I was straightening my hair while watching this and I when the squarespace section came up the little crackling segway noise made me think I burned all my hair off 😭😭
😂😂😂
I am in my bed, under the sheets eating peaches and cherries while watching you. I could never get bored of you talking.
we're the same person!!
Dakota mentioning how much frontal lobe development improved her life gives me hope. I can’t wait to be 25 and feel normal!
more recent studies show it can take as long as 28; so don’t loose hope if 25 isn’t the magic number
idk if its just me but i loved hearing her little talk about sociopathy and love at the end. I would love for dakota to make videos just chatting about philosophical things like this
It's not just a metaphor!! Tarrare was a real historical figure!! I don't know much about him but there's been some media on his life already - one quite unnerving puppet show if I remember rightly. He has fascinated people throughout history, this book looks so exciting!!
i am taken aback, I have never heard anyone who is not czech talk about czech movies (especially a movie like Daisies how did you even discover it?) or literature. Which is a shame because we have a lot of great authors, movies and books. I am now going to write a list of recommendations that no one asked for because I love these pieces (however i don’t know whether the movies have english subtitles neither if the books are translated).
the Cremator (Spalovač mrtvol) by Ladislav Fuks - a book and a movie it´s insane just watch it or read it
Pelíšky (Cozy dens i think in english?) - a lot of families watch this movie on christmas even though it´s not a christmas movie and i always cry at least three times it follows 3 families living dutiny the communist éra
Kytice by Karel Jaromír Erben - creepy beautiful poems
there is a lot more if anyone would be interested those are the most famous and the best ones according to me
Ooh she's on a roll, folks!
With these back to back rec videos my TBR and TBW is getting jam packed.
The Dreamers is fantastic! It's actually a book written by Gilbert Adair which was inspired by Jean Cocteau's book, The Holy Terrors (Which I also love!)
I can't believe it's been a month since your last wrap up - the months are flying past. I want to read so bad but I have so many exams to revise for so I'm in my reading flop era
same😞, summer will be full of reading
REALL I get so immersed when I read that everything else gets neglected and my book is all I can think about when I'm not reading it, so reading in assignment season is a strict no lol, here's to summer reading time!!
@@Jasmine-bg5cu yes!! im so excited do u have any planned reads??
5:18 if you want to read annie ernaux’s diary, you have to read getting lost!! it’s quite literally the diary she kept while she was having the affair she writes about in simple passion hehe
I'm sending forth my Apollonian wishes laced with summer's warmth as you weave together your soon-to-be novel in the here and now. Charles Bukowski, as you rightfully summed it up: a hit or miss I suppose you can't go wrong with Ada Limon, who is the current US Poet laureate. She's in that post for a reason!
stumbled onto a post from 20 seconds ago i feel so special
omg yaaay! I gasp from joy when i see your notifications! much love ❤
im OBSESSED with that top!!!!
Always a good day when Dakota uploads
Thank you for the recommendations☺️ And I’m glad you included the bit about your experience with love, very relatable❤
the passion is so so good!!!
Such a good book haul- the book about Lucien Freud sounds fascinating! So glad you loved The Dreamers ❤❤
i would love to you discussing some of your favorite poetry dakota, that would be amazing
yesss I've been needing some new films to watch, i can never find anything interesting enough.
Would die for a video about surrealist art/writing!!! I’m coming up with ideas for submissions to your journal and this prompt is inspiring my writing (and consuming) so much💜💜
I would love to hear you talk about surrealism! Whenever the inspiration strikes or when you have energy
OMG! I love your recommendations so much! 🩵🫶🏻🩵❤️🌈💙
I love love love love these wrap-ups
i recently purchased dakota’s poetry book and it was so good omg
where did u get it from?
Yay!!! More book and film recs! I love your channel!!
Girl Dakota posted !🏃🏾♀️💨💨
Dakota you must must must watch The Last Unicorn if you have not already!!! It is a kids film, but it is the most beautiful metaphor for girlhood and life it is lovely.
I watched The Dreamers as a young teenager and oh boy, it changed my brain chemistry forever 🙈
I saw The Glutton in the bookshop and immediately thought 'this is the kind of book that Dakota would pick up' when I read the blurb and you did! I also read the start of Sociopath in the bookshop and it's been on my mind ever since so I definitely want to go back and pick it up! I like the way Stephen Fry tells the stories in Mythos (bought it from Topping & Co. after ur Edinburgh show, funnily enough) and because it's lots of little stories, instead of one long immersive one, it might be good for while you're editing because it doesn't take over your mind as much- you don't seem to be in the mood for it yet though!
The Art of objects I am definitely checking it out I love poetry ❤😊❤
If you liked grey gardens there's a film version with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange, it is just as brilliant, I highly highly recommend x
SO EXCITED!! 😊❤
you are a fairy ! I want to learn french so this came in handy, thank you so much 💌
I love DAISIES, too. I need to buy the Criterion disc.
I'm currently reading Celia Paul´'s "Letters to Gwen John" very inspiriiing / connected with Lucian Freud's daughter's memoir
oh man, i love your recs. i read one poetry book by bukowski bc of you. it was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. i even started writing poems myself.
Cinema Paradiso and Grey Gardens are both so great!
best channel posted hooray
i haven't watched you in a while and your action is becoming so english omg
I’m just going to throw this out there in hopes of someone having a recommendation. I have an intense obsession with the show Bojack Horseman, and would love to experience any book that has similar themes, but also carries the same acute knowledge of the social and political backdrop that help prop up these things. If anyone has any way to point me in a direction please help😭😭 I’ve been craving a book in this form😞 anyway loved the video! I will be adding these to my never ending list as well!
video essay yes, surrealism, yes please
18:14 lmfao whattt insane sentence
The Dreamers is one of the films I recommended to you on your literature and film recs video a month ago! ngl when I saw you log it on Letterboxd I (delusionally) was like 'oh she got this from me' as if you couldn't just watch it of your own fruition, lol 🙃
I'll reiterate my recommendation of Band of Outsiders, which is a Godard film referenced/paid homage to in The Dreamers.
I loved your video, definitely going to watch ‘Lady Macbeth’ and read ‘Naked Portrait’.
Made my day 🩷
I really enjoyed the movie Princess cyd, its full of beautiful love, poetry, relationships and rawness
I am wearing pajama shorts that match your shirt. They are frilly and make me feel like I am a picnic to be had.
A few comments for this video are so strange, lol. Anyways, another great video as always. Thank you for sharing your experiences and views on life.
And The Dreamers is an amazing film, I enjoyed it. Will be adding some of these recommendations to my reading and watching lists. Thank you, Lady Dakota!
Would love to hear your thoughts on surrealism in a video!
you remind me so much of anne from anne with an e
Just read Margaret the First by Danielle Dutton. Very different than the piece you picked up, but I love her writing! Enjoy!
