Prayer to St. Dwynwen

St. Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, often referred to as the "Welsh Valentine." She lived during the 5th century and is said to be the daughter of King Brychan Brycheiniog. Dwynwen dedicated her life to God and founded a convent on the island of Llanddwyn off the coast of Anglesey, Wales.
The most well-known aspect of St. Dwynwen's story is her own tragic love affair. According to legend, she fell in love with a young man named Maelon, but her father opposed the match. In her despair, Dwynwen prayed for divine intervention. In response, an angel appeared and granted her three wishes.
Her first wish was that Maelon be released from his love for her. The second wish was for the happiness and well-being of all lovers. Her final wish was to never marry, dedicating herself to a life of service to God.
St. Dwynwen's feast day, celebrated on January 25th, is considered the Welsh equivalent of Valentine's Day. On this day, people in Wales exchange cards and gifts to express their love. The remains of her church can still be seen on Llanddwyn Island, making it a popular pilgrimage site.
