I have been using the Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 3 for the past 4 years. Not a single problem. (RAM is soldered so max out on the RAM if you intend to buy).
However just last month some of the most used keys on the keyboard stopped working. I suspect hardware's fatigue/fatigue
It's great for minimal work; web browsing, office related tasks, enjoying multimedia content.
You can bypass the TPM 2.0 issue with a simple script to install windows 11.

Wanted the T480s but weirdly the exhaust fan is on the right hand side which I don't like. So I went for the T480. Plan to do some upgrade. Thanks for the video.

I'd say that more comparable spec-wise to T480 is Carbon gen6 or gen7, and it already can be found for somewhat similar price. Concerning upgradability I'd say it's a bit overrated, nowadays for day-to-day tasks 8gb is pretty much enough, especially if you're using Linux, so if you'll get 16gb unupgradeble machine you'll be okay for a long time. And if/when you'll face the tasks which really need more than 16 gigs, most probably the CPU in this machines would be not sufficient for this tasks anyway. Of course it's very individual, thing but for me when I'm choosing laptop the first thing is portability, so my choice here is Carbon, but somewhat newer than gen3 of course.
You just convice me of buying a X1 Carbon.

for video editing you would want a somewhat decent GPU. the T480 intel integrated GPU is just not going to cut it for video editing. you could hook up an eGPU but this is not really something people would recommend.

P series like P53 is better it has more raw power it good for work related, T series is more of general proposed it's better in gaming for example.
you need a gpu for that, t480 is great for school, development and anything that doesn't require a gpu.

I got the t580 I found the perfect spec for my needs which will be 512 GBSSD 32 GB ram and an i7 processor. I paid less than $400 and hopefully I won’t need to go in it.😂

A new asus vivobook 14 with same specs and 1TB and new core ultra 5 (not the OLED S model)
Primarily for browsing, lightweight coding and lots of writing/reading.
without thinking i will naturally just go with the x1 carbon. i own the x1 carbon, its a super cool ultra book, well built, great keyboard, sleek. Honestly have not held the asus vivobook in my hands, so will be hard to tell 😉
