Yeah, it was not his fault that Pop tried to make him go from playing PF to now playing PG in the NBA. I think though that helped his development as far as just understanding the offense and passing and handling the ball. I think next year he is going to make a jump and surprise a lot of people
It's a hot take because Castle is both a better defender, a better player, oh and was part of actual winning last year, something the Spurs or Holland and the G-League Ignite didn't learn a lot about last year.
Well UCON won last year so you also have to take that in account as far as Holland you can't blame him on how shitty the coaching of the Ignite was. I like both players as I think they are probably the top 3 best defensive players not a center in this draft so will see what the Spurs think...
I ain't gonna lie I wasn't on the sochan train but he has grown on me and is gonna be a solid peace going foward.
I like sochan to fit a Draymond type of role (with less anger issues)
I just have the feeling we are taking castle at 4 and honestly man I wouldn’t hate it

(as of late February 2024, not gonna bother looking up them for the last 10 games.. but they should be even better if you count the full season, Jeremy and the Spurs as a whole played much better in march)
His impact was much bigger last season but its not visible to the casual hate sheeps because his ppg is the same and thats all they do. Watch boxscores and YT highlights.
They ignore tho that he played point guard for half the season (for the first time in his life) and had to guard the best player on the other end every time he stepped on the floor.

If I’m being honest, Sochan seems to be going in the draymond role but tbh he definitely is more skilled offensively scoring wise

Awesome interview! Many people been praising Wemby for his demeanor and high IQ interview answers but Sochan is also a very good talker dude. I hope he's a Spur for life!

I actually like Holland. Imagine a lineup of Jones, Vassell, Holland, Sochan, Wemby. It's niceeee IF, IF, .Sochan can continue to improve his shooting coz he is and Holland can also develop a solid shooting percentage.

Los Drafteados is one of the best channel of basketball in Europe. I love them. And they like Wemby. Which is a miracle for the Spanish.

there are teams who rush it with trades such as dallas and minnesota , but it is because they got the personnel or assets to do that which spurs do not have

@@jordanhartmann9948 of course it’s opinion, but I’ve done more hard research this year than any other year and holland at 4 would be a waste. I wouldn’t hate it at 8, even though I would prefer either dillingham or salaun, but 4 is crazy.

Ron Holland is most likely not going to be their at 8. Blazers most likely will pick him at 7 is he is still available. If i have to pick between Castle and Ron Holland Castle is more likely to drop to 8 than Ron Holland. Castle is refusing to work out with teams with starting level point guards so that basically rule out alot of teams picking before the Spurs. Washington need a point guard but 2 is a little high to take Castle so i dont think they will take him.

Yea I agree with Ron Holland. Even if his shooting % is low he makes up for it on defense which would translate to getting more stops that can lead to more offensive possessions, plus his slashing ability and strength are a great asset as well

The Holland hate is a little overblown, he was in system where he wasn’t given the right tools to actually improve his game and you can’t teach the physical tools or work ethic he has, I think the Spurs could really use an athlete like him. Like how are you so high on Castle and so low on Holland when they’re basically the same archetype player.

the biggest problem with Ron Holland is you now have TWO guys around wemby that are horrible from deep teams will make them shoot every single time every single possession. Ron wouldnt be ok at 8 but 4 when we already have a superstar and should be drafting on fit around him would be strange

Ron Holland jump shot looks super broken. Plus he's from the G league which is historically disappointing for top draft picks. If you want that type of player I'd be much more interested in Stephon Castle, who at least has nicer mechanics.

I disagree, to me it makes perfect sense that the older fans are the ones that don’t understand what it really takes
They’re the ones that are the real spoiled Spurs fans that are used to winning 50+ games every season. That saw an already pseudo contender in the 90s with Robinson and then after only one bad year got Duncan and were full on contenders. Then, we’re able to get Tony and Manu with the last pick in the first round and second to last pick in the second round if I’m not mistaken
It was the most annoying thing when we were tanking for Wemby and so many Spurs fans just wanted to win. After every game it was acting like the world was ending and Spurs just needed to grab every win they possible could. I noticed a lot of the other Spurs fans still thought that draft picks don’t matter cause we’ll make a star out of whatever pick not realizing how much the other organizations have caught up in scouting

@@AstralScourge Kawhi Leonard was a defensive wing that didn’t have a jumper too. Not saying Holland will develop to the same extent, but guys can evolve.

imo it's apples to oranges comparing a lead playmaking guard to an athletics forward. Topic will have the ball in his hands alot. Has almost no game tape of him as an offball player. He projects as many tiers lower on the defensive side and athletic side and has an injury history. I also buy completely that both Topic and Holland will develop an above average jumper but Topic as the lead ball handler has a very set shot that would shock me if he develops to be an off the dribble pull up threat, which is ideal for a point guard. Holland as an offball player won't need that in his bag to reach expectations. Also i think there's something to be said about looking for players that can be successful without the ball being we want Wemby and Devin to take on an even bigger role. Now if Clan would've compared Castle and Holland then I can see your point being those are more similar traits being no matter how much Castle wants to be a lead guard idk many teams that aren't going to use him as a tweener between a guard and a wing till he proves he's a PG.

I don’t think Jeremy playing point was necessarily an “experiment.” Defensively.. perhaps. I think it was meant to force Wemby and Jeremy out of their comfort zones.
It made Wemby learn how to find his own looks
It made Jeremy a better ball handler and passer

I agree. It was part of his development. He needed to get used to speed in NBA and needed to improve his ballhandling skills. He needed to also learn floor spacing and blocking. That was a good exercise for him.
