  • Let’s brighten up the day with this DIY rainbow instrument and a joyful jingle to play for all! The panpipes are a woodwind instrument that has brought happiness all around, even back to ancient greek when they were first invented. These instruments are usually made from bamboo or reeds, but today you can make your own using materials you already have at home. We make ours into a vibrant rainbow assortment, but feel free to create your own patterns with any colours you like. Then, simply blow into the pipes to hear a merry melody!
    ⭕MATERIALS:
    - 5 sheets of paper in rainbow colours (you can also use any other colours you have)
    - Scissors
    - Pen
    - Glue
    - Cardstock
    ⭕INSTRUCTIONS:
    (1) First, take your coloured paper and cut them into rectangles. Make sure every piece is bigger than the last until you have all different sizes.
(1a) Remember to keep hold of the offcuts.
    (2) Use the pen to help roll the paper around it. Keep in mind that tubes with smaller diameters make louder sounds.
    (3) Secure the paper together using glue.
    (4) Once dry, slide the paper off of the pen. Now you have your first pipe.
    (5) Repeat this process with the remaining coloured paper until you have 7 pipes in different sizes.
    (6) Leaving your pipes to one side, take each colour of offcut paper and make a circle that is big enough to fit over the end of each pipe.
(6a) A helpful tip is to draw around the top of the pen lid, so it is a perfect size.
    (7) Glue each circle to the bottom of the correct colour.
    (8) Next, cut a strip of cardstock big enough to fit nicely around all seven pipes.
    (9) Arrange the pipes into size order and glue a strip of card around all of the pipes.
    (10) Once dried, you now have a bright and cheerful instrument. Gently blow into the open end of each pipe to play!
