's OK, because the reading is not zero (low number). On these coils, you should be pretty close to the rating number for that coil.

Thank you! I had a flipper that stopped working and it turned out to be the stopper reads were not making contact. I was all set to order a new coil but the resistance was good.

Great video. found 3 bad coils in the Meteor project I'm working on that kept blowing fuses. Some coils that looked Ok were actually badly corroded, and causing the coil to short. Subscribed!

MARKS BASEMENT, all relay switches cause arching across the contacts. I don't understand when adding a parallel capacitor across the relay contacts that it will prevent the arcing, any reasons why?

@@MarksBasementArcade Thank you Mark! I've been watching so many videos trying to diagnose a flipper that stopped working on my 78 Bally Blackjack. I saw somewhere that is was "necessary" to remove power...but maybe that was to test ohms regarding Connectivity between 2 pins on a board. This is all very complicated, but it sure is fun to learn! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge!
