I’ve heard countless renditions of this timelessly beautiful song but I believe this is the first operatic approach. And it works brilliantly. I’ve always loved this song for giving you this feeling of ultimate relief of all sorrow and anxiety. Ellen adds a wonderful element. That of conquest. It’s not that your struggles have eventually come to an end, you actively ended them on a high note. This element comes across both through the power of Ellen’s voice and by means of the silent dignity she displays by standing upright thus unbroken against the vastness of the sea. What a masterfully crafted video! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Her voice! I am enchanted, transfixed, spellbound. (Not at a loss for words, alas.) Searching for more songs sung by Ellen Williams. Her voice as a deepness, slightly darker quality to it; it is heavier, having more substance to it than some sopranos I’ve heard. And now I learn she is Welsh-but of course. It all makes sense now.
