  • Todd Tuckey shows you a 1982 Spectrum Pinball Machine that has you uncover the clues to figure out what color was selected! You have 4 color choices and by hitting targets or asking for clues by rolling into one of three holes, you try to unlock each color box to advance the "stars"! Very elaborate and perhaps to difficult for many players back then, it has now become a "sleeper" hit prized by collectors who have found a working one! This particular machine looks fantastic too! Thanks to collector Kevin who supplied pictures of the bottom of the machine to help identify what was missing, and Richard Haak --NJ collector--who HAD the exact parts from apparently a junked machine from years ago!!

This game had an interesting history. It never tested well and management wanted to scrap it. However they had ordered parts to build around 900 games and when there was surplus capacity on the assembly line they went ahead and built them. Unfortunately distributors were un-interested in ordering more pins let alone a bad game like Spectrum so the games sat piled up in the Bally factory for months until they were spirited off to unseen warehouses. In those days if you 'shipped' a game anywhere it could be reported to stockholders even if it was not actually sold so companies would hide unsold inventory off site wherever they could.
In the end they probably only sold around 300 or so of these games with the remainder salvaged for parts and scrap.

I have this game on my Basement. I purchased it from "Stan's Arcade"(Janesville, Wisconsin)in 1983-ish. I believe...Stan got it new, so I am the second owner. It...didn't do well at Stan's; most of the patrons didn't like it. I purchased it for something like $600.00. I thought it's concept was different & unique; nothing like it in 1982, so...I purchased it. Aside from bulbs burning out, I have never had to have it serviced.

There's a lot of unique things about this machine that I like. Bumping up from a foxhole/drain instead of a shooter ramp, that's a great way to save on table real estate. The side foxholes that . . . they're only there to speed the game up, I love it.
Emphasizing ball control by giving reduced points if you hit the wrong bank, that's fantastic. I would love to play this machine in person.

As a Spectrum owner myself... I can vouch for it being a great game!
My only real knock is sometimes you can higher scores by shooting targets randomly instead of playing the game how it's suppose to be played. I thought it would be a neat concept to actually subtract points for hitting the wrong target colors.
I guess it would have been more brutal and more hard to understand.;/

think ive played this a few times but not one of my favourites. your teams work on these machines just staggers me, and I enjoy every video you put together ,they look a fun crowd to be with. keeps me watching for hours as I trawl through them, and (head office) is giving me funny looks, lol. I am a p/ball fanatic and work in an amusement arcade here in Britain, sadly no p/bs so all your stuff brings back so many happy memories thanx so much.

alan p Hi Alan! What a great message! Thanks for telling us you like them! We do spend alot of time on the videos..they have two purposes..one , the video is for the new owner BEFORE he gets the machine---to make sure he's happy!...and two....for the enjoyment of others, and of course potential new customers who may want a game from us in the future! I have several viewers that watch these on their theater screens too...and enjoy them even more!! Imagine my face blown up ona big screen!

Todd shouldn't the slingshots have the single large rubber ring so players get a little bounce instead of hitting a piece of plastic? My spectrum has the large rubbers.

No leaks in the roof I hope. Melting snow show prove where those are. metal porch roof connecting to the house always leaks there. think a gutter should be put under that area instead of gooping it.
