I own a 2023 Chrysler 300C, while I was at the dealership service department I was wanting to know if a kill switch or an expensive alarm system would invalidate my warranty. They explained this fix for Chrysler so I thought it was a good idea to have it done right then and there. This patch took only about 10 minutes to do, he just plugged something into the computer and played with his phone a little and it was done. I don't care about any updates I come from a generation that you get what you get when you buy a car and that's it. I'm not one to lose my key fob, I just don't want to come out from the mall and find my car gone. The tradeoff is feeling more secure about my car versus maybe an inconvenience in the future. I hope this helps

I got this same letter in the mail the other day. I also asked two separate dodge dealers if they could update my valet mode to the new update to reduce it to 2.8 HP, they said they had no idea what I was talking about smh. I also recommend getting a faraday box, I use one and it works perfectly by blocking the signal from your fob to your car. It basically does what the update is supposed to do.

My 2 cents is this. Get the update. With chip shortage and productions issues on the platforms, it is extremely difficult getting a replacement car in the queue ahead of the ready sold units awaiting production. If your car gets stolen in the short future of the life of these cars, and it can't be recovered and your insurance issues you a check for a replacement, you may be hard pressed to find a new or used vehicle to replace the one you lost and then you're screwed. So get the update and don't worry about uconnect graphics and such. Your remote start still works for those cold winter days. Every major city has a big problem with these cars getting stolen mainly from the outskirts. I have an appointment to get mine done I am not worried about losing a key fob and if I do and I need the module replaced so be it It's not all that expensive. It is pretty accessible but I won't explain where it is. Furthermore the expense of having your car stolen is huge not to mention the inconvenience especially if you're out of town when it happens. I showed how to update the Uconnect it's just a matter of using a USB drive and going to their website. It is the 1st step you do before updating your GPS system and map software. I have had my car for 3 years have no issues with it and I don't want anything to change sometimes software updates break other things. In my opinion locking this down IMO is an excellent short term solution however, It's just a matter of time before the thieves bring an extra module with them which hopefully is not faster than programming a new key fob. I also think many of the fears they put in the letter are so that not everybody wants to go and get it done all at once. You can keep yours unlocked I'm locking mine down.

I've got a 2019 Daytona 392 (took delivery in Jan of 2019), and have only seen 1 UConnect update. I've also recently received the letter for getting it locked. They are only locking the RF module, so theoretically, you should still be able to take it to a dealer and have them update the software over OBD, if there ever is one. It sucks because all manufacturers run on outdated hardware, which the chip makers themselves have called them out for. If they just "come to the 21st Century," with it, there would be more security built-in. It still is bad on Dodge if all it takes is hijacking/duplicating a RF signal. They should have built-in encryption/checks along with that RF signal to ensure it is only coming from a legit registered Keyfob.
As Kobi said, just get the update. What it locks isn't a huge deal, unless you are just bad at keeping track of your keys. It is easier to protect your car, than to lose it in the current market, and hope that you can get a replacement.

My dad owned alot of dodge cars in the past. He owns a durango, stratus, grand caravan and some more. He said he won't buy another dodge again, maintly due to reliability and bad resell value. Not sure if its the same today. His dodge experience was from maby 95-07. After we sold our 98 durango we got an 03 kia sorento, then we were looking around at another durango, acura mdx, bmw xt or x7. Then we saw and Audi Q7. My dad really liked it. My dad was a big fan of dodge because his whole car lineup was 2 chevys and 2 dodges. Let me know if the issue my dad talked about changed then maby my dad may trade in the Q7 for a durango SRT or get a durango!

If it gets stolen, it's going to be extremely hard to get another one considering there's still a chip shortage and they're going to stop making these cars in the very near future (I think 2023 is going to be the last model year).

I got the update, the only issue I’m having is that it’s throwing an engine code. I had the throttle body replaced. And it through the code again. Some forums are saying it’s due to the cold (it’s been below 30f) and using the remote starter and that’s it’s cleared up on it’s own when it’s warm. At this point I have no regrets. I’d rather have a issue that dodged cause and the car is secure, than a issue I caused with some aftermarket security system and now I’m coming out of pocket for repairs.

A little safer in an understatement. The easiest way by far to steal the car is thru the computer, or neutral release. Sleeping a lot better these days with a phab sleeve knowing they can’t erase my key. Fastest one I’ve seen stolen was like 45 seconds. The updates usually freeze the radio anyway, minor set back to have the dealership update it. Also you get 3 keys in a cat 👿. Don’t give these thieves free Wi-Fi updates when your car is gone, and if they find it you will probably need a new window and key re-programming…

The Security Software Update clearly has a huge benefit; that is denying thieves the ability to replicate a "FOB" and then take (steal) the car. I would imagine that once the RF Hub is locked, there must be a method in which any future updates could be directly downloaded into the vehicle by the dealer at the dealership (re: Dealership's Computer connected directly to vehicle and then any new future software updates for the vehicle could then be done). Regarding having more than 2 FOBs: I suppose that some folks might want to get a 3rd (or 4th?) FOB made before locking the RF Hub; personally I'm fine with just the original 2 FOBs, as I keep the 2nd FOB secured at home, and not close to or near my vehicle is garaged (garage not attached to house). Thoughts, comments?
