The Sophie scarves are so extremely popular here in Norway! I see them everywhere and worn by so many people. I’ll usually see a couple each day when it’s not so cold you need a big scarf around your neck, and I’ve also seen a few people knitting them on public transport. They are really an epidemic here. Now my grandmother even has one as my sister made her one for her birthday in a beautiful blue colour ❤

Found your podcast through the Australian Knitters United group. I love the name!! I do a podcast with my sister (we are based in Melbourne). Looking forward to following your episodes and definitely keen to see some warmer weather projects. It was 38 in Melbourne today. I also want to disperse my gift knitting throughout the year and not have a big rush at the end of the year.

I’ve just subscribed and can’t wait to watch your videos - thank you so much for the lovely comment and for popping over from the FB group (isn’t it a wonderful group?!). 38 degrees is really a bit much I reckon! I hope you were able to find a nice pocket of air conditioning to hide out in 😁

Thanks for your BWM yarn recommendation. We are visiting Bendigo next month, and I have an Antler cardigan in my future so I now know what to get! I've knit a few Antler hats and love the pattern.
Love your first video! I can highly recommend Winwick Mum's Sockalong website and pattern. She describes the sock maths that enables you to calculate how to fit your socks to whatever feet you are knitting for. I've knit nearly 60 pairs and most are Winwick Mum patterns

Hello! I’ve just had a look at the Winwick Mum’s Sockalong website and am blown away. I wish I had found this website when I was trying to figure out my first sock! Thank you for sharing the great recommendation 🙌🏻 I hope the BWM Luxury 10 ply works for you as well as it did for me in the antler cardigan (I think you will love the finished object - I certainly did!). Thanks again for popping by to watch 😊 PS - so envious that you’ll be able to visit BWM in person! How fun!

Congrats on your new podcasting adventure! I really enjoyed it. We don't have enough Aussie knitting channels specifically for us. I watch a lot of knitting channels, as an avid knitter, insomniac plus I'm a knitting teacher at our local wool shop, I have to be mindful for older customers not to use the word yarn instead of wool, and once I mistakenly used the the word 'fingering' instead of 4ply, (too many American podcasts that morning), that did not go down well. I think that the sophie scarf hasn't been such a hit here is that it's very small and it's tight around the neck, which I don't think us Aussies like. I knitted one for daughter in-law, who thought that I had run out of wool, I unravelled it and made it longer for her by adding another colour like a stripe effect & it was looser around her neck. I knitted the Musselburgh hat for oldest grandie girl using all the little bit of leftover sock yarns, that was a good way to use up odds & ends

Thank you so much for the kind comment! I saw your comment today just before I started work and have been itching to reply all day. How great that you teach at your local wool shop - it sounds like you would be a wonderful resource for your students! I learned how to knit from CZcams and after seeing your comment I think I’ve adopted the American terminology without entirely realising it was American! I did notice that some stores here tend to use 4 ply instead of fingering (for example) and just thought the terms were used interchangeably based on preference. I’m glad to have learned something new and look forward to doing some research on the Aussie terms 😉 I think you’re totally on the money about the Sophie scarf - the comment about running out of yarn would have been hilarious 😂 thanks again and hope to chat again soon!

I find it interesting how you talk about wearing wool knits in the air conditioned buildings. 😂 I can see why knitting with wool is not as popular in Australia given the weather.

I agree, knitting with small circulars is hard on the hands. Consider using a long cable for magic loop, knitting 2 at a time toe up socks! I first followed a book by Antje Gillingham, but there are many videos now for the technique. I knit mitts two at a time too.
