You can really see in these old videos just how much the Queen mother loved being a Grandmother. She was constantly keeping her eye on Charles, touching his hand, and smiling at him. Queen Elizabeth, on the other hand, always seemed a bit awkward and uncomfortable around her kids when they were small.
That's what happens when you raise your children by nannies. They don't know how to act when they get children of their own.
@Stella Musafiri Ive remember read somewhere that the royal family is probably the only family who's children who made it through the modern centuries yet still raised their children according to 18th century ways. I think that's marvelous in how they manage not to evolve child raising but it has bad consequences on modern princes.
King Charles has said him and his mother always had a business-like relationship, not so much a mother-son relationship.
NOT true. She was holding baby Anne, she couldn't attend to Charles at the sane time. The queen was a caring and devoted mother and grandmother.

The queen was a very beautiful young woman as was her sister and mother. And in their day so were the then Queen ( The Queen Mum) , Queen Mary ( The Queen's Grandmother) and Princess Alice ( Prince Philip's mother) Princess Ann was a beautiful young woman in her own right. Princess Anne was an adorable baby and toddler.

Princess Alice looks so peaceful. Hard to believe King George and Queen Mary pass away in a very short time after this film. Princess Anne was an adorable baby.

I am not surprised that His Royal Highness Prince Charles when he was small would go to Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth rather than his mother Princess Elizabeth. He did not see much of his mother at that time so really so a bond with her was difficult to develop

With the movie cameras there she was never going to be seen doing that lol. In fact she was actually very kind and gentle compared to her husband King George V who was very cold and a brute at times to his own children.

You are living in a dream world. 1950 wasn't a happy time - rationing still in force. Compulsory national service for men. The country was still verging on bankruptcy after the war. Five years after the war ended, areas of the country were still waste ground after bombing during the war. People who were gay were put into prison. Divorce was seen as a disaster for someone. In school children had corporal punishment. The list goes on.
