Congratulations NZ. This design is incredible. Kind of like watching SpaceX landing there fuel rockets on legs. Hard to believe without seeing it.
This has become the equivalent of the speed events in alpine ski racing, especially downhill. One bad turn and you’re out of the race.
Yup - these races are so often blow-outs right from the start. I miss the open-water America's Cup racing that unfolded gradually over a number of hours, with opportunity for trailing boats to make a comeback with good tactical decisions.
I so agree with you Julian. There was more human tactician thinking involved.
Can the audio technicians, or the guy in charge of them, please do their job properly! Having the booth commentators, on-water reporters, crew audio from BOTH boats, plus background boat and environment noise all blurred together adds up to a cacophony. Pick one track and get it right!
Don't mind the commentators, don't mind the talk on the boat, don't mind the sound of the boats. But put it all together, over top of each other, and the sound on these clips is a mess. If you are the official channel you could be doing a lot better.
Yes, the video producer should cut off the boat, or the commentators. Not both at the same time.
Yes, if you're new to this, it's bewildering and confusing. In the Sky coverage of Formula One at least Martin Brundle occasionally takes a step back to explain a technicality for newbies, but with this, you can't even seem something as fundamental as wind direction, and unless you're totally on the case, it's tough to distinguish between a gybe and a tack.
Nick, I sailed and raced in NYC harbor weekends, so I thought I knew a little. My first thought on seeing these was, why don’t they let out the sails more downwind? Of course they get so much more speed up on the foils, they don’t go more downwind than a broad reach.
I agree. I don’t like all the chatter. Just ONE knowledgeable commentator ata time, please.
Sounds fine to me, quit your moaning. Some people are sooo entitled. Go roll around in the mud then break rocks for a few years and come back with a better attitude. A55hole.
It should be great to show us also on the sketches the different directions and strengths of the real wind. And a replay ,when it happens,of critical moments under different points of vue especially above might help us. Especially when no one understood what happened...
I don't get all the complaints about commentary. You can hear the teams, you can hear the commentators. You can hear the stress on the boats.
It's frenetic, intense, high performance match racing. This is the most exciting racing since the Americas Cup began...a culmination of development since KZ7 in 86. Take the politics out, level the field out....and race!
no its crap
To the commentators: why do you feel the need to be talking all of the time?
Some info on the rules of the game is fine, but remember, we too can see what you can see.
turn your sound down. then chill out.
Because that's what commentators get paid to do.
Comentate.
They comentate teh american way. Babble over what you already see so they don‘t see the need to provide meaningful information. I take the sounds down.
because they are overjoyed at their fame
Crikey, if i didnt have enough voices in my head already, this audio was a real rave party.
Hahahahaha! No kidding eh?!?!?!
These boats are fast. Enjoying the coverage. Great job.
I'm good with commentary, but for christ sake get the coverage of the start and camera transitions down... what does it matter if we can't see the exciting bits!
AMERICA THE. GREAT BLOWN. AWAY. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Congratz to Airbus for those 3 big AIRBUS on American Magic !!
Definitely bush, Peter.
Having been an airline dispatcher where we would have aircraft noise, passengers trying to talk to you whilst your listening to radio comms in one ear and checking figures with your eyes, I find the commentary and noises on this OK. I supposed I am trained to be able to separate each sound and process it. My wife just struggles with the barrage of sound.
Some people are just too weak minded.
Thank you for speaking my mind. I'm a police dispatcher and also have no problems with the coverage.
You could add a song in the background too. You really don´t have enough different sounds at the same time. Guys, please do your job and get your shit together ^^
best to turn sound off, it's a bloody nonsense, sure use the sound if you know not too much abt racing.otherwise it is good with no sound
The sound of the boats, creeking it's brilliant, I feel like I'm on board these amazing rocket- ships.
Loving the background sounds indeed.
It really does take you to another level.
Magic is fast
Enios is getting fast
Luna Rossa is really fast
ETNZ is ?
The winner
The filming is amazing, well done
The overpowering chalkboard effects of the crew easing sheets and strategizing over the commentators, is maddening. Dont they ever play it back and listen to themselves?
Thank you
What’s the god awful whistling sound? I had to turn the volume down on the Tv, the dog was threatening to pack his shit and leave.
Lol
Fin and wind vibration, just think how much power and force is going into these boats at those speeds. Plus you have cavitation occurring at speed to on the fins which causes vibration
Mine gave me the "WTF is that?" stare when he heard the animal groaning noise.
Haha
@@brettmciver432 I know right? that’s crazy fast at 9 kts of wind
AWSOME. COMENTATOR
Unable to hear the commentators. I barely can believe if there is no ANYONE in the team watching the live stream and suggest some major adjustments on the outbound voice stream to make commentators more clear and background voices less distracting.
They were all too busy doing their best to win the race... worrying about the audio for armchair sailors would be the last thing on their minds I would imagine.
The boats and tech are cool but the racing leaves a lot to be desired. One splash down and the race is over unless the other boat does the same.
Yup - these races are so often blow-outs right from the start. I miss the open-water America's Cup racing that unfolded gradually over a number of hours, with opportunity for trailing boats to make a comeback with good tactical decisions.
Kiwis did it 4 times against the Americans in the first race and only just lost it and passed the Americans at the last mark but butchered it going around that mark.
It is possible to come back if you're TNZ. 😉😜🤭🍻🍻
Some people just never happy, if you don't like it don't watch don't like the sounds turn it off, I don't like to hear Steve's voice but Sky has the right to broadcast. Watching these races since 1987 and I'll tell you the Kiwis will take this out again.
To much talk. Just Kenny Nathan and onboard.
Hi
Waiting to see the american stuff up on replay, but nothing. No surprises there.
I'm NOT a sailor. Can someone explain why they can't go somewhat straight line. It is the shortest distance. Why the turning and weaving. Is it the direction of the wind? Sorry for being so ignorant.
Very cool!
It’s hard to realise how fast these boats are going, until you realise they are going the same speed you drive down a motorway!
Indeed the comments and sounds behind are just unbearable
You know where the door is.
When I saw the design I was pretty skeptical (both about strength of the foil arms and the control), but these foils are very stable.
background sound must be muted its a pain
Why does the American commentator keep swearing? I guess he is trying to sound like a Kiwi but it doesn't really work.
Yes, it's bizarre. Rather like having a Brit guest commentator at the Super Bowl who keeps using words like 'dude', 'radical', 'yo', 'dang', and 'y'all'...
I would like the Dennis Connor commentary... "back in the good old days... the race would take five hours" ...and the top speed flying the chute was 11 knots" ( now I can see why the crew wear crash helmets... the BOOM is at deck level.
Finale di America's Cup
1- NZL
2 - American Magic
3 - Luna Rossa
4 - Britannia INEOS.
La previsione più semplice del mondo...
Crews or commentators. Make up your minds. The onboard hydraulics are making it hard to hear the talk. Please figure something out before the Cup. Thumbs down over this after watching the same horrendous volume for several days. C'MON!
Turn the off the sound
stop whining ...
I guess you've never sailed...
Please show the speeds constantly and less background chitchat
Why didn’t the American boat tack on top of ETNZ on leg 3? They had the lead and allowed ETNZ to split with them, a huge mistake!
When is the sound going to improve?
Seems fine to me. If you've ever been on a boat you'd understand there can be sounds coming from many directions at once. They're not playing tiddly winks out there.
LOOSE THE BACKGROUND AUDIO! YOUR SLAMMING A TRUELY WONDERFUL EVENT INTO THE GROUND.
Nope. It's awesome.
1 Question, every time I have watched these boats race and the american boat makes a mistake the cameras on board are not working WHY?
Sack the commentators and give us just the boat talk and the natural sounds of the boats.
Why don't you just buy a boat and try sailing?
I wounder , Did Magic have an issue with its foil drops before the major accident ?
Great... shoddy camera work and finally at 18:00 we get a real moment of drama with America coming off the foils... where was the editing? Showing a pass that was not even close to questionable.
Their jib was let out and so they lost boatspeed. Off the foils and no effective correction. They pretty much stopped and were sailing away from the mark. Watch the lead figures spooling.
Why they protested is a mystery. "We're losing! This isn't supposed to happen.Quick protest!" American america's cup tactics alive and well.
I think it would be more interesting if the crews were not allowed to use live onboard computing for strategy, but just had to rely on the skipper's experience and craft like they used to in the old days.
Also, it's a shame that a single splash down almost invariably costs the race. A less extreme design that allowed a faster return for foiling would make for more interesting racing, especially if onboard computing were eliminated at the same time. Additionally, a less extreme design would also likely result in entries from more teams in the competition.
I've watched all the races so far, but as fast as these boats are, isn't it a bit boring if both vessels are not in the same camera shot? These races have tended to visually become time trials, rather than the match races one would hope for.
Go watch something else.
"Like they used to in the old days"
Tgere uus a reason why it's called the old days. Less technology, less speed.
These boats today would sail circles round the old days boats.
Don't compare different era's, it's no use. 'Cause how far would you have to go back? 20years? 50? 100? Longer?
Personally, I like Pilot Cutter races! But they're no match whatsoever to these ones.
Love it all together!
NZ has the technology that no other would have contemplated about.
Sailing
As much as this is super exciting, it would be cool to see all men operated boats, except basic nav....
Kenny Reid. I really respect you and your commentary, but remember back in Bermuda everyone was saying Pete Burling wasn't up to it when it came to starts? Well here we go again. He will cream it when it comes to the AC finals.
And down goes frazier
Nathan Outridge. it's not about the software. It's about good sailing skills. Knowing how to call the wind shifts and currents. If you relied only on software, you won't win the America's Cup. I'm surprised at the number of times you said America Magic was relying on software. If that is what you did in Bermuda, with all respect, that is why you didn't win the Cup.
yeah, the commentators need to shut up. I want to hear the crews.
It is nice to be able to watch these races, but the announcers really do know how to wreck things. It sounds like every time someone on the boats starts to say something, the announcers subtly increase the tenor of their talk, as if to not allow the boat crews to rudely interrupt. And they talk incessantly. Announcers probably talk themselves to sleep at night.
@@davesmith5656 Same with the F1. Except there they do stop talking for the communication between drivers and the race engineer.
@@bessarion1771 ---- Excellent observation. I stopped watching golf - just no fun if you can't hear the shots. Baseball's not bad. Announcers get paid for the "sound" of their voice and enunciation, to "excite" the viewer. Announcer: "What are the sea conditions of the water out there today?!" Sailor: "A bit wet."
Bad win but a win.
Scusate ma dov'è il match race? Io vedo due barche che partono ed arrivano distinte ed indisturbate
Con queste regole e design, ogni virata è un terno al lotto (vedi anche qui la sconfitta di A.M.). Se spanci, hai perso. Mah...
Who thought it would be a good idea to have all audio playing at once and at the same level. It's great to hear the crew and the boats, but throw in the commentary and it's hard to isolate one party over the other. This is an embarrassing oversight that is still not addressed.
Interesting boats/technology demonstrators for sure but so far away from actual sailing at sea that you have to wonder whether any trickling down is really possible. This isn't the first time, the giant cats of the previous editions were just the same. That may be why only 4 teams got interested in competing and only 2 invested seriously.
I personally find a race like the Vendee Globe an order of magnitude more everything and the technology used in those boats actually has a chance to help sailors.
I would perhaps look at it differently if the America's cup races were tight, but this is basically as boring as formula one.
So what's left are beautiful "lake" sail boats that can only be sailed in super narrow conditions in a handful of spots. Why not but to me this isn't what sailing is about.
they should ;listen to shirley !
Do none of you people ever watch sailing at all? Those are the sounds of under extreme pressure sailing, crew communication and commentary for the lubbers. Don’t like it? There is a scale model sailing channel that is dead quiet.
WTF? Haven't seen sailboat racing since the days of Dennis Conner. This is what it's become?
Once the Kiwis get hold of something they are bound to stuff it up
It looks pathetic
Like listening to a commentary on watching paint dry. I love sailing but this is not sailing. I am not sure what it is.
And Formula 1 is not driving. If you don't like what you see, click a different video. Are you brain dead?
best to mute it
The commentators do not define the terms they use they’re not really explaining what they know and what we do not I think it’s pathetic coverage they’re not teaching the audience anything!!!
Thank goodness for a mute button...
Seriously how is there construction in the back of this! Like WTF
Have you ever sailed?? It is noisy!
@@thequietkiwi doesn't sound like a construction site
This isn't sailing, understand technology but tis isn't in the spirit of true sailing. Looks more like hydroplaning. The boat sails the people.
I miss the gennakers
We are in 2021 not in 90's.. No more boring 12 meters
Ouch
3rd leg : USA protest . "We're losing, save us cause the Kiwis are faster than we are and we can't beat them without help. "
Any weapons of mass destruction hiding in Auckland? 🤪
90 mitres. 150. Mitre jibs wow
Can anyone explain to a sailing ignorant why the Americans lost their lead and was suddenly far behind? Tactical blunder?
Hope Steven don’t come back. So annoying. Let the real sailors talk.
This is not sailing, more gliding,The glider is not even touching the water

What are those robotic terminator sounds I keep hearing?
Mainsheet traveler.
The microphones on the skippers are picking up various ambient noises coming from the rigging, hydraulics, sheets, and winches on the boats
@@JohnShepherdMusic Interesting...I've been watching from many sources and there's always this sound effect and often repetitive in pattern...anyone else's thoughts?
i love your description. listening to commentator rattling off the loads (excuse my ignorance of correct terminology) on various yacht bits(omg SORRY, i know its painful, like listening to wife talk about cricket) staggering load numbers. Bit like ticking tipping time bomb. No wonder sounds like the kids playing there transformer game.
Ouch. Fantastic win guys. Go Team New Zealand. Making Kiwi's Proud.
They put a microphone on the local building site, on a guy doing concrete drilling. Really adds atmosphere to the coverage, so they keep it full volume the whole time. It's very professional broadcasting....
I was lucky to own M12 Magic for 4 years. A real sailboat I guess. Old Skool now. Only 500 thumbs up. 83 comments. I feel the sail community couldn't care less. Which is a shame. And/ But happy to see no more mouth-mask in NZ. I guess if people can't relate, it's just for the happy few who pay for this. Sponsor exposure is secondary of-course, but a nice tax write-off. and close family and friends.
I was told that all achievements begins with the step to start,I got recommended here also about Austin how he help make hug profit for people I have tired now I have made withdrawal within a short period of time

This really is a joke. What a mess the Kiwis have made of this event. Forget sailing, just turn up the speed, hype, marketing and misuse of technology. The 18 footers were better than this.
They call this stuff close racing? hahaha
It would be nice if the skippers didn't use computers. What happened to using their knowledge and experience to win the race! The crash boats and radio communications can tell if the ship is almost off the course. How about one mark instead of two if you want to stick to true racing. I think the new tech is cool, but don't need to throw out some general racing rules because it's the America's Cup.
that was depressing, go USA
They seemed to be consistently a bit slower than the Kiwis, though.
Makes winning difficult, I guess, although top speed is not everything here.
Closer till Leg 3, .. disapointing

Really actual Prada and Americas Cup races are so boring, No tactics, no sail change, very small trim. The race is won in the designers table. No sailing
No tactics? It is all tactics. This is the equivalent of Formula 1. You should probably go back to go-kart level aka p-class racing. Crybaby.
GO AUSSIE YOU GOOD THING !
Bunch of snowflakes complaining about the coverage. The audio is no different to 2013 and 2017 where a regular TV anchor is supported by professional sailors. Don't like it? Turn the sound down or off. Simple.
New zealands cup and they using our black magic name for their own use for their bath tub.
Still managing to screw up the audio. Read the forking comments and find somebody to create a worthwhile production. You should slap yourselves for thinking you know what you are doing. Dislike number 51. BTW GFU.
A lot more sooks about the coverage than the so called sailing purists in the comments! Seems like a positive development I guess...
Best race ever.
hahahaha. NZ advertising ride of their lives...BS
You don't understand what a challenge it has been here in NZ to get the taxpayer investment required to hold this event. Seriously dude.
Please, employ some local high school AV monitors to run the coverage. The video quality of this event is almost unwatchable. The commentary is inane drivel, interspersed with someone breaking up concrete with a pneumatic drill. Oh, and let's completely miss the defining moment of the race when America stuffed up a tack and dropped off the foils. You have one job...FILM THE YACHTS RACING !!! Amateurs.
Disappointing lack of decent graphics, and inconsistently displayed! No VMG!
Shirley continues to make me feel ill every time I hear her screeching, shouting, nasal British twang. For our ear's sake, tell her to stop shouting, and use her Natural Voice (She probably doesn't know what that is), and let the microphone do its work!
Microphones do NOT pick up the ambient noise, and it's NOT necessary to shout into them! Speaking normally is all which is required. EVEN IF YOU ARE IN A NOISY ENVIRONMENT, THERE IS NO NEED TO SHOUT INTO THE MIKE!
Excellent camera work, and OK audio - but the commentators make no effort at all to explain what the various noises on the boats signify, and we have no way of knowing what they are.
I sincerely hope all this stuff gets sorted out before the AC races take place. It won't be much fun, otherwise!
have to unsub to America's cup as some idiot in charge of the internet content is doing old-school internet desiaster - re-uploading old content as new.
Back in the days we boys called that strategy "spam".
I follow different channels from now - those that are actually reporting. I wish America's cup PR team the best of luck in the amateurish future.
Oh hey - I brushed my teeth once in late December - let your PR team think about that for a while
🤣😅😂😄🤣
This isn't sailing. Bring back the Jclass and get this Xbox garbage out of here.
Come out of your cave. These boats are great!
How exactly is it "not sailing"?
Put Down the keyboard gramps.
Correct. These dolphin slicers are an engineering curiosity worth checking out for a few minutes but why you would care to watch them "race" is a complete mystery and a greater mystery still is why anybody would care who wins -except, from a NZ perspective, it would be quite nice to get rid of this rubbish at last.
I look forward to the next AC... no crew onboard, software & the computer ‘sailing’ these boats; and maybe 🤔, no commentators.
