    MP3 CD players were quite common in late 90's, and they all featured some volatile memory, when playing MP3s it was used to store full tracks of music without the necessity of spinning the disc, that was spun periodically just to read and buffer the track, since they had that amount of RAM they used it as well to "buffer" CD tracks, in the first seconds the CD spun fast to preload some 60 or 120 seconds of track, then the track was read from RAM and the CD continued to read some time ahead and had the time to correct an eventual loss of track, if it eventually ran out of buffer, (if the player was shaken for a long amount of time) it spun again at high speed and recouped the buffer, obviously they had the plus of reading CD-RW, so you could use them as a sort of iPod, some could even optionally be used with rechargeable batteries and had a switch to avoid trying to recharge alkaline batteries ;-D

      @lestranged Před 2 lety

      I had one that played mp3 discs in the early 2000s too. It was great for traveling because you could just bring one disc and have hundreds of songs. It was less expensive than an ipod at the time.

    careful with ram based shock protection, often these units will use compression to get longer times. I've got an early 2000s cd walkman, comes with ESP, and the compression is audible. Most of the time though, the toggle to turn off the shock protection doesnt actually disable the protection, it simply disables the compression, and gives you a shorter ESP time. Even while hiking, an old chip of ram with no compression is more than enough to play even a scratched old cd-r reliably, assuming the batteries aren't getting flat. Plus, rechargable batteries in most old units will actually charge while the unit is on power, so you'll never have to open the battery compartment again. My own even has a power requirement within the range of USB, so I just found the right barrel jack to type a converter, and it runs out of anything. I even sometimes run it off my phone with an otg lead. The real selling point of your model to me is really the headphone splitter. And honestly, I'd rather find a unit with digital out, and get an external splitter.

    Neat portable CD player, Recordology! However, I need to disagree with you regarding the rechargeable battery. I used to enjoy sitting out in the back-yard lawn-swing while sipping my Scotch-On-The-Rocks and enjoying my portable Sony CD player under the headphones. Let me tell you, though, there was nothing worse than just getting started and having the built-in rechargeable battery crap out on the spot. It took a good 4 hours to recharge the damned thing, so.... so much for cocktail hour and tunes. My current Sony portable CD player operates on one AA battery! If it should die in the middle of cocktail hour, I simply pop out the dead AA battery, insert a new one,.and VOILA -- I'm back in business! I buy my AA batteries in bulk at Sam's Club which last seemingly forever at a cost of next-to-nothing compared to over-priced batteries bought at a regular store. Just wanted to let you know that rechargeable batteries are time-consuming. And they also hold less and less of a charge as time goes on. BTW, you look good in orange!!!!

    • @Crazyreviewer123
      @Crazyreviewer123 Před rokem +1

      I agree with that. One of my portable dvd players no longer last like it use to and now needs to be charged twice or even 3 times when it would last up to 6 hours on a full charge it’s a SONY FX970 9 inch and the battery is built in to the unit and since it’s a old dvd player I can’t send it out for a battery replacement since it would cost more than what it’s worth and since it takes a special battery I just keep it and plug it in it only last about 2 hours before the low battery light starts flashing. I replaced that Sony with a new one but still il have the same issue with the new dvd player down the line.

      That's a concern of mine too. Rather than a built-in rechargeable battery, I'd rather that you put in two standard rechargeable AA or AAA batteries (like nickle-metal hydride) that you can charge in the player. That way you can replace the batteries when they wear out.
      When I used a portable CD/MP3 player that's what I used. I'd carry two sets of spare rechargeable batteries so I'd always have fresh batteries when needed. The only disadvantage is that they had a shorter play time on a charge, about half of that of disposable alkaline batteries. I rarely had to buy new batteries, and in an emergency I can just buy a pair of disposable batteries that are available everywhere.

    Hello Mr. Record-ology. Tell me why an in bound battery is a great feature? In my opinion this is the most "stupid" thing to do. Imagine you are in the middle of an audiobook or on your way to work, in the train... and then the battery runs low or even dies. Boum, you are screwed. In the first case you need to recharge, in the second you have discard the device. With AA accumulators this never happens. Only take a second pair of batteries with you, or at home charge the second set while you use the first one. This common solution is so much more comfortable. I think that an inbound battery is a huge step back into the direction of non -reusable devices, what we see more and more in electronics.
    Greetings F.

My main set has a 50mm drivers and even with a headphone amp, it barely delivers. I'm trying another one to see and will update. I don’t know about this, but I’ve been looking for a CD player that can connect to that Trond Bluetooth transmitter that I saw off of Amazon. Yeah, could be something that has more seconds of anti-Skip than 60 seconds. I’m sure any of them will do. I’m saying this because I don’t use the car radio and my dad‘s 2021 RAV4, but I feel like I need to use it not just for when I’m listening from my iPhone, and it’s got to have a carrying pouch. If it had to be some CD player that has more than 60 seconds of anti-Skip, maybe even 2 minutes, I would have to tell mom that I need to save some more money for this in order to add more dollars to my Amazon account, because what you might have there is going to be pricey, like it could be $70 or more. I am having this for my birthday wish on March 21.

    Do MP3’s skip?,,,never had a MP3 player....till I phone...lol ...I was never a huge cd guy.... I always ended up scratching the hell out of them... but it is good to see any and all physical media getting love... another great review buddy

    • @xaenon
      @xaenon Před 4 lety +1

      No, they won't skip. It appears to be functionally very similar to one I had back in 2005(? I think?), though mine had considerably less memory capacity and ran on 3 regular AA alkalines (and it didn't like rechargeables, either).
      Since most songs are less than 5 min (300 seconds), it'll simply read the Mp3 into memory and decode it from there. If the song exceeds memory capacity, it'll play until it's almost out of memory, then load more of the song and continue to play, usually without interruption, and then the disc will spin back down. I don't think I ever played a regular CD in it, so I can't remark on its anti-skip behavior
      Pretty nifty little player. Apparently some unknown person also thought so, 'cause it got filched from my desk at work. I had like six MP3 CDs, which each had 120-150 songs each (basic 128k bitrate, averaging about 3-1/2 minutes each, I guess).

      I got mine last week. It's my first portable CD player in at least 11 years or more I felt like going old school again and don't feel like carrying a portable DVD player to listen to my CDs so this CD player does the job and looks pretty cool. Battery life is good as well. Overall I'm enjoying it so far

    Unfortunately this CD player seems like it’s junk, atleast the one I have. Hiss and static noise in the background most of the time, random poping noises. It won’t read some of the songs properly on a given disc. This is all happening while the player is sitting flat on a table and I’m not moving it… it’s not even usable.

    I'm sorry. I have the stop this video at 1:28 because I can't get over how excited this grown man get's when he opens things up. He goes crazy with excitement! It's like he's lived on some other planet and never opened up an electronic device inside of a box before with manuals and accessories and the unit itself and how it's packed in and how cool the box is and all that! I am age 55 and I'm terrible with guessing ages and I will not guess this man's a but he has to be probably at least around 20 years younger than me maybe even more but he's still a grown man and he freaks out when opening new things! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Have this one. Ditch the ear buds - they do nothing for it. I use a pair of Sony micro headphones from the late 80's and the sound is much better. The EQ hardly does anything. The charging light can be seen when charging - when it changes the led is not viewable unless you tilt the machine at an angle to see. No stop button! It has the retro Panasonic look going for it. Sound - not as good as the old Sony's and Panasonics. Battery charged only - when it goes the whole unit has to be ditched. Another downside to this type charging is, it will need charging when you don't use it or I guess the battery will die unlike a player that takes separate batteries than can be removed when stored. This is just a throwback to the old days of cd. I bought it from Amazon.
    If someone is not used to good quality - then this is for them. I am still old fashioned and use cd's - will be interesting how long this will live - My old Sony and Panasonic is still going after 20 odd years. I like the very retro fake wood effect and styling. Remember get rid of the horrible ear pieces - they sound crap!
    Used the unit first time today and either headphones or lead into portable speaker, this thing keeps stopping on it's own. Battery was fully charged this morning and is showing empty after five hours use on normal volume.
    It's going back to Amazon.
    Stick with the reputable companies.
