  • In the ongoing conversations about well-known ministers being exposed for hidden sins, we need to hear a pastor’s perspective concerning what happens behind the scenes. What are the questions and considerations that good pastors look at when overseeing a fallen leader? We’ll talk about gifts versus character, illegal versus immoral issues, challenges in reporting sexual misconduct, how to inform congregations, and much more.

As a woman who graduated from a seminary and had to listen to “never be alone with a woman”, I believe that if someone will cheat on their wives they will find a way to cheat. If a church leader, or wife, would stop tolerating the sexual sins rather than just getting away from them or firing them and, therefore, letting them move on to another church and let them perpetuate the sin, it would save the other women being exposed to their behavior. I speak from being the victim of a predator who was and is still a pastor.

Once again, thank you Wanda and Bobby, for encouraging the body of Christ and for keeping us grounded in navigating this topic. This whole issue of sexual sin in the church has caused me to do much reflecting, as I had an affair with a pastor many years ago. It has brought up some painful memories of my own moral failure, because I duped myself into believing that this was okay for us because his wife was not meeting his needs! I was very vulnerable at the time, and he took advantage of that. I'm not making excuses - I knew it was wrong and thankfully God had redeemed me! Thank you, Wanda, for your faithfulness!

Something you are not addressing, pedophilia is a crime that should be reported to authorities and dealt with legally. And when convicted, that person has to register for life whereever they live. They can be somewhat restored, but this basically keeps them permanently out of ministry leadership or the 5 fold ministry. I doubt you can legally get a license to preach in any state in the US if you are a registered pedophile. There are reasons for that. The recidivism rate for pedophilia is extremely high. In other words, it rarely happens only once. Note: I have a legal background and have been in church leadership. You have to be very careful in how you deal with this. You have to be legal. And you give the appearance of evil if you fail to follow the law. That is never good for the church body.

Using Robert Morris as the example for my question about repentance. I thought repentance was confessing your sins to God and ask forgiveness to the party that was hurt, and if they want me to stay in their life and allow me to regain their trust, great. My question is if repentance is real would one need to lie or obscure the facts? Would repentance also cancel any consequences? I have been reading my Bible trying to find if on has consequences after they repent.
My other question is does asking for forgiveness automatically require reconciliation? What I see in Matt is no, however with talking with other Christians the answer is yes?

Robert Morris shared from the platform about sexual sin he was in when he was growing up. In a church. I’m not sure when he received the most wonderful God he never knew (A great teaching he has about Holy Spirit) who was Holy Spirit but we need Him to help us be delivered. And many churches don’t want the Holy Spirit in fullness. I’m not sure what kind of church he grew up in and I’m not putting this terrible sin in a place of unimportance as I was in a similar position as a child and I know the damage it does to a girls self image. The church should be more intentional on teaching about the difference between love and lust. Anyhow Robert was open about the stronghold of sexual sin and his complete deliverance of that as a pastor when he was free. The sin of lust and pornography etc are very strong bondages. And it seems Robert was trapped as a young man and apparently didn’t have the strength to fight against it. It’s so very sad a young girl was violated and abused. Robert repented for that but apparently he didn’t expose the whole truth about her age. She’s 51 now and a grandmother so her life has had some degree of restoration. It also came up in the news that Robert had a relationship with president Trump. This may have a lot to do with this coming up at this time. The enemy loves to tear down what Jesus has built. I pray she gets healed and is able to forgive. If she deserves a financial settlement so be it. It won’t heal anything. And I especially pray for Robert and his family. He is a great teacher. And has helped build a wonderful church. May they all be blessed as a church who will stay and continue to grow together. May Robert be blessed as well for laying down his life for the church in the times he served as pastor and especially now as he left for the good of the church. May God use him to help churches or people with this sexual issue. He would be a good candidate for the ministry of deliverance and redemption. We need him.

Bobby Alger, "...and I think that sometimes when these stories break, we get about 7-10% of what...people are dealing with." THEN WHY COMMENT? Maybe the guy was molested himself as a child...acted it out...shocked himself, repented and was delivered of it. Can you imagine the ridicule CNN would heap on the mention of 'deliverance'? So, I guess if that is your source, you'll never hear that detail.
In Matthew, how we deal with this sort of thing in restoring someone, is set forth. If they DO NOT repent withing the Christian context of things, then they are turned over to God and He turns them over to satan...the secular judicial system is part of that. If the restoration did happen for this man and thus, God didn't turn him over to satan, it is absolutely wrong for Christians to be calling for someone to be thrown into the hands of satan. That is vengeance. If you wish vengeance on others rather than their restoration, you are risking calling justice, vengeance and violence upon your head. Think about God rescinding all the mercy He has given you.
This is why I do not jump on the bandwagon to 'get Hillary or Biden or SOros, etc., etc'. Because, until they finally die, they have the right in God's economy to repent and turn to God. I don't care if they go to Gitmo and are hanged, because frankly, killing someone won't improve my life...I just want them to stop doing wrong, so they don't hinder others from living healthy lives. Same with those who have offended me, slandered me, or stolen money. I just want my name cleared, the offensiveness to end and my money (back with interest). I'll ignore them and hope they stop treating others badly, too.
