Thanks for your introduction to Andrei Rublev. I am about to watch the film again and this helps. I hope to watch more of your Tarkovsky videos as I wish to know more about his films.

Thanks so much for commenting. I have so much more to learn about this film and all of Tarkovsky’s filmography and am very much enjoying the journey. Let me know you think of this film. It is very complex and intense viewing.

@@CinemaDaveMedia Prodigies of art, craft, violence and cruelty combine in this rich film and are encapsulated in characters from Andre Rublev to the leader of the Tartars. The scenes that contain the great bell also contain gibbets, the inspired artisan, Bariska, is also a young man of violence. Artists and craftsmen are intercepted and blinded by the soldiers of a jealous boyar.
I was, to an extent, overwhelmed by Andrei Rublev on this viewing and need further viewings to get across the details but I think that Tarkovsky and his film rank high among the artists and wonders he documents in Andre Rublev.

I just finished the film last night. I am watching Tarkovsky’s films in chronological order. So, Solaris is next. I can already tell I’m watching the work of one the cinema’s finest filmmakers.
This film is so densely layered, rich in theme, political relevance, philosophy and humanity. It truly taps into the power of creativity and its effect on the artist and the world at large. I completely agree that this film will stay with me forever. The visuals and the performances are so arresting. The lead actor Anatoly Solonitsyn was so absorbing and compelling and so subtly.
Seeing a film like this reinvigorated my inspiration as a filmmaker and made me so glad to know that in 2022, it wasn’t the superhero movie of the week, but the leisurely paced 3 hour somber Russian epic that reminded me what the art of cinema can achieve.
I can’t wait to keep going down the rabbit hole. I own all 7 films! Thanks for the video!

Great thoughts and commentary on the film. I can watch Tarkovsky films over and over and still get new meaning which is what makes the films so amazing in my humble opinion. I completely agree that these films are so inspirational and I often gravitate towards more serious dramas over a superhero movie of the week as you mentioned.

Yes! And speaking of rabbit holes, I’ll certainly enjoy catching up on your thoughts and analysis videos. I have a monster sized Criterion Blu-Ray Collection as well. Also many other boutique labels, though Criterion has always been my favorite.

@@Jadewizard Thanks. I'm definitely considering doing more of these types of videos. Many times, I will watch a film and take lengthy notes to gather my thoughts and any new observations/feelings about each film. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

I think it would be interesting to mention that in Suzdal, Russia there is a monument dedicated to Andrei Tarkovsky and this film Andrei Rublev. I really enjoyed this video a lot, Andrei Rublev is my favorite film of all time so any video about the film always makes it’s way to my heart.

Ivan's Childhood it's a great choice to continue. I suggest ending with The Sacrifice. I am very excited and interested in this series of videos that you are making. I would love to see your first reactions to other filmmakers.

Thanks for the confirmation on watch order. It’s challenging finding a film to follow the masterpiece that is Andrei Rublev. Have you seen Nostalghia and The Steamroller and the Violin? I will save The Sacrifice as the last film which I have heard is also very good.

@@CinemaDaveMedia Yes, i've seen his entire filmography. The Steamroller and the Violin it's incluided in the Criterion edition of Andrei Rublev, it's one of my favorite releasses of Criterion.

I’m planning a wrap up video too where I name my top 3 though I know favorites can be tough because they do change over time. Thanks again for your thoughts and recommendations.

The 205 min "Passions of Andrei Rublev" version makes a lot more sense then the shorter version... But IT HITS HARD!!! Maybe this film is too horrible and heavy to make sense? I think I am going to have nightmares about smiling Tartars invading this evening... The politics depicted in "The Passion Of Andrei Rublev" look SO MUCH like 2021 USA!
The 183 min version is very pretty, and mysterious... It's much easier to take.
I find Both versions mysterious, as I don't understand Tarkovsky's obsession with WEEDY MARSHES. Tarkovsky is such a handsome, glamours character, but most of his films have large sections featuring random, gross, un-picturesque, muddy, Russian swamps. That is Except "The Sacrifice" which is my favorite Tarkovsky film. IMHO

I fell asleep through the first half in the theater. Didn't know what i was getting into but after rewatching the film at home it is one of my favorites. The cowriter of the film was the most religious who continues to make similar films to this day.

It's understandable... He looks like the actor Anatoly Solonitsyn who plays Anrdrei Rublev! Strange... IMHO
