If you’re an iMac user, you’ll obviously love it. Apple makes a great desktop computer. However, unless you’re upgrading from an older Intel iMac or buying your first one, I don’t see any need to buy it. I have the M1 iMac released in 2021 and this is basically the same machine. The upgrades are not overly compelling. I’m hoping to get at least another five years out of the M1.
i have loved the iMac since I had one at my college back in the late 90's - I had a G3 "pizza box", a 24" first - gen aluminum, a couple of 21" newer generations, but i've not had one of these yet. I really really want one of these. With at least 16gigs of ram....maybe 24....
I'm so glad you got the iMac with M3 chip because I plan to get that sometime after the holidays. I already have the 2020 MacBook Air and the Asus CX5601 with 16" screen and it is now upgraded to the Chromebook Plus because it has the required elements to become one. I watched the event and was really impressed with the iMac and what it had to offer as well as a reasonable price. Thank you for sharing.
24" is good for a computer monitor. I have a 48" LG 4K Smart TV with Harmon Kardan Speakers which are really great but I don't have room for it and so the iMac will have to do. I love that color and all the color coordinated extras. I'll have to get one of those bedside tv trays with the legs that slide under the bed so it will fit. The sound on it is really great. Can't wait for the review as this is the new m3 chip. Going from M1 to M3 should be quite a difference. Thank you for sharing!
I have enough laptops between the 2020 MacBook Air which I bought after your review. I've been considering whether or not I wanted the M3 chip but I don't want anymore laptops since I'm in the house anyway. But the specs on the base without the touch ID is fine for me as it's going to stay in my room. It's so light. The CX5601 weighs almost 5 lbs. and so glad the 2020 m1 air is lighter and this machine is even lighter than that, how wonderful!
Great video! Beautiful device, but I just wish they had upped the nits brightness for this one. I have the M1 version and it’s noticeably dimmer when I go to it from my iPhone Pro Max or MacBook Pro.
Re the weight of the package: my VESA-mount Studio Display weighs less than half that of the two boxes it shipped in. The display is 5.5kg, the packaging 6.2 kg. Impressively robust construction of the boxes, as you've seen.
they need to put the ports to the side of the actual stand so that the monitor’s slim design isn’t compromised. the stand can even be a little thicker to accommodate an HDMI which would be the thickest port, and at the same time, serve as stronger support since it would be a little thicker. i want the purple imac so bad 😭
I am honestly wondering if its worth it to get an iMac to use as a computer to write/work on your desk but ALSO to use it as an additional display (another screen) whenever I need to do some more intensive work -- meaning I will use my macbook pro M2 Pro and the iMac as another screen. I'm using quite an old iMac at this point (late 2015). It's getting old but does the job for me. Though an upgrade would be nice but I don't have the budget for that at the moment. So my 2015 will have to do me for now. Though it's not officially supported by the latest macOS anymore I have oclp to run macOS Sonoma

whenever I see these comments about people saying no it’s just the M3 the same thing. Sure it is. I mean you can’t expect something to be radically changed every time. It’s a great all in one for a lot of people. I think people really keep forgetting that Apple is basically a phone company now in the sense of their phones. The Mac only makes up 9% of their sales. Services make up 3 times that. That said it’s a great monitor/computer for a lot of people very few people need the power that most of the techs that watch a lot of these. think people need to understand that or at least think about it and not understand it lol.
I think you'd like to know that when my 8 year old son saw what I was watching he asked "is that chris evans?" so hope that boosts your confidence today haha.
I’ll wait for M4 or M5 chips before upgrading a thing at this point. Apple will keep this stuff consistent design wise for several more years at least.

Once you get to that level of performance and price, many people prefer to be able to switch out either the computer itself or the display without changing the whole thing, which is why they referred to the studio as “modular”. (This, by the way, upset many tech people who view the word “modular” as referring to being able to switch out components within the computer such as RAM and storage, which has actually gotten more difficult since the 27” iMac, not less.)

I still think Apple should have made the handles on the iMac box double into exclusive Apple Watch bands...especially bc of their dedication to recycling & the environment. Could you benchmark it against and M1 max if possible? I know there for two different types of people but I’m intrigued on how good of a deal the iMac is because of how good they’re saying M3 is compared to M1.
To be fair the M1 could do everything that heavy video and music producers needed to do. Besides the Ram differences between models, and other than gaming, basically any Apple silicon chip would work fine for anyone at this point.

Studio Display plus M2 Pro Mac Mini is the new 27 iMac. And Studio display plus Studio Max or Ultra is the 27 iMac pro. I think too many people complained about spending all that money on the iMac and being forced to throw out a 5k monitor when they upgraded. They are just going with a separate monitor for now going forward.
I’m finally looking to replace my 27” 2015 Intel 3.3gHz 😢 it is getting too sluggish and the OS hit Apple’s support wall with Big Sur (ver 11.7.10). 2023 TurboTax won’t even run on it 😮
I've always thought it'd be nice if they made the foot a bit taller and put all the ports there. Then they'd not have to put the ethernet way down on the brick and they could have the headphone jack not be all off on its own along the sides.
Design-wise I still prefer my old 2017 27inch iMac. And also that thing has user replaceable parts inside. But sure enough one day I'll have to upgrade to one of these and I really hope that apple will make a 27" like they used to.
Just read from the Verge that they got confirmation from Apple themselves that said "Apple has no plans to make a 27in iMac with Apple Silicon" Feel the pain as I have, then suck it up and get ready for the 24 in like I am lol.

@@junaidsiddiquemusicEh, I mean, iMac was always considered to be the home device and I think they concluded that they've reached the right fit and finish for it the way it is. 24in is not too big or small, its right in between the 21 and 27 that were the traditional ones and from what I've looked into (CZcams reviewers), the M1 chip blows out all the Intel machines ( even the iMac Pro on some levels )and the M3 supposedly being faster than that, I don't know what else can be done with it honestly. Update the camera and screen maybe but those aren't "must haves" really. I think if there is anything neglected, it would be the Mac Pro... then again, how much more can you do to a machine that already can do everything without breaking a sweat.
@@PromotingTheBeat Well we use a regular 2017 5K iMac with the i7 for music production and a iMac Pro with Xeon for recording, mixing & mastering. Our primary DAWs are Cubase and Nuendo. Once we tried the M1 iMac but honestly it didn't impressed us much back then there were no M1 Pro, Max etc. we only had the M1 chip, we were plagued with incompatibility issues maybe now the things have changed we haven't tried it since a year. But in my home I have a M2 Mac Mini, I absolutely love that thing it's amazing how that costs a fraction of what my 16inch MacBook Pro with i9 costed me back in 2019 yet it outperforms that in benchmarking. Although in some areas especially if you consider legacy software the new SoC still falls short sometimes and I don't think Rosetta 2 is going to be there for long. And you're right about the Mac Pro I really don't know why it exist anymore lol the Mac Studio can be configured with the exact same configuration.

I hate my iMac. M1 24” 1 terabyte 16 ram. 3 logic boards later, 7 months of repair, apple says I will have a new one. I sent my IMac to them. 3 months later I still don’t have a computer 🤬🤬🤬

Get a studio display and a Mac Mini. The 27" is not coming out. Apple has confirmed the only iMac is 24".

The white bezels are weird
Most living spaces have brighter, almost white walls. It makes the screen disappear into the wall. I dig it at least, its like my content is floating.
