"Pur ti miro, pur ti godo" is the final duo of the Monteverdi's opera L'incoronazione di Poppea and it can be considered one of the most beautiful and most versioned love duets of the history of the opera.
This is my favourite performance of 'Pur ti Miro'. They hardly look at each other, they send it out into the audience, remember this is two voices having to fill a whole auditorium. That's where the magic of this piece lies for me, because I first heard it on the radio. There was just the two characters and the darkness. It doesn't need an orchestra, just a continuo, and they shouldn't be seen.
Remember the context of this piece, the irony. We know what is going to happen to them in three years time. They are like Bonnie and Clyde, or Hindley and O'Grady.
Yes I see you have the same dress. Very important. I was really waiting for that. Sarah Connolly understands what music is about. Louise Alder not yet.
Pur ti miro Pur ti godo Pur ti miro Pur ti godo Pur ti stringo Pur t'annodo Più non peno Più non moro O mia vita, o mi tesoro Io son tua Tuo son io Speme mia, dillo, dì Tu sei pur, speme mia L'idol mio, dillo, dì Tu sei pur Sì, mio ben Sì, mio cor, mia vita, sì Pur ti miro Pur ti godo Pur ti stringo Pur t'annodo Più non peno Più non moro O mia vita, o mi tesoro
Muchas gracias @victorhaase por enviar la traducción de este maravilloso tema ,en realidad es muy requerida por los líricos por supuesto ,todas son extraordinariamente bellas ,las líricas que acabo de escuchar son de una finesa dulzura únicas .
Popea is a great opera, I really like Monteverdi, although I find a lot of room for improvement in this interpretation, specially in the musicians playing tighter, tuning issues (or different temperament in the harpsichord and the orchestra) and a better continuo, keep it up, looking forward to hear more interpretations of the Academy of Ancient Music
Ironic that many people love Monteverdi largely for this very duet, which is now thought by musicologists to have been written by Ferrari, not Monteverdi.
Doesn't matter. Monteverdi was an old man and seems to have collaborated with others on this last stage work. More tragic on a cosmic scale - Rossini probably didn't write Rossini's Cat Duet.
Sarah Connolly, perfection.
Straordinarie! Bellissime! Bravissime! Monteverdi vi ringrazia!☀️☀️☀️

I should of course, have said Ian Brady.
My apologies to all O'Gradys
Such a vibrant and energetic presentation of his love song. And both singers are adorable. Thank you for sharing.
Sublime Connolly...i vari controtenori possono andare a nascondersi....

How sweet is that ending
❤
I love Louise Alder's dress. And the performance of this beautiful piece is so moving. Thank you for sharing this with us.

@@koosriedijk3872 Just becasue she has a nice dress? Are you ok?
That Dress barely covers the obvious. But she has beautiful skin and shoulders, bosom and arms so - why not? Beautifully sung by both Ladies.
A very tender musical moment. Excellent.
So beautiful - what a wonderful paring this is. :)

Superbe!
In Bucharest Romanian Athenaeum
monteverdi was a master
👏👏👏👏
I adore this composition. However , This is very, very closely microphoned. Wonder what it sounded like live? The soprano seems a bit inaudible .

Doesn't matter. Monteverdi was an old man and seems to have collaborated with others on this last stage work.
More tragic on a cosmic scale - Rossini probably didn't write Rossini's Cat Duet.
According to my best knowledge Monteverdi's most talented pupil Francesco Cavalli composed this final duett, or just copied the score

The soprano messed up at the end. She came in too early with the last note.
ecco ! undicialberi
So? The unexpected of a live performance!
No she didn't
I don’t hear anything that sounds wrong
That's exactly what's written.
No passion just static...
Great voice but horrible performance
Stunning!
