  • I'm choosing to swap my SRAM Force AXS cassette from the 10-33 cassette to the 10-28 cassette. The video explains why, including the use of SRAM AXS Web.

    What gearing do you use with your SRAM AXS set up? Do you mix and match? Let me know in the comments!

    Thank you for making this video and showing that the 16 is not available on the 10-33. This really helps me make the decision to go 10-28.

      Glad it helps you out! Just keep in mind, if you NEED the 33T option for hills or something, you'll definitely want to prioritize the 33T cog. I hardly ever used the 33T, so it made sense for me to swap out to the 28T cassette and I do use that 16T cog a bunch!

    My bike came with the 10-33 cassette. I mostly ride flat roads all the time here in South Florida so I’m thinking of changing to the 10-26 cassette. The gears I mostly ride in are 13,14,15,17. With the 10-26 I also get the 16 gear which is one of the reasons I want to upgrade.

      @JMCyclingVideos  Před 3 lety +2

      Excellent use case! Yes on flat roads a 10-26 would be great. Here in Kansas, I do have a few short sharp hills so I opted for the 10-28.

    Very informative, I would definitely mix and match. 33 is very helpful when climbing, but not really necessary in the Netherlands. Do you need to readjust your rear derailleur every time you change your cassette?

    • @JMCyclingVideos
      @JMCyclingVideos  Před 2 lety +4

      It’s definitely good to have options. I used my 33T cassette when I went to the mountains and did a bunch of climbing. The only adjustment I make is the B-screw. Hope this helps!

      @JMCyclingVideos  Před 2 lety +3

      @@MrFarmaco If you're going from a 10-28 to a 10-33, possibly, depending on how short the chain was cut down. But, going from the 33 to the 28, you don't need to. The RD can keep chain tension over that 10T cog just fine. I do recommend adjusting the B-screw though.

    I also have a RED 10-28 and a Force 10-33 at home at the moment. Will be using the 10-28 mostly for the 16T cog, and the 10-33 when i go to the mountains. Did you use the BIG-BIG method for sizing the chain to the 10-33? if i was to size the chain for the 10-28, would it still work for the 10-33? i am thinking of drivetrain efficiency when the chain is sized to the cassette you are using most often. Not 100% sure what cassette to size the chain with... 10-28 would make the chain one inner+ one outer link shorter, right? Thanks for the help!

    • @JMCyclingVideos
      @JMCyclingVideos  Před 2 lety +1

      Glad it was helpful. And yes I did the big big with the 33T. I’m not sure the RD would clear the 33T if you size it for the 28T cassette. There’s quite a size difference between the two. I’m sure it would be more efficient sizing exact for each cassette but that’s a minor trade off for the ability to swap them. I had no issues running the 28T cassette with the longer chain.

    Great video! Have you considered changing your crankset to a 46/33t in combination with the 10-28t cassette?

    • @JMCyclingVideos
      @JMCyclingVideos  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks! Actually, no I haven’t considered a 46/33. For the terrain I’m on and the power to weight I maintain, there aren’t a lot of situations in which I need much lower gearing. I just did an HC category climb last week (albeit not super steep in most parts) and managed ok with my 35/28 combo.

    • @JMCyclingVideos
      @JMCyclingVideos  Před 2 lety +3

      I did not. It may have provided a bit crisper of shifting on the big cogs out back, but I really didn't notice a difference. If I were permanently switching, I would've pulled a couple of links just so it was optimal.

      Thank you! I really enjoy the SRAM web app so that I can easily see how I'm using my gearing. It's great for optimizing your set up. I did just come back from a ride up in the high mountains with some big climbs and I swapped my 10-33 back on for that trip. The 33T was definitely needed on a few of the longer climbs I did. Keep an eye on the channel for some mountain riding videos if you'd like!

  • @SamuelBlackMetalRider

    Going for 50-37 and wondering about swapping to 10-33 instead of 10-28. Bigger chainring is definitely more efficient. But i got 53-39 with 27t max on my Colnago with Campy and that’s a bit short for real climbs so even 50-37 with 28t might still be a bit too short.

    • @JMCyclingVideos
      @JMCyclingVideos  Před rokem

      The 37-28 combo is still still a shorter gear than your 39-27 combo, but quite a bit. But, if you are OK with the jumps in gear ratios that you'll have with the 10-33, it's going to feel like an extra low range gear compared to your Campy set up and give you more to work with on bigger climbs.

    • @mlee6050
      @mlee6050 Před 10 měsíci

      I am same place as they don't do 53-39 sadly without power meter so I'm looking at 50-37 but unsure if to go 10-33 just for if I do hill climb more in future or 10-28, forgot the gear but I did ditchling beacon with 39:28 on some but I had a flat front tyre, unsure how I could repair my tubular when out so I went the last 10 miles to finish line, I'm thinking to do alpe de huez I believe it is in future

      As long as your chain is long enough, yes. I could readily swap the two cassettes but my chain was sized for the 10-33 first.

      This is in the app. You do have to have your gear linked to your bike to view it in the ride data itself. These are specific usages to rides, not a report of all riding.

    JM, do you still have that 10-33 cassette? I need it, do you sell it? What if you offer me a bargain so I can get it. I live abroad the US but have family and friends in FL. Hope that this is OK for you.

      I do still have it! Actually, I'm going to hang onto it for those occasions when I go hit some climbs. I'll be heading out to the Rockies later this spring and I'll be swapping that 10-33 on as I'll be tackling some cat 1 and 2 climbs while I'm there. I would recommend setting up an alert on eBay to get notified when used ones come up for sale. That's how I got the 10-28. Good luck!

    10-28 better for hills?

    • @JMCyclingVideos
      @JMCyclingVideos  Před 2 lety +2

      10-28 is better for short rolling hills, in my opinion, as the closer ratio is better in most situations. If you struggle up short hills, 10-33 would help with that. I did just recently complete a 13.6 mile climb averaging 5.2% with about 3800' of elevation gain using my 48/35 combo and 10-28T cassette. It wasn't easy, but it was doable.
