      Very optimistic view. Personally, I think many of them are legitimately taking mental health breaks due to all of their success steadily crumbling away, regardless if they did anything wrong or not, or Kurosanji management just gave a bunch of EN members "mandated breaks" since the EN branch has pretty much destroyed their reputation as a company irreparably. Ey, something I can actually make mention of.
    I work in the marketing departure in the western branch of a japanese company. Japenese companies often get even screenshots removed as it's their culture. Any company, such as Hololive, which understand the western market won't do that. It's their copyrighted material so they can choose to have it removed or not. The economic beneficial route would be to allow pictures, but a lot of Japanese companies are set in their ways. Cover really is a breath of fresh air to me. The company I work for has gone as far as multiple times having the pictures WE post to advertise for them removed. It is quite literally the most frustating part of my job.

    • @bz7672
      @bz7672 Před měsícem +18

      @@Masitu0031 god damn, I had such lengthy reply to this youtube wouldn't let me post it. Never knew youtube had a post limit.
      have a long answer: TL;DR Most japanese companies will take down pictures etc even if they have some interest in the west. Most japanese companies with significant interest in expanding an internatial market or have already done so will allow the free advertisement if they are not hampered down by stubborn sistercompanies, partners or managers. It is common practice, but the western influence on this subject is (in babysteps) changing the current japanese business practices, more often if they are led by younger managers or managers with international working experience.
      Keep in mind, I only work for one company with one type of product and thus can't accurately make claims about other companies (even though I did in fact do that)
      honestly, it depends on the company. Yes, this is the case in a vast majority of japanese companies. However this is mostly companies without a branch outside of Japan, or sometimes a few other Asian countries. The number of companies that do this lower when you start looking at companies that have a European, Canadian or American branch (probably other places too but I can't attest to that). However, even with companies that have these branches I do think (I don't actually have numbers) the majority often still do this. It also depends on if they see the western market as important to their bottom line.
      My company for example (I am not allowed to reveal it's name on the internet while under contract) does not see a lot of money come from it's western expansion and thus does not really care to learn the ins- and outs. It is still beneficial to them and makes them a profit so my job is pretty secure, however it does not have much of a possibility to expand and maintain profits. Unfortunately this has consequeses to how they do business even in other markets (still stupid they claim copyrightes material from their own company).
      Meanwhile other companies, such as forexample New Japan Pro Wrestling also tend to take down a lot of gifs and pictures. They have (or at least had before the pandemic and an increase in the quality and amount of American based competition, they are rebuilding now) a significant amount of interest into their American expansion (they seem to have pivoted to China, South East Asia and Australia while working on maintaining their current US market to make up for the US market loss). They aren't actually the ones issueing copyright claims, rather, this is done by TV Asahi, who owns the TV rights to New Japan Pro Wrestling in Japan and does not do business outside of Japan. So we have a company who want to expand into the west who are denied free advertising because another company does not.

    • @bz7672
      @bz7672 Před měsícem

      @@Masitu0031 Meanwhile we have companies like Cover, who have significant interest in the west, and have succeeded in that market. They likely have employees whose sole job is understanding the western market and thus will allow pictures, gifs, fanart (yes, some companies will take down even fanart), etc. Cover tends to go even beyond a lot companies in similar positions to it by (somewhat) matching how they do their business overseas with how they do their business at home and highly encourage cross market advertisements. Holo JP is aimed at Japan, Holo ID is aimed at Indonesia and Holo EN is aimed at the entire western culture. These are their main aims. However, as you probably know, they cross these markets. All three branches have found an audiance in all three markets. They have crossed these so significantly see I doubt Yagoo and any other higher-ups at Cover really see these as different markets. They understand that if they treat them the same they triple each branch market.
      A lot of Japanese companies would not do this. In fact, I can also use Cover as a company that doesn't do this by looking at HoloStars. HoloStars and HoloLive barely do any crossover in JP. They do some, but not really any noteworthy amount. ID doesn't have a HoloStars branch (though I imagine if they did they would go about the same way they do with EN rather than JP). Now, EN also doesn't do a lot of HoloStars-HoloLive crossover, but they do more than JP. I think if they had kept JP and EN completely seperate to a degree that HoloEN would have had it's "Holo" part removed with another word, they might have done more colabs between the guys and girls, then again, the product is still vtubers and western fans can get just ad crazy about this as jp idol fans, so I can't be sure.
      Granted, this particular product, vtubers, is a lot easier to do this with than some other companies products.
      I do believe a lot of companies with a significance interest in the western market will allow this. Not only does it work as advertisement to reach a vast amount of potential internatial customers. Most have learned that denying people the right to express themselves is a significant detriment due to the western culture. Statistics have shown that overly copyright claiming can decrease people's want to support that company in the future if their product is average and below. This does not sound significant, but there are a lot of companies with average products. Simply the nature of the beast. Companies that understand western copyright systems will do better even if the quality of the product is about equal when compared to a company that does not even with equal knowledge on both companies (so it's not the free advertisement that is actually beneficial for most companies).
      This doesn't really apply to some companies like Nintendo (as their products are often good enough to nullify this detriment). However, even Nintendo's outlook at copyright is has become more westernised than it used to be. I know from the experiences of some of my friends that not everyone feels the difference, but are taking steps and doing it slowly. If I look at their practices from around the time I was born, the difference is staggering.
      Same goes with some anime distribution companies. They have westernised to a noteworthy level, even if it still seems they are ridiculously far removed, which in all fairness, they still are. Obviously they still copyright claim some abridgeseries and the like, however less so than they used to, and I rarely see them claim singular pictures or soundless gifs anymore, which they used to do a lot.
      These changes these companies have made are starting to seep into the japanese culture at home. Though, it is taking a slow pace and always will take a slow pace. I also highly doubt it will ever match the west's believes to how copyright should be handled. And we will forever complain about it. But small changes really do have a lot impact, even if not noticed by those that don't have to with this on a daily basis.
      Granted, this information should not be taken as fact. I really only have any true knowledge over my own companie's product (toys) and can't even say that I have definitive say on that subject. All information I provided should be taken with a grain of salt as I'm just one person, but I do believe my position in my branch provides me with enough to make accurate gestimations about other companies to a certain extent. There is a reason I did not provide statistics, that being that I simply do not have them and am talking purely on guesses. Informed guesses based on experience, but nonetheless, still guesses. Now on my opinion on Niji based on my zero knowledge on vtuber statistics, metrics, costs and potential and actual profits. Call me for a more knowledgible report when they start selling toys. Their quarterly earnings on that might be noteworthy to me if they start doing that.
      Personally, I believe Niji has been partially abandoning it's non JP markets for a while now. For example merching it's Indonesian and Korean branch into it's Japanese one. I could easily see them hoping that their EN brach would fulfil any new customers coming from those two countries and thus not were not considering it pulling out of the Indonesian and Korean markets. I personally belief Cover is also somewhat doing this with HoloID, but to a far lesser extent than Niji. Then again, I also thought this before gen 3 and they still came out with that and since it was aimed at Indonesia, it was probably profitable. But honestly I am not sure ID is/was making a good enough impact for either AnyColor or Cover. I have zero clues about Vtuber metrics though, so I might be very off. Also, I can easily be clouded by my western view. Indonesia is a giant market. Probably one if not the biggest often overlooked market. It is especially overlooked by the west. Indonesia has enough potential customers that even if something does very badly there it can still make more money than somewhere that same product does good.
      Anyways, I got off-track.
      Niji has in the past allowed screenshots but aren't allowing it now. This is more evidence to them possibly partially pulling out of the western market. I know that even if the entire western market stops supporting them, NijiEN is watched enough by other big markets, such as forexample China. On top of that, I believe the majority of EN talent are multilingual, if necesary they can make a profit by streaming in different languages. Though, that's probably a late option. Niji's most probable prefered option would be a refocus on japan while keeping a foot open into the west at a later time. Probably a few years after, people will forget. They really will. These kind of things happen a lot. Not just japan, internationally as well. As long as they EN keeps making some kind of profit even if it is a singular dollar they might just keep it up. A door ajar is simply cheaper to open than a door closed. Common business tactic. It would probably be better for them if they could just keep it completely open right now but by this point the backlash might be too big for that. If it was just Selen that left under this circumstance and they didn't lose many other livers like Pomu, FoxMom (only remember her new name tbh), Mysta, and such, Niji probably could have kept going and their belief it Selen wouldn't harm their numbers probably would have been right in the long term (even though I hate that). It would have hurt them in the short term, yes, definitely, but one setback, even a giant Selen-sized one, is not large enough to knock over most companies big enough to have international branches. It's often the accumulation of smaller setbacks capped of by a large one that does it. And in this case, the setbacks kept coming, the black screen video (absolutely business malpractice) Pomu and Kyo graduated after, the Uki thing, the Luca thing, now this. Quite frankly, had none of the rest happened, very little people would have cared enough to have not being allowed to make screenshots give a large enough setback. It would have been on vtuber news, people would complain, week would be over, next drama. But people will remember this now. Whenever they list Niji's stupid ideas, they will probably either add "no screenshots" or someone will comment to add it to the list. But this only matters if they care about the western market, which they might have already decided to abandon.
      Hope this provides more than enough information on what you wanted.

I feel the real issue with the screenshots is Niji panicked trying to get ahead of bad PR yet again once they realised they had to push the AR out as-is. No one would have posted screen shots to challenge the official ones if the AR didn't look so janked compared to the official shots. I'm even willing to believe those ones were separately rendered, maybe back in 23 or maybe three weeks ago idk, but the no screenshot policy is definitely a Niji PR move. And as we know and see, Niji is baaad at PR crisis control. The sudden surge of merch drops and fire sale of old merch confirms my thesis that Niji is 100% in crisis mode. I think the Nijisanji AR Live concert highlights the biggest issues the company has: poor PR management and an absolute need to control everything with regards to their livers. They really seem to pay zero attentions to the feedback they get from fans- and I mean none at all. They are actively antagonizing their fanbase in order to control the way their livers are presented in social media. For an entertainment company they really do not know how to manage public perception of them and their talents, which is basically a recipe for disaster. They appear to only care about increasing profits for their investors and nothing else. In the short term, that will make them a lot of money, but in the long run they will be shedding fans and customers like a dandruff from a redditors scalp.

    By stifling it, it pronounces even more than the company doesnt have a good marketing team and theyre trying to conceal... something...?
    Then, the company releases those approved screenshots, making it completely inorganic. Fans posting their favorite moments of a show makes me want to experience it for myself so I can make MY favorite moments. Anycolor's tactic made it feel too... processed. Can't remember which year it was but there was a Fes that had its free portion run a little long on day 1 (about 40-45 mins), which made for a nice surprise.
      Regarding the concert that was made free, technically it was only day 1 of their Summer live. They switched streaming platforms to Z-aN (it wasn't clear what was happening to SPWN at that time). Z-aN were having sever issues on the day, so they delayed the event until it had to be postponed. I will give them this year at most. I am at the post end phase of "I just don't care about you" thinking Mode with this company, not even the name is worth the mention for me right now... It's just disappointing to no end.
    There is a saying: In Rome, do as romans do. What this people are doing is applying the concept in the worst way possible. They want to capture international influence without even trying to demonstrate any interest whatsoever in their culture nor customs, but them they want all gaijins to adapt to them, or basically they WILL bully you and freak you up to no end calling you "White people" as a derrogative with clear ill and hurtful usage.

    They might've just switched Selen's model for Petra's, hence the elongated penguin neck and never thought about recallibrate the models before publishing it.

    None of this would be happening to Niji if Tazumi finished college.

    What makes things worse is that Gura doesn't even stream that often or regularly anymore. She'll stream a few times (sometimes just once), and then disappears for a while. Gura does this and she still gets more live viewers than Niji's *WHOLE SHOW*. Maybe she got so many viewers *BECAUSE* she tends to disappear for a while. Either way, Gura has amazing talent.

    Thank you for the Vtuber news!
    I remember reading some Niji document where they stated their EN branch was created to grow into the global market (or something along those lines). However, it seems they don't understand the global audiences they're supposed to be trying to appeal to, as sharing screenshots of your "favorite concert moments" is a natural way for fans to connect with an event. It makes me wonder if the actual heads of their organization are dinosaurs and Riku is just a puppet figure used to present a "young" face to the public.
