The audience was told to be quite because the show was being recorded. People were more considerate of the bands and listen to the music. Not one person in the audience was tranced by a Cell Phone. They were paying attention because Purple was playing stuff that was different. They also performed Speed King and Black Night at this performance. Blackmore the Guitarist is one of the top performers in Rock History. All of those guys were the best at what they did.

Color television was mainstreamed in the USA in the mid 60s with most television shows moving to color by ‘68.
Very often, segments that might be used for advertising, documentaries, or for broad distribution were filmed on cellulose giving full cinematic quality. Videotape varied widely in quality by region and technology, and was less crisp in resolution. Often musical groups from symphony to pop sensations like ABBA would film so that the hi resolution could be used in marketing.

    Great reaction.
Being moved by this video, is a certainty.
How, can one not be moved?
One of the greatest performances ever, IMHO.
I'm struck, by the organ, as I play keys, but the group's cohesiveness, all around, is superb.
As for coloration, you can find films from the late 1930's, such as "The Wizard Of Oz", which highlights the use of color, in a transition from sepia tone, partway through the film. Some old films have been tinted, or colorized, and the process has been further advanced, using A.I. techniques, in recent years.
Color television signals first were made, during the Eisenhower administration.
    He left office, in 1961.
This live performance, was filmed a decade, or so, later.
You can see, the size of the cameras being rolled around.
I love, how the singer plays to the camera, with a jump, at one point.
However, the message, these dudes brought, was to reflect on the insanity, that the world had become, and sound a warning, and a lament.
Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes!

  • @modejar2022

Hello, and thanks for the video. You have listened to one of the most important Hard rRck bands, when this kind of music didn't exist yet. They are the inventors of this kind of music, and as you have seen they were real maestros on each instrument, maybe the best keyboadist (pianoplayer) of rock music, his name is Jon Lord, plus the best drummer, named Ian Paice, put also the best guitar player, his name is Ritchie Blackmore, a better bass player, named Roger Glover, and the unique voice of Ian Gillan, a singer out of this world, they were the best of the best.
I mean, this is not a band of rascals who had met in high school or lived in the same neighborhood, no, they are perfectionist, they went together one by one, and finally found the 5 awesome musicians you have seen. They weren't friends before the band, they looked for each other to form a real musical innovation rock band, and this was what they created together, real musicians, no catchy music, but glorious music.
I highly recommend you to listen to HIGHWAY STAR, a song included in their live album MADE IN JAPAN, maybe the best rock live album of all times, where you can enjoy the purple power. Also a classic tune called SMOKE ON THE WATER, is on that album too, very dramatic and maybe the best version of this great song.
You have to listen to the entire live album, but start with the beginning.
After that, we can talk about more purple music.
Congratulations and welcome to the Purple World
    FOREVER DEEP PURPLE!!!

I laughed when you said, that you were told that colored electronics weren't invented yet. It was a few years earlier in the mid 60's. That being said. DEEP PURPLE recorded the Album "MACHINE HEAD", in 1972. Which was one of those albums🎵 that every song is worthy of your attention. 🎶 Starting with "HIGHWAY STAR"..

The power and emotion in this song are because it is an anti-war song that Ian Gillan (singer) was passionate about. It really feels like he is the voice of the crying children caught in a war.
Musically the band are fans of jazz and classical, so use the freedom of jazz with the dynamic range of classical to create some of the most iconic songs of an era.
Songs like this pack emotion and often make people wonder why they are crying.
You will get the same effect from certain songs by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

Having been to see Deep purple in 1969 at the Royal Albert Hall this song was in their set and according to Ian Gillans interpretation on that night, the song was about a sad guy who was a loser and came third in a duel in the end blew his mind out. For some reason Wikipedia assumes it's a Anti war song.
