you gunna have to come at me with a leaping hook n if i dont see that i dont need to be in the ring i need to go back to the gym. idk why but i just laughed so hard when he said that.
me too!
Thanks for the tip. I had an intense Muay Thai fight a while ago and I realize that I need some improvement on my boxing skills. I'm gonna focus on improving this aspect of my game in preparation for my next fight. Thanks.
I gotta thank Charles for really sharing his knowledge. He's a true southpaw and a professional so he really understands that match-up.
Box sings....
Block with your left elbow, or lean out of the way, or step out of the way, or pivot out of the way.
I follow both of your pages here on youtube amazing that y'all got together so now we have 2 schools of thought
noted and thanks for tips
Good video I study a lot of film and coaches working together is good to see hope to see more
I agree more southpaw stuff! got your book and reading through. it's a great read and I recommend it to everyone, just wish there was more stuff specific to southpaws!
Please keep doing more SP videos! You don't realize how rare GOOD ones are from a SOUTHPAW PERSPECTIVE.
Thanks. I will. Right now I am focusing on the ground game; however, once I get back to "stand-up" training, I think I will focus on standard boxing.
The techniques still work even for shorter guys.
good tips here
Great channel. I hope to take some boxing lessons one day. It is a devastating martial art. When karate got started with full contact fighting in the 70's, a karate heavy weight champ got soundly beaten by a boxing journeyman with minimal karate training.
Hey Johnny. This is a pretty general question as I know everyone is different, but on average, how long would you say it would take someone relatively new to boxing to be able to have their first fight? Say if they begun in February, twice or 3 times a week in gym plus fitness training outside the gym, would they be ready to fight in June? Thanks.
I have to ask, what specific stuff were you looking for?
also for a south paw to land a beautiful straight left down the pipe . the southpaw should have a range finding jab in the opponents face for a quick second while stepping their right foot to the outside of the orthodox fighters left foot and boom!!!down the middle just watch lara and holly holm or even conor mcgegor
Watch Rigondeaux that's the best example
Eh there's multiple ways to do it man also how u doin 5 years later ? 😅
Give it a try. Boxing is a highly evolved fighting art. Painful as hell but lots of fun if you make it past the learning curve.
well I don't know.. I'm new to boxing.. coming from muay thai I did for a year or so and had two amature muay thai fights, but now I'm more interested in boxing and awaiting doing my first fight but doing pretty well at my gym with sparring and I would love to know more secret tips, things orthodox fighters have a hard time dealing with. and now I see, you have a bunch of stuff for southpaws available online for free. but really any more that you want to contribute is really appreciated!
i am thinking of buying new shoes but sadly i don't have the money to buy both boxing shoes and running shoes are there any good shoes you could recommend ? i would use the shoes i have now for running but it hurts like hell when i run with them
Rigondeaux has that awesome slick movement. Killer precision, left hand comes scary straight down the middle. Donaire was awesome, too....just that Rigondeaux has too much movement for him.
FINALLY!!!!!
It depends on your training. Everyone reverts to their most natural response in times of stress. If you've been trained well, your natural response will be the correct response.
Yo Johnny! What did you think of the Donaire Rigondeaux fight last night?
Yeaup. All the online boxing superheroes in one video.
You should post up a video of you boxing!!
Can you rephrase this question?
Thanks Joe, we appreciate the comment.
Dang are you guys trying to start the avengers?
straight to the body. defense for southpaws?
Ay that foo down
2:34 is why rigondeaux was knocked down off that pivot, he should've slipped left and pivoted or kept his guard up
He is the undefeated world champ and a legend. But even legends got rocked a few times, same with mayweather, or pacquiao, etc. When you have hundred if not thousand of punches throw at you per fight by someone just elite as you, multiple that for 40-50 times. It will happens.
As for moving left, rigondeaux did it too. An elite fighter isn't 1 dimensional.
Brock McClain Duh. I know that.
Make A Video On How To Beat A Better Boxer
That what reg did last night circled the "wrong" way!
expertboxing The way your southpaw criticizes moving & slipping to the right is misleading cuz he appears to be a long range boxer. He wouldn't end up blocking those right hands if he moved towards his opponent and closed distance while slipping to his right which is ideal for getting inside. I suspect this lefty prefers being on the outside, moving to your right isn't as hopeless as he makes it appear.
Pacquiao often goes to the right like you're saying
orangeiceice12 pacquiao actually moves to left quite often to confuse his opponents lol attacking from both angles
orangeiceice12 yeah most south paws do because it's technically correct . But fighting south paw you have to be used to going both directions and constantly moving much more than and orthodox fighter would
Ikr ? Like why should i move to the left and get closer to his power punch ? Not to mention that my power punch now could become further away from him.
Your chances in a fight depends on how long your opponents have been training. If your opponents only trained for 3 months, then I guess you're fine. If your opponents have been training for 3 years, then you're in trouble. You won't know until you watch a local amateur fight yourself and see where you are.
Charles is a tall person with long arms so I guess he can easily keep the distance from his opponent. How could a southpaw do the same when boxing with someone with similar height and range?
but I know I do something wonder specific things, maybe next time I'm wondering... if you'll be so kind I can ask you!
lmao pretty soon we'll be seeing ehow and expert village on these videos
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO QUIT SMOKING WEED FOR TO START AND ALSO I BEEN CLEAN OFF CIGS THO FOR 5 YRS I JUST WANT TO START BOXING IM TALL 6'2 180 PNDS
yeeaa
It doesn't if you're well-trained. I'm pretty sure Mayweather's shit stays in his muscle memory.
I recommend boxing shoes. If you're going to get something else, that's on you.
Very dangerous to push the jab down. I'll catch the jab but to push it down leaves you open to a counter. I'd bait you with that.
NEVERRRRRR!
Epic if this goes out the window then you shouldn't be fighting this is basic shit
Is Charles last name Chaplin? Shit lol
Both did well. Rigondeaux did better.
STIs guy is probably very talented but I have no idea what he is saying
kid in the background lmao keep distracting me
